Chapter 17

QUINN

It’s the evening before St. Patrick’s Day.

I’m filled with both dread and determination, as the weather reports threaten rain and there’s still so much work to do.

Despite all of the challenges and obstacles thrown our way, Kane and I are motivated to make this St. Patrick’s Day festival the best ever.

My heart is full of gratitude for the many people who have rallied around us in support over the last week.

The mayor cleared the way for all of the permits to be issued, Emma is working diligently to file expedited paperwork for the historical designation of both pubs, and investigations are underway to root out whether anyone else had a hand in Darren Kennedy’s schemes.

As I’m double-checking my notes for tomorrow, Maeve comes out from the kitchen.

“I just got off the phone with Deputy Finn. Darren Kennedy has been arrested for destruction of property and bribery of public officials. He’s currently cooling his heels in the county lockup and is facing significant jail time. ”

I breathe a sigh of relief. “That’s great news. Now we don’t have to worry about him lurking around or sabotaging anything during the festival.”

“Agreed.”

She wraps her arms around me, enveloping me in a hug.

“What’s that for?”

“Just to let you know I’m so proud of you. And Connor and your parents would be equally proud.”

“Thank you, Maeve. I couldn’t have done any of this without you.”

“Of course you could, honey. There are plenty of Irish eyes smiling down on you, giving you encouragement and support. Now, I have a confession to make.”

“A confession? What in the world?”

“You know that letter Connor left for me when he died? In it, he revealed to me his motivation for leaving you the pub and not selling out to Kane. It was his dream that you return to Pelican Point and fall in love with Kane. He wanted you two together.”

I look up toward heaven. “Oh, Gramps. Who knew you were such a romantic? And guess what? Your dream came true.”
