Epilogue

Five months later
“You’re moving in together? Stop it!” Becca said over breakfast at the Salty Spoon. A loaded stack of pancakes sat high in front of her, complete with whipped cream and strawberries.
“Yes! I love this!” Jodie cheered. “I knew it was going to happen soon. You’re barely home as it is.”
My cheeks flushed. It’s true. I’ve been sleeping at Bear’s place for weeks now, so much so that I moved my cat Binx in. I couldn’t help it. I loved being with him. Bear was home.
Plus, his cottage was right next to the ocean and the views were gorgeous. What wasn’t to love?
“I figured you two sleuths would know as soon as I moved Binx there.”
“You moved Binx there? Wait, when did I miss this important information?” Becca said, a mouthful of cream.
I laughed and tossed a napkin at her head. “I told you the day of. Remember I said he kept meowing at Bear’s?”
“Oh, that’s right. Shit. How did I forget?” Becca looked perplexed, but then a shit-eating grin crossed her face. She knew exactly where her attention has been lately, her new boyfriend.
“I’m sure Ben has nothing to do with it.” I laughed and Jodie joined in.
“So when’s the official move in date?” Jodie asked, before taking a sip of coffee.
“Tomorrow.” I laughed. “We waste no time. Besides, I’m halfway moved in as it is.”
“That’s true, you are. Oh! By the way, I have a date tonight.” Jodie announced.
Both Becca and I turn our heads towards her. “You do?” I asked. “Details girl!”
Jodie smirked. “I met him while walking my dog on the boardwalk last week. His name is Nate, and we’re going out to dinner.”
“Aw, yay! I love this. We’re all finding our matches,” Becca gushed.
“Ah ha! I knew you loved him!” I pointed at Becca. She’s denied her feelings were anything but sexual when it came to Ben, but Jodie and I knew better.
“Okay fine, fine, I’ll confess. I love Ben and we’re an official couple now.”
“Ah!” I squealed with excitement, and Jodie joined in.
“We knew it!” Jodie chimed, and we all dissolved into laughter.
Oh, how I loved my girls. And they loved Bear, something very important to me.
I still remember the day I introduced him to everyone, including my parents.
He was the best gentleman a girl could ask for.
And when he took me to meet his parents, I could see exactly how they ended up with such a great son. Amazing people.
“Imagine if we planned a triple wedding,” Becca squeaked, and I shot her a crazy look.
“Wedding? Is that my baby sister talking about weddings before me?”
“Crazy thought though.”
We all laughed and chatted through breakfast, imaging what a triple wedding could be like. And when the meal ended and I bid my friends farewell, I set off to find my man, waiting for me on the boardwalk.
I spotted him leaning against the railing, his taut body already turning me on. We had sex just that morning and I wanted him already all over again.
“Hey there sweetheart,” Bear grinned widely as I approached. He opened his arms and wrapped his big, burly body around mine. I loved him. So, so much. And I couldn’t wait to tell him later over dinner.
“Hi. I missed you.”
“I missed you, too, always.”
“I thought we could walk along the boardwalk for a while? Then head over to my cottage to grab the last of my things?”
“Sounds perfect.” Bear took me by the hand and we set off.
Later that night, over a candlelit dinner, we said I love you for the first time.
I couldn’t be happier.
Bear was my one and only, my true love, my forever bodyguard.
