Epilogue #2 - Us Three

Kiki

It’s been a dream vacation.

Old world charm, scrumptious food, and of course, a day at Disneyland Paris.

Theo loves every minute of the trip as much as I do, even humoring my request to tour every library and museum in the city.

Okay, he played along for about an hour before groaning, but I consider that a win with a seven-year-old.

And what little boy doesn’t love castles, especially when his father bought him a toy sword and shield to defend it against enemies.

The two of them run around the grounds, laughing, squealing, and occasionally earning a scowl from a fellow tourist. But we pay them no mind.

Life is for living.

We spend our final day exploring Edinburgh, and Theo morphs from a knight into a wizard, walking the cobblestone streets, wand in hand.

I settle onto a bench in Princes Street Gardens, soaking in the surreal scenery as the sun kisses the horizon. Yep, I could live here. Without a doubt.

Theo approaches me, a piece of paper in his hand.

“What’s that?”

He shrugs, a strange smile on his face. “It’s for you. From me and Dad.”

I accept the paper and open it, tears filling my eyes and blurring the page.

Written in Theo’s terrible scrawl is:

WILL YOU MARRY US, SUNSHINE?

A sob catches in my throat as I glance to my right. Eddie is on one knee, his gorgeous, hopeful smile in full effect.

He flips open a ring box, his hands trembling. “I love you, Katherine Marie Wilder. My beautiful Kiki. What do you say? Will you spend forever with us?”

I cover my face with my hands, my emotions in an uproar as I sink to the ground next to him. “Yes, of course I’ll spend forever with you three.”

He slides the ring onto my finger and it’s stunning. A vintage round-cut diamond that catches the light nestled inside a halo of smaller diamonds. A homage to the home and heart he restored.

“It’s the most gorgeous ring ever.” I hug them both, holding my guys tight.

Theo high fives his dad. “I did good, right?”

Eddie ruffles his hair. “You did perfect.” Then he leans back on his heels, fixing me with a strange look. “Wait a second. You said us three. Are you including Gus in the mix?”

Damn, talk about a Freudian slip. I chuckle, nibbling on the tip of my thumb. Hey, I still have a few nervous habits hanging around. “Well, no. Not exactly. Although… maybe, but then it would be four…”

Eddie cocks a brow at me, confusion evident on his face. “Kiki, what are you saying?”

I shrug, trying to play it cool but failing miserably. “I’m late. So, I’m not sure, but I think maybe?”

The next second, I’m in his arms, his breath warm against my neck. “We need to take a test. We need to know.”

I wave him off. “We can, when we get back.”

“Or,” he says, pulling me to my feet, one hand holding me and the other holding Theo, “we go now and see if we have even more things to celebrate tonight. Sound good?”

Looking at the excitement in his face eases any lingering doubts about a baby, although he’s wrong about one thing. Life with him doesn’t just sound good.

It sounds perfect.
