CHAPTER 32 #2

An audible sarcastic huff sounded through my mind, as if the voice was saying ‘See?’ without speaking. I ignored the noise.

“Any moment we get to practice, I want all of us working on it. We’re going to put a hold on all lessons, except for training,” He winked at me, and I rolled my eyes, knowing what he meant by training, but a shiver of excitement ran through me.

“Avyn, you’ll focus on honing your powers; Ulric and I will work on breaking each other’s incantations.

” He turned towards the Professor, “Thank you for finding this information so quickly. If you discover anything else, send for one of us right away.”

The Professor was already nose-deep in another book and waved his hand, as if to say ‘Got it,’ and we all left him to continue his studies.

We gathered in the hallway just outside of the Professor’s office, not wanting to disturb him with any more of our conversations, not that it would actually disturb him. I had learned that when the Professor was researching, nothing could break his attention when he was nose-deep in a book.

“Oh, Avyn,” Ulric chimed, “You should bring Maya to your advanced powers training, might be good to have a mortal's view on it.”

This time, I shoved my elbow into his side.

“Oof, that hurt more than Zen’s!” He said while rubbing his side.

“Good! She is off limits!” I thought for a moment, “But you might be right, having her there is not the worst idea.” I liked the idea of having her near me.

A boyish smile spread across his lips, and I didn’t even bother to reply.

“I’m going to find Maya and fill her in. She must be bored out of her mind alone in my room.”

“I can keep her comp…” I snapped my head towards him, elbow ready, and he stopped mid-sentence, threw his hands up, and backed away.

Zendryk stood there with his hand covering his mouth, obviously trying to hide a smile, as I turned and walked away, making for my room.

My room was completely spotless when I walked in, and Maya was munching on snacks she must have summoned for.

Through a mouthful of a cookie, she looked at me and said, “I told them you were hungry and needed snacks.”

She was in a pair of my pajamas, and a towel was wrapped around her hair as she sat cross-legged on the bed with the tray of snacks in front of her.

I was glad she was comfortable enough to relax; she deserved it more than anyone.

I hopped up onto the bed with her, crossed my legs, and popped a small cube of cheese into my mouth before filling her in on the events of the morning.

“So, you fucked him again?” She said, her mouth full of cheese.

“MAYA! You really need to get your priorities straight. I just told you about water creatures, incantations, hiding Soulless, training that you are going to attend, and all you can focus on is the part about me having sex.”

“Was it good?” She popped another cube of cheese into her mouth.

“MAYA!!!” I tossed a grape at her face, and it bounced off her nose. “If you must know, it was fantastic.”

We both laughed and finished the tray of snacks before changing into different clothes.

I contemplated for a good fifteen minutes whether to let Maya borrow one of my training outfits, knowing it was form-fitting, but since I didn’t know what was in store for us, I let her.

Ulric had better keep his hands to himself.

It was still storming outside, so we opted to practice in the training room by the stairs. Maya nudged me as we walked in and whispered, “smells like sex, doesn’t it?”

I pushed her shoulder. I didn’t miss the smile that Ulric and Zen had plastered on their faces. “You told him?!”

“You told her!” He said, pointing in Maya’s direction.

I guess we were both cursed with sharing too many details.

“It wouldn’t have mattered if he told me or not; my senses are heightened anyway, because, you know, the whole wolf thing, and this place reeks of sex.” Ulric pinched his nose and fanned it.

My eyes widened as his words sank in. He chuckled, already walking away, leaving me frozen in a haze of shock and flustered embarrassment.

“Oh, Sweetheart,” Zen said as he put his arm around my waist, the motion feeling odd since we were around other people, “Don’t be embarrassed, we were just doing what is natural.”

I was too stunned to move at the thought of Ulric smelling the room after we just fucked on the mat… right there. Maya broke the silence and walked over to Ulric.

“So you can change into a wolf?” Her hands were clasped behind her back as she swayed from side to side.

He raised an eyebrow as he answered, “Of course. We are called Worvane. Half-immortal, half wolf. Would you like to see?”

Her eyes widened with excitement, “Yes!”

He pulled his shirt over his head, assuming so he didn’t ruin another one, or to show off his sculpted chest, “Don’t get too scared.”

My eyes drifted upwards, fucking Ulric. Maya put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot as if to say you’re wasting time, and his only response was the smile he flashed at her, canines already showing before he rolled his neck and arched his back, stretching.

He blinked once, then again, and his eyes changed to the bright red that met me that night after hitting my head, when everything I knew about this world changed.

His hair grew longer, and two pointed ears sprouted from the top of his head as black fur appeared on his arms and chest. It happened so quickly; one moment he was standing there, and the next he flailed backward, lurched forward, and landed on all four paws.

I stared at Maya, waiting for her reaction, unsure of what to expect.

She stepped forward towards Ulric in his wolf form, stretched her hand out, and gently patted his head.

“Such a good boy.” Mockery graced her tone, and Ulric responded with a low growl, while Zen and I burst out laughing.

“I see why you chose her as your friend.” He said to me.

I was beaming with pride at my sarcastic friend. Ulric turned around and shifted back into his human form, and I immediately covered my mouth. Ulric was standing there… in front of us… naked. I had forgotten that part. I looked at Maya, and she was drinking him in….all of him.

“Ulric!” I screamed at him.

“What? You think the clothes magically appear and disappear?” He stretched his arms up behind his head, stretching every muscle in his body.

I looked at the ground where the shredded remnants of his pants lay scattered; he knew what the fuck he was doing. He walked over to the training mat and pulled a fresh pair of pants out from underneath it.

Maya did not look away from him, watching his every move. “You must go through a lot of clothes.”
