Chapter Twenty-One

Tyler

I made Daddy coffee at six in the morning. His smile when I handed him the mug was reassuring. The love we shared filled me with optimism until I remembered that my mother had lied to me for years.

“I’ll call you when I get there. I’ll be at the Hilton, and I texted you the contact information. If you need me, call me, Bunny. I’m always available for you. I love you, and I’m always there for you.”

I exhaled. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, Mosby. I could’ve never imagined anyone like you coming into my life, and I will always be grateful. I love you, and I’m sure I always will.”

His face morphed into concern, but I kept the smile. I was surer than ever that I would never see Mosby again. He was going to Los Angeles, and he’d fall into his old life and forget about a pissant like me.

“Bunny, I’ll be back in a few weeks, and I’ll call or text you every day to be sure you’re okay. Please don’t give up on me. We have a great future ahead of us.”

I hoped he was right.
