Chapter 30 #3

His fantom mouth bit my thigh, jolting me, his real arms holding me in like we were only hugging, as his tongue sliced through my pussy.

A cry bubbled up from my throat, his hand covering my mouth, blocking the sound as his shadow dove in deeper, taking my body prisoner.

My muscles shook as I felt both his mouth and fingers working me, bliss rolling my eyes back.

I couldn’t even strike back and level the playing field.

He was in full control, my body needing him so badly that I stopped caring who heard or noticed. Most felt our energy anyway.

“Warwick,” my shadow whispered hoarsely. “Fuck me right here.”

His grip on me became almost painful, though it only made me wetter.

“Don’t move,” he ordered in my ear, his voice thick and husky.

My muscles locked down, trying not to naturally respond as I felt his cock teasing my entrance, my teeth biting into his neck to keep from crying out.

Like a wild cat yowling, the noise echoed through the car. Panic and alarm lurched me up to my feet, slicing the link and the moment between Warwick and me like ice. Spinning around, my attention went toward the sound.

Hanna thrashed against her bindings, her teeth bared, eyes narrowed, like she wanted to attack and kill.

“Shit!” Scorpion scrambled back in, his arms low as he approached her like a wild animal. “Hanna.”

“Fuck you! Let me go!” she seethed, her canine teeth appearing longer than normal human teeth, her pupils dilated.

“Calm down, little viper. We’re not going to hurt you.”

She flailed wildly, hissing and growling every time Scorpion took a step.

The true horror at what Istvan had done to Hanna punched me right in the gut. They all had been around, watching this happen to her. I hadn’t. I knew it only got worse when she went back to Markos. He put her right back on the pills again.

It reminded me so much of Joska and Samu. Seeing them turn feral. Most likely, they weren’t even alive anymore. Their brains pretty much melted.

Would Hanna have the same outcome?

She bucked and squirmed, a strange sound puffing from her.

“Fuck.” Scorpion rubbed his forehead, shooting a glare back at me. “You two really couldn’t keep it in your imaginary pants for a little longer.”

“What?” My head jerked, my cheeks blushing.

Scorpion’s eyes narrowed, his expression saying, don’t act dumb.

“We all can fucking feel you two,” Scorpion exclaimed. “Me especially . . . but guess what? So do animals. They can pick up smells and energy better. Her instincts are responding, but the human part of her is confused and scared.”

Heat flooded my cheeks as I looked around at everyone, then back to Hanna.

“That’s a mating sound.” Scorpion pinched his nose.

“What? How do you know that?” I balked.

“Because . . .” Scorpion suddenly was the one to look embarrassed. “I read up on wildcats.” He lifted one shoulder. “I wanted to be able to pick up on things. Understand.”

My lids fluttered with emotion, knowing what that meant.

Scorpion wasn’t going to do that unless he cared.

A whole fucking lot. He wanted to be there for her, help, and recognize all the changes she might go through.

To be by her side every step, no matter if she could be saved or not.

He wouldn’t give up on her. I realized how much I missed, but possibly because of my absence, those bonds forged stronger.

“Scorp.”

He waved me off, focusing solely on Hanna. She panted and puffed, her wild eyes watching his every move. Sweat trickled down her face, her skin pale.

“Untie me now,” she demanded.

“I can’t.” Scorpion crouched in front of her, sorrow in his tone. “Hanna . . .”

She flinched at her name, her nose flaring. I could see her brain calculating and taking in her surroundings.

“They hurt,” she pleaded, nodding at her arms. “Please. I promise I won’t do anything.

” Her gaze met Scorpion’s. “You said you cared about me. Would never hurt me. I hurt everywhere. You don’t understand.

I feel like I’m going crazy. Please, Scorpion.

I need more pills. Please. Just a little. I just need to take the edge off.”

Scorpion’s jaw ticked, his lids closing briefly. “You know I can’t, little viper.”

Like he flipped a switch, she lunged forward, her tied arms halting her only inches from Scorpion, her jaw snapping and hissing.

“Fuck you! I hate you!” She kicked and screamed. “I want you dead! I cannot wait to sink my knife into your gut! Rip you apart with my teeth!”

Scorpion stood up. His expression didn’t change, though I could sense the hypothetical knife drive through his heart.

“You think I cared about you? You are pathetic!” She wailed. “A disgusting, foul fae! Give me the fucking pills!”

“You know she doesn’t mean it.” My shadow was next to his.

His gaze still on her, he tipped his head so slightly in agreement, not looking convinced at all.

“She’s coming down from a high. She doesn’t realize what she’s saying.”

“I know.”

I wanted nothing more than to hug him and tell him it would all be okay, but I didn’t know if it was. I had no idea if Hanna was ever going to be all right. My heart ached for him. For Hanna. Losing someone you love was beyond horrendous, but losing your mate . . .

That’s how empires fell.

A squeal pitched through the space, and the train jolted to a screeching stop, lunging all of us forward.

There was a beat when we all looked at each other. All seemed to understand. Our time on the train, the moment of calm we had to regroup . . .

Just came to an end.
