Remington

We pull up to the house, drunk on power and high from the adrenaline rush and lines of cocaine we snorted on the way home.

We got away with it…again. But this time, Talia isn’t here to bask in our glory, even though she was the one who orchestrated the entire thing before disappearing with her latest conquest.

I hate that motherfucker—have ever since he came around in high school.

I never trusted him, and I always wondered if they had something going on.

Now I’m convinced that they did, and he’s more involved in this than I originally knew.

There is still a mysterious third bloodline.

Given his father is the president of the university, I wouldn’t be surprised if he knows everything.

If he so much as touches Talia and I find out about it, he’s a dead man. I will literally melt his face off.

Didi watches, curled up next to Tommy on one side of the van, as we laugh and howl the entire way home like a pack of wolves.

She clung to Tommy, crawling onto his lap instead of mine since he was the savior tonight.

Apparently, he’s getting all her attention, which doesn’t surprise me.

Everything between them was unfinished, and it was never my intention to take her away from him.

I just want the piece of her that belongs to me—the dark part.

We pile out of the van, and Tommy struts onto the front yard, raises his hands in the air and turns in circles. I’ve never seen him this amped up.

“I’m a goddamn legend,” he screams into the oblivion.

He shouts so loud he upsets the birds, causing the leaves to shift in the trees above us as they all fly out.

He’s a maniac is what he is, and when he’s coked up, he reminds me of a gorilla.

“Did you see that, firefly? I saved everyone.” He’s so jacked up, it’s ridiculous, and when he gets this way, there is no reasoning with him.

I pull Didi into my arms while he has his little episode.

She’s still drunk and stoned, watching Tommy like she’s never seen him before as he spins in circles.

I pull Didi closer, wrapping my arms around her like a shell.

If Didi and Tommy screwed earlier like I suspect they did, then I’ll be getting my turn.

I’m sure as hell not letting her go with him alone tonight.

Didi pops her hand over her mouth and giggles at him…little does she know this is how he acts when he’s out of his mind.

“You’re insane, man,” I mutter, and he pauses his spinning and stares at us. His eyes are crazed as he watches me run my hand up Didi’s belly. She freezes, her breath lengthening as I run my hand up her shirt and cup the underside of her breast.

He doesn’t like me touching her. He plays it off like he’s with Talia and that’s all he needs, but deep down, I know it’s slowly killing him. But she’s not his anymore; she’s mine now, and I like to remind him about that every chance I get.

I’m primed and ready for what’s coming next, and so is he. The tension between the three of us is at its tipping point.

Bax is always good at sensing when he’s not wanted, so he pushes by and heads toward the back of the house. “Y’all are crazy. I’m going to light a fire, smoke a joint, and hit that sack. Later, dudes.”

He vanishes to the back of the house, his footsteps echoing in the eerie silence.

We are alone now, staring at each other. The crisp air causes our breath to spiral in front of us. Didi shifts in my arms, and I’m aware of every breath as my hand is pressed into her chest. Her heart rate is elevated.

I keep my eyes on Tommy, taunting him with her. My hand runs over her chest, and her nipples sharpen beneath her bra, my dick hardens, and I’d bet if I reached down, her panties would be soaked.

“You like that, little lamb?” I whisper, and my energy shifts around us. Tommy steps closer as I pull her shirt up so he can get a glimpse. Tommy moves his hand to his dick and stares at her like a piece of meat. “Or do you prefer him?”

The push and pull between us has been going on since Didi arrived in town months ago, building up to this one moment.

It amuses me how scared she is at the sight of Tommy’s pulsing cock as he pulls it out like an animal.

She shivers beneath me, trembling. “I want to go inside. It’s getting late, and it’s cold out here.”

My body is weightless. I’ve been holding back with her for days because I didn’t think she was ready. But I’m a Vital, and darkness runs in my blood—it’s part of my legacy. And it’s time she knew it.

I gather her wig in my hand and pull it off, running my fingers through her soft hair, gently moving it over her shoulder.

“You don’t get a say in anything right now, since you’re not supposed to have a pulse.

” Her eyes flicker up to me. “You were supposed to die, Didi, and since you didn’t, you belong to us now, which means you have to obey us. ”

She stiffens, a tiny squeak escaping as I force her to kneel. She glares at me and presses her lips together. Her eyes are glassy from the weed and booze she soaked up earlier.

Tommy’s pupils are dilated, and he shamelessly walks over to her with his dick in his hand. Pure testosterone radiates from both of us. “What are you thinking, brother?” Tommy asks me. Didi’s on her knees, like the little sacrifice she is, staring up at us, while we both loom over her.

I run my hand along my beard. “I’m thinking our girl’s been a bit of a tease and it’s time for her to show us her loyalty.” Her pale eyes lock onto mine. “Isn’t that right, little lamb?”

A sudden bang hits from the house capturing our attention, and I can sense a shadow watching from the window. Lucy disappears into the shadows of the house. I’m unsure how much more she can endure before madness overcomes her—being stuck in this house for eternity takes its toll on people.

Our focus snaps back to the pretty girl kneeling before us.

I brush my hand along her pale cheek, and she closes her eyes.

I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet that Tommy and I are dangerous.

We’re both going to fuck her tonight, likely together, because neither of us will back down.

We both want to claim her. We both desire her more than we can breathe.

Tommy curls his fingers and looks up at me. “I’m fucking her first. We need to finish what we started, don’t we, firefly?”

His well-intended shot hits my chest like fire. He might have taken her virginity, but I’m going to claim her soul. I roll my shoulders and crank my neck. “I have a better idea. Wanna play a game, little lamb?”

As much as it pains me, I pull her to her feet. She stands between the two of us, shaking like Bambi. Tommy runs his hand along his mouth, salivating like a rabid dog.

Her mouth parts open as she darts her gaze between us. “What kind of game?” Her innocence takes over as she succumbs to what will happen.

“Do you still have your knife?” I ask her.

“Remy,” she breathes, her body trembling. I don’t think she realizes how turned on I get whenever she’s scared. “You said you weren’t going to hurt me.”

I wipe my dark hair from my eyes. “I lied, baby.”

Her eyes dart to Tommy, desperate for help. “Tommy?”

He gives her a vicious smile and shrugs. “Sorry, firefly, can’t help you on this one.”

She swallows hard, and goosebumps spread across every inch of her flesh.

I glance at Tommy. “What do you say, brother, let’s race for old times’ sake?

The first one to catch her owns her body and soul.

” It’s time to put an end to this feud. The laws of the Codex are clear: only one of us gets to sacrifice her, and before the sacrifice happens, we are to claim her.

Tommy didn’t follow the rules the first time.

He grins at me, his muscles flexed, and he rolls his shoulders, pulling his hands through his wavy hair. “Bring it on, Vital. Challenge accepted.”

My lips peel back knowing push comes to shove, I can beat him. The raw energy radiating from the two of us causes confusion to flow over Didi’s features and she takes a step back. Time’s up.

“Better run, little lamb… Talia’s not here to protect you.”
