6. Milo

Milo

Rowan’s body was so different from any I’d seen before. Was his dick just always… out? That didn’t seem very safe. Were all humans that way? I was starting to understand why they made their own coverings.

It wasn’t just his dick that was different. He had a light dusting of hair over his broad chest and slightly rounded stomach that led down to the base of his dick in a stripe. There was also some on his forearms and legs. Did it feel like the hair on his head or the hair on his face?

I tried to pull my hands out of his hold so I could find out, but he held me tighter.

“No, Milo. I can see you thinking about it. No.”

“Why?” I asked, my eyes returning to his dick. It was getting bigger. That at least I could relate to and understand. My dick was safely tucked into my body, but when I was aroused it would get bigger and harder and come out of my slit. Was he aroused because of me?

My stomach fluttered at the thought.

“Because,” he answered. Rowan still wouldn’t let my hands go, so I stepped in closer. His throat bobbed as he swallowed and pushed himself further against the wall at his back.

Heated water trickled over my skin, making me shiver. Showers were so cool.

I’d explore it more later and find out how it worked. For now, I was far more interested in the man in front of me.

“You want to mate with me,” I stated, and he suddenly started coughing.

My brows pinched together in concern.

I stepped in even closer until his wet cock pressed against my lower abdomen.

Rowan groaned. His pupils expanded as he pulled his bottom lip between his teeth.

He was so different from anyone I’d known before.

Fascinating. And attractive. His body was big and strong.

His scent… I leaned in close so I could inhale it properly.

Before, he’d smelled kind of like the ocean, like his boat, and fish, and the smoke of the fire.

Now, he smelled like warm skin and his own unique scent, deep and intoxicating.

I took in as much of it as I could, deciding I very much liked the scent of him.

That fluttering in my stomach grew stronger, and the tingling between my legs as my slit started to slicken told me that, selkie or not, I very much wanted to mate with him too.

I held his gaze as I slowly pulled my wrists from his hold. His fingers twitched around them, but this time, he let me. I dared to press even closer to him, until his chest was against mine and I could feel the rapid beating of his heart calling to my own.

He didn’t say anything else. Neither did I.

There was silence except for the running water in the low-lit room.

Humans had strange lights I’d only seen from a distance before.

They were wonderful, letting the sun follow them wherever they went.

It was enough for me to make out the deep flush over his cheeks, which probably extended down further, but I didn’t want to pull my eyes away from his to check.

I smiled at him as my fingertips ghosted over his hips.

There were rumors, legends, of divine bonds.

Ones that the goddess herself orchestrated and approved of.

My grandmother Et’el had that with her mate Ana’vel.

That’s how they'd had my father. The goddess had blessed them and made it possible. There were still those who didn’t believe them and speculated that Ana’vel had conceived her pup another way, but I believed them.

What if the goddess had led me to Rowan last night for him to be far more than my savior?

Maybe that’s why I didn’t feel the pull to return to the colony. I was supposed to be here, with him.

I raised up onto my toes to get closer to Rowan’s lips, and his thick eyebrows lowered as if they were trying to get to me while the rest of his face remained infuriatingly just out of reach.

The forgotten bottle under my arm slipped and fell to the floor with a crash before I could stop it. Rowan jolted, his hands grabbing my shoulders as he spun us, pushing me against the wall before he turned and marched off, yanking a blanket from where it hung on the wall on his way.

I frowned. Why did he keep trying to get away from me? He was clearly interested, and he hadn’t denied wanting to mate with me. Were there some other human customs I was unaware of when it came to this?

I sighed and followed him. Disappointment pulled a pout to my lips when I found him covering his lovely body with more of those dreaded clothes. I’d barely even got the chance to explore his dick yet.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him.

He passed me again, squeezing against the entrance to the room as much as possible so he wouldn’t have to touch me. He wouldn’t even look at me.

“Rowan.” I stomped my foot when he still wouldn’t pay attention to me.

He marched over to a storage area full of folded blankets, pulling one out and tossing it over my head. “Dry yourself off or you’ll catch a cold.”

Catch a cold? What did that even mean?

I frowned as I pulled the blanket off. This one wasn’t nearly as soft as the last one he’d given me.

“I’m going out,” he declared.

“Out where? I’ll come.”

“No,” he answered, a touch too quickly. “You need to stay here. No one else can see you. It’s very important that they don’t see you. Okay?”

I frowned, not liking that but not able to argue it. While my goddess had been fine with me connecting with this particular human, that didn’t mean all were safe. “Why do you have to go?”

“I have… human stuff to do.”

“Like what?”

“Just stuff, Milo. I’ll be back soon.” He walked into the shower room and the sound of the running water stopped. He still couldn’t look at me when he returned. “When I get back… we can be careful getting you back to my boat, then I’ll take you home, or wherever else you want to go.”

“Go?” I frowned, my chest aching suddenly. “But I just got here.”

His mouth opened and closed, as if he were trying to speak but couldn’t find the words. “Just… stay here. I won’t be long.” He grabbed another fabric thing from a shelf and pulled it over his head.

Then he left with no further explanation.

What the fuck?

I pouted, even though he wasn’t here to see it, and stomped my foot again in annoyance. When we were mates, he would definitely need to find a way to take me with him when he went to do his “human stuff.”

As I dropped the scratchy blanket to the floor and made my way over to the fire to dry off from the shower, I wondered who the goddess would choose to be the next leader after my grandmother, now that I was going to be staying here.
