Chapter 14

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

SKEETER

“Don’t let him suck you back in,” Diesel warned as I watched Marco leave, frustration rolling through me. As usual, the second he started talking, I was sucked into his bullshit. “I know you don’t like talking about it, but you know you can with me.”

“There’s nothing to say,” I growled, making him roll his eyes.

“Skeet, it’s me. I can tell he still gets to you. Talk to me.”

“Drop it. I fucking mean it. Don’t you have other shit to do?”

“I can do two things at once,” he said dryly, texting on his phone.

“You’re seriously going to help the Devils?”

He looked up at me, his eyes dark. “I’m helping Rory. I’m very aware that you’ve wiped your hands of her and left her to rot, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to abandon her too.”

“She’s not Sasha, D.”

“No, she’s not. She’s Rory, and she’s her own person. I don’t want her because she shares similar qualities to Sasha,” he grunted, his phone buzzing and making him look down at it, his face falling slightly.

“What’s wrong?”

“You’re being dragged into this shit whether you like it or not,” he answered, turning his phone to show me. It was a text from BG, the witness’ name pissing me off in more ways than one.

Fucking Mandy, the priest’s cunt of a daughter.

“Are you serious? That bitch ratted?” I hissed, clenching my fists. “Motherfucker.”

“He’s sent through the official report. Hang on,” he mumbled, scanning the document before sighing.

“It claims she was walking past the house when she heard a commotion and investigated. Apparently, she saw Rory shoot Max through the window, then abandon the gun in the yard when she fled. Mandy picked it up and took it to the cops instead of calling them because there were other people around, and she got scared of being caught snooping on potential gang business.”

“So Aurora did something stupid and got caught. Big surprise.”

“This is bullshit,” Diesel scoffed. “Rory never threw the gun outside, Marco disposed of it himself. Mandy also knows the Devils, so why didn’t she name them? I don’t think she was even there.”

“All I’m hearing is Marco set Rory up, fed information to Mandy, and got Rory dealt with now that they’re sick of her,” I snorted, but that wasn’t exactly Marco’s way of handling things with girls. He could be cruel, but there was no need to get her locked up to get her away from him.

It honestly didn’t make sense.

Diesel gave me a knowing look before running his eyes over the statement again.

“There was also no way that bitch was wandering around the Heights, and Marco didn’t feed the information to her.

The cops don’t care how likely it is, as long as they get to drag crew drama into the spotlight and pin it on someone.

Rory’s pretty hot news right now, so if they can charge her for something like this, it could be a big promotion for someone and it makes the department look good for reporters. ”

“Who fucking saw it then if Marco didn’t rat or if Mandy wasn’t there? Someone knew what happened and told Mandy about it. Would any of the other Devils rat her out?”

“They don’t seem to give a shit about her hanging around. Not like our guys. She respects them and they respect her,” he shrugged.

“How long was she spending time with them for them to have that kind of relationship?”

“Not long. The Devils don’t really have a problem with women hanging around Hunter, that’s all. Hunter’s been working day and night to try and get her out, so Marco’s stepped up to take his place to run things. Nothing is being neglected, so the Devils don’t care.”

My eyes narrowed as I studied him. “How do you know all of this?”

“Because Hunter keeps me in the loop. I asked him about his crew causing issues like the Psychos did, and he said it’s not an issue and explained the situation to me.

Some of the guys got along well with her the few times they were around her.

I know Faris is polite to her,” he replied, and I rolled my eyes.

Faris was like a dog that just learned what his dick could do. He just wanted to fuck her too.

“You’d better tell Marco you found the witness then,” I grumbled, but he shook his head.

“Firstly, we need to figure out how to handle this with our guys.”

I frowned, not exactly following. “This has nothing to do with our guys.”

“You might not think so, but that girl Matteo’s been fucking is a rat.

What else does she know? What happens when he kicks her to the curb and she throws a rich bitch tantrum and spills a bunch of shit to the cops about us?

This issue isn’t about Rory, it’s about having a rat among us.

We have to let Matteo know and find out what he’s been telling her. ”

It made sense, but I groaned at knowing this would turn into a whole thing about Rory. The guys would think I’d changed my mind about her.

“This is going to be a shitshow,” I grumbled, grabbing my keys. “Let’s get it out of the way. So much for a chilled night off.”

We headed out to the McLaren and I drove while Diesel called Brick to let him know we were on the way for a meeting.

The guys were all milling around the bar when I arrived, seeming curious about the reason for the meeting.

“What’s this about?” Samuel asked as we approached, my eyes already on Matteo.

“We have a problem. It involves your girl,” I said without hesitation, making him scoff.

“You’ll do anything to get rid of her, won’t you? We had to put up with Donovan for you, so you can just—”

“Aurora wasn’t a rat,” I said calmly. “Whether she betrayed us or not has nothing to do with this conversation. It’s come to light that the witness that made a statement to the cops about Rory killing her dad was Mandy.

This isn’t me being pissed at her for getting Rory arrested, this is about the fact Mandy ratted, and who knows what else she could say against us if she wanted to? ”

He seemed surprised, which made me feel better because it meant he wasn’t in on it. Dealing with a betrayal within the crew was a lot messier than the shit with Rory. It was meetings, votes, and an execution.

“Mandy went to the cops?” he asked with disbelief, and Diesel sighed.

“She might not know a lot, but she’s a rat.

Both her and Claire know things they shouldn’t, and it makes me wonder if they were spying on us from the beginning.

There’s no proof of that, but I saw the statement myself.

Mandy ratted, so we have to handle it. The Devils are looking for the witness, so we can either let them handle it, or we have to.

Regardless, cutting Mandy off could potentially lead to her spilling shit about us to the cops as payback.

Like how Claire got embarrassed that day here and accused me of sexual assault.

Girls like that are dangerous,” he reminded them, and thankfully, most of the guys were nodding their heads in agreement.

“He’s right. She’s a liability,” Samuel said carefully, glancing at Matteo. “You had no idea it was her?”

“No. She made an eye witness statement? What the fuck was she even doing in the Heights? Was she alone? She hates the Heights,” Matteo said dryly, and I shrugged.

“D, show them the statement.”

Matteo’s back straightened, his eyes narrowing on Diesel. “Why the fuck do you have the statement?”

“I owed Rivera a favor. They want the witness, so I got it for them,” Diesel said with ease.

“You’re helping them get Donovan out?” Matteo snapped, but I put my hand up to silence him.

“If Hunter was happy with calling it even on Diesel for this information, it was worth it. The question is, do we let them handle it and take out Mandy, or do we handle it internally?” I asked, murmurs going around the room as they discussed it.

“I say let them deal with the mess,” Brick offered, leaning back against the bar.

“Mandy’s a blue blood academy kid and her father’s the local priest. It could be quite messy covering up her murder.

I’d love to not have to deal with it. What’s the worst thing that could happen?

They get busted and they’re dealt with too? ”

That seemed to have more of the guys on board with the plan, and Matteo waved an annoyed hand at me.

“Fine. Let Rivera take out the girl. It’s not like she was more than pussy to me anyway. See, Maddox? This is how you handle a problematic woman. None of that bullshit you pulled with Donovan.”

“Like I said, Aurora wasn’t a rat, and she has nothing to do with this conversation,” I said sharply, sick of arguing about it.

“We’re in agreement to let the Devils handle Mandy then?

” Nods went around the room, and relief hit me.

At least no one was going to fight me on it.

“Good. We’ll hand the information over to Hunter on the way home and see what comes of it.

Matteo, don’t let Mandy know we’re onto her.

If she texts, reply to her. Any change in patterns will make her suspicious or make you look like a suspect to the cops if it goes to shit. ”

“Sure,” he muttered, helping himself to the bar.

Maybe I was wrong and he had gotten feelings for her? I could sympathize slightly if he had, but at the same time, if he wasn’t going to fight for her, then that was his problem.

Diesel came with me to the Devils’ warehouse, and I knew a lot of the guys weren’t happy to see me when I was let inside by Bobby.

“Boss is upstairs,” he grunted, my eyes landing on Tyler at the bar as he drank with Faris. Of course, that little shit was here.

He saw me as we headed upstairs, and I could hear Faris telling him to stay out of it. He didn’t need to know murder plans.

Hunter eyed me with irritation when I opened the door to the office and let myself in. It pissed me off when he spotted Diesel and seemed to relax again. How often were they hanging out these days?

“Where’s your dog?” I asked dryly, closing the door behind us.

“If you mean Marco, he’s at Wet Dreams,” he answered, looking at Diesel. “You got something for me?”
