Chapter 6

Knox

“Imiss you…”

Sena’s soft voice drifts through my mind and I nearly fucking turn around and head straight back to her.

Fuck. This is going to be harder than I thought. We all agreed to take our time. To get our heads around that fact that she’s not who we thought she was.

I mean, on the one hand, we’re fucking over the moon that she’s not the twisted little psycho the old Sena was.

Sena was a bitch before. Like a fucking horror on steroids. The fucking twisted tricks and messed up games she played with us were torture, especially because we all still felt protective over her.

It was nothing like how we are since she woke up with amnesia in the academy. Seeing her and how stunning she was… is. How she wore every expression on her face, whether it be anger, frustration, or pain.

True pain. Like she had been through some shit.

It didn’t make sense. The Sena we knew was looked after like a damn princess. One that got whatever the hell she wanted.

I kept having nightmares that the old Sena would remember, and she’d turn into her once more.

And I wasn’t the only one.

I should have known something was off from how much she changed. But none of us could have guessed that she switched bodies.

A body that was apparently hers all along. Another thing none of us can get our heads around.

She should have told us. Trusted us.

We’d all come a long way. At least that’s what I thought. I thought we were starting to trust one another. I thought she knew how we felt about her. How fucking wrapped around her little finger we all are.

But I guess not. Not if she was able to keep something this big from us.

And then to find out she’s also a royal.

Fuck. None of us deserve her, not really. But we’re all too selfish and too fucking possessive and goddamn psychotic to ever give her up.

Theon and Malakai glare at me when I get back to our shitty dorm room.

Technically I wasn’t supposed to go near Sena yet.

But I fucking missed talking to her. I needed to see her.

And when I found out they were doing training—something I guess the four of us should be doing—I knew I needed to make sure all the fucking insects knew their damn place.

“Start going to all her classes,” I tell them. “I’ve watched so many fucking idiots look at her like she’s their next plaything. And that’s without the other dozen all staring at her like they fucking stand a chance.”

Three heads whip in my direction.

“What the fuck?” Malakai grits out followed by a glare from Theon as Cyrus’ shadows start to seep out around him and his eyes go black.

I guess some of the insects are getting nightmares tonight.

“We should take turns following her,” I tell them.

Malakai frowns, “Why the fuck would we do that?”

“I just found our mate walking out of the showers without any clothes on,” I tell him. That towel barely covered anything. “And there was a group of dicks waiting for her outside.”

Shadows snap out of Malakai, Theon and Cyrus.

“It seems prank week is in full swing.” I smirk at the glint of rage in their eyes. My smile widens when their glare finds me, and they realize that I saw her.

The glint of rage morphs to a gleam of green jealousy in their eyes nearly overshadowing the rage completely.

Theon clenches his jaw. “So that’s how you lost your tee?”

I shrug. “It was a sacrifice I was willing to make. It was either that or kill an entire dorm of insects because they saw our mate naked.”

“You should have ended them,” Malakai says, the rage in his eyes still out for blood.

“We said we’d play nice,” Cyrus reminds us of as he tries to reel in his shadows.

“For now,” he reminds me, and I nod, agreeing.

We’ll play nice for now. But as soon as we get a whiff of any harm coming to Sena here, all deals are off.

We may be pissed at our mate for keeping this from us. But no one gets to fuck her over or even lay a finger on her.

They’re dead if they do.

I try to reel back my growing anger and glare at the white walls in this fucking box of a room as my thoughts turn back to this fucked up mess we’re in.

“So much for Levington promising us the crystal should stop us from going mad,” I say out loud. “All I feel like doing is losing it and ending every single idiot here.”

“That’s because we have a mate. She is more of an anchor to us now,” Cyrus reminds us. “Not a fucking crystal. We probably need to spend time with her.”

“She doesn’t trust us,” Malakai huffs. “She lied and kept the switch from us. What else has she been keeping from us?”

“We’re not perfect either,” Theon says being the voice of reason for once. “If she had told us about the switch, what would you have done?” he asks.

“I don’t know,” Malakai admits. He drags a hand down his face. “She switched bodies. How…” He shakes his head. “I can’t wrap my head around it.”

“She switched back,” Cyrus says, glaring at Malakai. “It was her body all along. A Variant switched her to protect her.”

Silence shutters through the room as each of them think about what he said.

I guess he’s right. But she still should have talked to us. Maybe not in the beginning when we all thought she was playing another sick and twisted game, but after, when we all started opening up to one another.

I look at them and find them all lost in their own heads and decide to yank them all out of it.

“So, it’s decided? We take turns following her. Go to all her classes and make sure these dickheads don’t go near her?”

The three of them glare at me but I can see each of them agree with me.

Good.

Cyrus gets up and heads for the door.

“Where are you off to?” I ask him.

“Off to create some nightmares,” he gives me a vicious smirk that quickly mirrors my own.

I guess it’s about time they learn who they’re messing with.

Standing outside the male dorms under the cover of night, I keep myself hidden in the shadows and watch on as my mate and her roommates sneak inside carrying bags of what smell like fish. Rotten fish.

I smirk. That’s my girl.

Thanks to our help, the girls are winning this little prank war by a mile. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve made sure to take out any obstacles in their way so they can have their fun.

I don’t give a shit about the prank war; I’m just using it as an excuse to see Sena and mess with the insects.

Tonight, they shouldn’t have any problem taking their time to find good hiding places with the idiots knocked out and tied up out of the way.

About an hour ago, I caught them trying to slip snakes and spiders into the girl’s room.

They’re lucky they’re not fucking dead. But I doubt they’ll be waking up anytime soon.

They shouldn’t be going anywhere near my mate’s room, and they definitely shouldn’t be trying to fuck with her.

We’re the only ones that get to do that.

With the little bugs neutered, I glance around and search for any other ways I can mess with them to get my daily dose of chaos.

My dark wish is granted when a dozen Shadows arrive.

Lucky me, looks like I missed a few.

I move through the shadows and, in a blink, I’m in front of them. Before they realize what hit them, I bulldoze them, knocking them out and watching as they go down in minutes.

Fucking weaklings. How they ever won the War Games is beyond me.

Although I haven’t seen any of the males that usually show their faces in the War Camps—something I should definitely look into. Later.

Maybe I can up the ante on their little fish prank and add some rotten eggs to it while I’m at it.

Me and the boys fucking hate that dorm room anyway. And since we’ll be stalking Sena, we won’t be staying in it for very long.
