39. Epilogue Volt #6

Volt had seen Ben slip someone a present like that a few times—a t-shirt for Evan with another animal pun, a sparkly they/them pin for Justice, and a bizarre cooking device for Quincy that had them jumping up and down—but never with any fanfare or gift wrap.

He always denied it was a gift, just “something he found.” Ben was definitely a fascinating creature.

Quincy presented them with dessert, a blackberry mascarpone tart with a rosemary shortbread crust that they were trying out at the cafe. It looked tantalizing, but Ember’s moans were Volt’s true dessert.

The evening slipped away in conversation, and it was much later when they finally left, snuggling in the car as they sped through the night. Ember was tired, so they were exchanging lazy kisses without expecting it to lead to anything more.

Volt carried Ember inside, his head tilted so that Ember could nuzzle and drop little kisses against his neck. Volt’s cock was hard, rubbing against all of that soft flesh and feeling each of Ember’s soft exhalations against his skin… but when was he not hard around his baby girl?

For a moment, Volt imagined laying Ember out on the bed, peeling off their clothes one by one, and licking each inch of their body until they were begging and panting…

but then Ember dropped their head to his shoulder with an exhausted sigh.

“Soooo glad I never have to walk, Daddy. I’m barely awake. ”

Volt snorted at the gentle teasing, even though he loved carrying Ember as much as they loved being carried. Still, he made his erection go down. There would be plenty more opportunities to enjoy his creampuff when they weren’t so tired.

And this time together was special, too.

He stripped a very snuggly and sleepy Ember out of their clothes and into cozy pajamas, got their toothbrush ready, and gave them a few minutes in the bathroom.

When they came out, he tucked them into bed and slid in beside them, amused when their little snores started almost as soon as they curled into his arms.

With Ember sleeping, Volt reached out to Angel to see how the night was going.

Angel?

There was no response after four whole seconds, so he sent a burst of curious static. Then another one with an edge of annoyance.

Why wasn’t Angel answering?

Volt did a sweep of the cameras, checking each room and hallway with barely a thought. He knew Angel’s shape from every angle, even compared to some of the sexbots with similar physiques.

The lounge had three waiting clients attended by the concierge bot and five available sexbots milling around, in addition to the six bots that were in use with customers upstairs.

The basement and storage areas were empty. The elevator held one relaxed-looking customer who was straightening her skirt as she descended.

Angel wasn’t anywhere.

With a bolt of alarm, Volt checked Magnolia’s suite. Had something gone wrong?

But the redlight camera showed her sleeping peacefully, the nursebot near her bedside. In the log of her vital signs, everything looked fine.

Angel? Volt sent again.

No response.

Volt kept still, not wanting to disrupt Ember’s sleep, but his fans were whirring, and his pistons were primed for movements that he wasn’t going to make. Worst-case scenarios kept flashing through his mind, though he told himself that there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation.

He went back through the camera logs. Angel in the lounge, talking with customers.

Angel and one of the bots restocking liquor and snacks for the bar.

Angel back in the lounge, expertly managing a giggling group of college kids who’d all come in together and pairing them up with sexbots until the last ones were upstairs.

Angel staring off into space between conversations with customers.

And then… Angel walking past the elevators, into the staff only hallway, past the kitchen, and out the back door.

Volt followed him with the external cameras as far as he could see. Angel turned left down the service alley. He turned right when he reached the street. At the corner, he turned left again, taking him out of the camera’s range.

His steps were unhurried. His face looked calm. Maybe a little vacant. He could have stepped out to buy something for the bar from the liquor store a few blocks away, which they had to do from time to time.

Except that he’d been gone for 2 hours and 17 minutes and hadn’t come back.

Now Volt was really panicking.

Like a revelation, he remembered that years ago, he and Angel had both turned on the setting that would let the other one ping their location. He never used it, since it was so easy to just send a text and Angel could just send him a location pin, but he found it now.

Angel’s last known location was Prism. 2 hours and 19 minutes ago.

Volt gently settled Ember onto the mattress, sliding out from beneath them. He tiptoed across the room and closed the door with a nearly silent click.

And then he raced outside to run down the darkened streets, only realizing some unknown number of blocks later who he should have called first.

Oliver! I need your help!

The End

Angel’s story, Hooker, will be coming soon.
