Chapter 17 #2
Relief hit him and he physically relaxed. “Good. It’s hard to know who knows what with everyone split up right now. You guys are cool with it?”
“We’d rather you than Rivera and Ortega,” I scoffed, cracking open my can for a drink. “We knew you’d come back around after seeing you with her on Christmas. Is it a relationship, or just seeing where it takes you?”
“I don’t really know,” he said with a frown. “I asked her about us going on that date when she gets out, and we talk all the time now. We’re together, right?”
I grinned, patting him on the shoulder. “Welcome to the club.”
“I don’t want to fuck it up with her, but it’s really hard not to compare things to when I was with Sasha,” he admitted, looking embarrassed about it.
“You only have those experiences, so it’s expected to compare situations, just don’t compare the girls,” I shrugged.
“I feel guilty for wanting her after promising Sasha she was it for me. I love Sasha with my whole heart, so is letting Rory in stupid? What if I can’t—” He looked like he was going to give himself a fucking panic attack, so I cut him off.
“You won’t love Rory the same, and you’re not supposed to. She understands, D. She lost Slash and still loves us too. Take it slow with her and build a relationship over time. Communicate with her.”
“I think Sasha would really like her,” he whispered, staring at the beer in his hand. “I’ve told Sasha a lot about her, and I never know if it’s hurting her to hear it.”
“Honestly? I think she’d be relieved to see you happy. I know we’ve never really been close, you always kept to yourself, but I’ve never seen you so relaxed and happy like I have since Rory showed up,” I offered, earning a small smile in return.
“It’s hard to think Rory’s officially older than Sasha. I don’t like to think about it too much though because then I’m reminded she’s only eighteen and I feel like a creep.”
“You act like you’re forty, but you’re not.”
“I might as well be.”
I rolled my eyes, nudging him. “You’re fine, old man.”
He shot me a dirty look, the stairs creaking and making us glance back to find Lukas walking down them, rubbing his eyes.
“What are you doing?” he mumbled, noticing Diesel and cringing. “Oh. Hey.”
“Hey. I’m leaving in a minute, I won’t ruin date night. I realized I’ve been bad at checking in with you guys, that’s all,” he stated, and Lukas moved closer to stand beside me.
“I didn’t want to wake you,” I murmured, tucking him under my arm. The sex must have really relaxed him since he didn’t care about nuzzling into me in front of Diesel.
“That’s okay. Did Rory call anyone tonight? I didn’t hear from her,” he said with concern in his tone, and Diesel sighed.
“No. Rivera said they didn’t either. I asked him earlier when she didn’t call me. If something was wrong, the prison would’ve called him and Josie. Hopefully, she’s just having too much fun.”
“Ty’s going down to visit tomorrow with Hunter and Marco, so they’ll be able to fill us in on it when they get back,” Lukas pointed out. “We’re going down on Thursday. Feel free to come with us, if you want. Just call them to let them know.”
“Skeet won’t let me this week. We have loads of shit to do, and I’m not supposed to let it interfere with work,” he grumbled, sipping his beer.
“I’ll beat him up again, if you want?” I offered, both of them giving me a dirty look. “What?”
“No more fighting. We don’t need that shit,” Diesel grunted, checking his phone. “I should head home. I’ll call you if I hear anything about Rory. Sorry to ruin your night.”
“Nothing could ruin our night, trust me,” I grinned, Lukas’ face flaming and making Diesel raise an eyebrow.
“On that note, I’m going. Thanks for the beer.”
“Don’t be a stranger,” I replied, giving him a nod. “We’re here if you need us.”
He gave me a grateful smile before leaving, and Lukas turned in my arms to playfully bite my pec.
“Coming back to bed now?”
“Yeah. You’re in a good mood,” I said with a smirk, grabbing a handful of his ass.
“I’m too tired to fuck again, but we’re doing that in the morning,” he chuckled, tugging me towards the stairs. “C’mon, I can’t sleep without you.”
I felt a little bad for him waking up alone after being that vulnerable together, but he didn’t seem upset about it.
“Sleep time,” I promised, taking his hand and switching off the lights as we went.
“Can we wait to tell Rory until she gets out? I don’t really want to do that over the phone or in front of people,” he said as we got into bed and got comfortable.
“Yeah, we can wait. I wonder what she’s doing right now?”
“Lexi, probably,” he grumbled, making me laugh.
“I don’t think they’re that into each other.”
“Doesn’t mean I’m not jealous. Lexi can see her all the time and we have to schedule appointments,” he huffed, curling into me.
“She’ll be out soon,” I reminded him, really hoping I was right.
Marco
“They had an attack in the prison today,” I said as I sat on the couch at Hunter’s with the laptop, hearing his footsteps hurry in from his office.
“What? Is that why she didn’t call? Is she hurt again? How do you know?” he asked quickly, the panic obvious in his voice. He was such a sucker for her.
I spun the laptop around for him to see, showing him I’d hacked their database to pull some files.
“She’s not hurt. It looks like her and Lexi are the suspected attackers but there’s no proof. It was a planned attack. Your little princess also got into a fight in the laundry room this afternoon with a newbie too. She wasn’t punished, but the newbie got put in the hole.”
“You hacked them again?” he growled, but he sat beside me to take the laptop to read over the incident report. “Who’s the newbie? Do you think it’s the Soldiers’ connection?”
“Some Tameka Vines chick. No idea if she’s connected to them. The girl that got attacked today by Rory and Lexi seems to run with a bunch of girls that got put in the hole today though. One of Lexi’s girls, Kat Mila, was part of the fight that put them all in there too. Coincidence?”
He snorted, giving me a glance. “You know damn well Lexi set it all up for her own benefit.”
“It’s smart. Get rid of the other girl’s crew, block some cameras, and get the girl alone.
Security was apparently distracted by a guard and didn’t see anything happening until the cameras were back to normal, so nothing was reported for an hour.
The same guard had taken Lexi and Rory from their work stations before they returned without him.
Shit, do you think they bribed him with pussy? ”
“Lexi? Yes. Rory? Absolutely not,” he snorted, flicking through the reports about the girls in the hole. “These girls are all bottom feeders. Junkies with a complex. There’s strength in numbers though, and a handful of junkies is a pain in the ass if you only need to teach one of them a lesson.”
“True. I’ll look into the newbies more,” I confirmed, taking the laptop back and bringing up the security system.
“Mark,” he warned when he noticed what I was doing, but I shrugged it off.
“It’s fine. Just a peek.”
I hacked into their system and flicked to the right cameras, looking back through footage of the evening to see what Rory had been up to.
She’d spent most of the evening on the couch with Lexi, Jamie, and Matilda.
Lexi flirted with one of the guards when he did his rounds, and Rory lazily put her legs over Matilda’s lap to stretch out more as they picked at snacks.
I scrolled back to the afternoon footage to see the fight in the laundry room, smirking as Rory very obviously started the fight to get the other girl in trouble.
“What a sly bitch,” I muttered with amusement, Vines being dragged off to the hole.
We watched everything down to the footage of the warden’s office when she spoke to Rory about the fights, and Rory played the role of a bored inmate really damn well for someone who’d definitely been involved with more than she was admitting to.
“What are the chances of her getting assault charges and doing more time even if we get her out of this fucking murder charge?” I asked dryly, and he groaned.
“We really need to get her out now before that happens. I can’t get her out of charges if she beats people up on camera regularly.”
“She’s a little bit spicy.”
“A little bit?” he said with a scoff, motioning for me to click out of it all before we could get caught. “She has to be spicy for Skeet to be that interested for so long. He doesn’t like boring girls. You need to back off from him, man.”
“Me?” I said with fake surprise, but I knew exactly what he was talking about.
“Yes, you. You’re going to get us shot,” he grunted, lighting a cigarette.
“I don’t know why. He didn’t mind me choking on his cock,” I smirked, making him sigh.
“If he shoots you, I’m going to laugh. You know you can’t fix the damage you caused back then, even if it was for his own good.”
“I don’t want to fix it,” I scoffed, and he gave me a knowing look. That fucker knew I was lying.
“Right now, I need you to focus. Help me get Rory out and away from the Soldiers. Fight with Skeet later when it’s over,” he ordered.
“Fine,” I huffed, putting the laptop on the coffee table and standing to stretch. “I should head home.”
“No Ty tonight?”
“Nah. He’s over at Holloway’s. They’re still tense but at least they’re talking. Means I get out of babysitting duty,” I joked. I’d enjoyed the asshole’s company, if I was being honest. It was nice to just hang out, play games, and drink beer with someone I didn’t work with all the time.
I loved Hunter, he was family, but we were always together. Like tonight, hanging out with him still meant talking crew business and Rory.
I needed to switch my brain off sometimes or I’d explode.
“You’ll be lying in bed lonely tonight sending him sad texts that you miss him,” Hunter deadpanned. “Be careful. If the Soldiers are making moves in the prison, they could be making moves out here too.”
