Chapter 72 – I Wish I Remembered You

Canyon stood near the front window, feet planted, hands in his pockets, watching Sage talk to the unknown female outside.

The woman was older than Sage, with similar hair, build, and features.

She wore tan slacks and a cream-colored sweater with white shoes.

She drove an expensive car and expensive clothing, meaning she had money.

The two women talked, and Canyon watched their intense conversation, transfixed, then Sage moved them around the back of the vehicle, where he couldn’t see them as well.

He moved to the next window, and then she looked straight at him and locked gazes with him, challenging him from fifty feet away.

The females hugged, then they talked more, and then the other woman got in her vehicle and left.

Sage watched her drive away before she turned around slowly, haltingly, her eyes on the ground, seeming deep in thought.

She made her way up the porch steps but took a long time to come inside.

Canyon waited patiently, fascinated by the turn of events.

Even without hearing a word, he could tell the conversation had been a significant one.

On the couch, Timber whined in his sleep, making Canyon look his way in time to see Timber shifting from wolf to man, still whining. Black fur melded into pale skin and the whine turned into a throat-clearing, then a snore. Canyon grabbed a blanket and covered him.

The door opened. Sage slowly walked in and they locked eyes. She shut the door, never breaking eye contact. Her scent reached him, delicious and devoid of hostility for the first time, making him smile.

She crossed the room slowly toward him. He didn’t move a muscle, not wanting to scare her off.

Even if she was going to punch him again, that was fine by him, but she didn’t punch him; she stepped close and moved right up next to him, pressing her body into his.

He gave her a grin and slid his hands onto her hips.

She slid her hands around his waist, like they were lovers already.

It didn’t make sense, but Canyon wasn’t about to argue.

He looked down into her eyes and said, Hey, sexy, in ruhi.

She didn't respond.

He tried again, out loud. “You're hot.”

She stared up at him with her pretty, amber-colored eyes, so much like wolf eyes that Canyon could lose himself in them.

“You really don't remember me at all?” she said.

“I wish I remembered you.”

“What about when I called you?”

“When was that?”

“April 9th, 2011.”

“More than six years ago,” he said, feeling troubled, because he did remember something like that.

She nodded.

“You asked if I remembered you, and I said I didn't, and then you hung up,” he said.

She nodded, tears shimmering in her eyes, then she tipped her head down, hiding her face. Canyon held her close.

She looked up and said, “You don't remember this?” She slid her hands up his body and pulled him down for a chaste kiss, then broke the kiss and stared into his eyes.

“We kissed?” he asked.

She nodded.

“Did we do more?”

She nodded.

“We had sex?”

She nodded and just like that, her entire attitude since the moment he’d arrived made sense. She’d been treating him like an ex who’d fucked her over. He felt more troubled with each revelation, but he believed her.

“Why don't I remember?” he asked.

She bit her lip, then lowered her head, saying, “Maybe because… it might be because.... uhm,” She shook her head, and looked around, then almost whispered. “Maybe my nana did something.”

“Abigail White,” he said, his voice tight.

“Yeah.”

“We were together, and she took my memory of it?”

“We were together. I don't know if she took your memory, but she might have.”

He didn't speak, considering the situation.

She stepped away from him, her gaze on the floor. She opened her mouth several times, then closed it again, and he realized she was trying to decide if she could… or should trust him or not. Canyon kept quiet.

Finally, she gestured to the driveway and said, “That was my aunt who came. She says my nana can… can take memories.” She was quiet for a beat and then said, “I didn’t know.”

Canyon pulled her close and kissed her. She kissed him back passionately, desperately, and like she knew him in this way. There was no hesitancy, no exploration. This female fully believed she'd been with him before, and that made him believe it as well.

The witch had taken something from him.

He didn't like that. Anger simmered inside him at Abigail White.

He liked this female, and he liked that she didn’t seem to be involved in her ‘nana’s’ witchery. People couldn't help who they were related to. He slid his hands around to her ass and she melted into him.

On the couch, Timber murmured in his sleep, then turned over, facing them, his eyes still closed.

“Is there somewhere private?” Canyon growled into Sage’s ear.

She took his hand and led him into a bedroom near the front door. Inside, he shut the door and pressed Sage into the wall, kissing her softly. She responded, but more limply than she had before. He broke the kiss and gazed into her face, where tears were falling from her eyes.

“I’m just glad not to hate you anymore,” she said,” then she collapsed onto his chest. Canyon put his arms around her and hugged her, turning his lower body so he was no longer pressing his hard cock against her.

***

Sage cried on Canyon’s chest, her thoughts chaotic and out of control.

The emotional whiplash she was going through blanked her mind and wrung her dry.

He stayed quiet while he held her, and for that she was grateful.

Little by little, her tears dried up. Canyon continued to hold her, rubbing her back occasionally.

They stayed that way for a while, and Sage had no way to judge how long.

Years of anger and sadness seeped out of her, leaving her weak and unable to think.

After some time, she came back around to herself. Her head was against Canyon’s chest, and her arms were curled into her body. Their lower halves were separated. Sage snaked her hands around Canyon’s waist and hugged him, and she pressed her full body into him, looking up at him.

He grinned gently at her, saying nothing. She grinned back, feeling the same way she’d felt on their last day together. Smitten.

“What do you want to do now?” he asked.

Sage bit her lip against the words that wanted to tumble out.

She smiled instead and shrugged. He kissed her, smelling like the cool crispness of the outdoors.

From outside the room, they heard a thunk and stopped kissing, staring into each other’s eyes.

Timber was up. He moved around the room and they heard a few thumps, and then he walked past the room they were in and out the front door.

Sage pulled away from Canyon and ran to the window. “He’s naked,” she said, gesturing out the window at Timber’s bare ass.

Canyon shrugged. “His clothes are in my truck.” He went to the bed and sat down, then patted the spot next to him.

Sage went to him. He leaned into her, grasped her around the nape lightly, and pulled her close, kissing her.

Sage melted into the kiss and met his tongue with her own.

He put one hand on her knee and she moved it up her thigh.

He massaged her thigh and all around her leg and she straddled him, her hands fluttering down to find the beast.

The front door opened and closed again. Sage froze, listening.

From outside the bedroom door, Timber said, “How long was I asleep? What day is it?”

Sage looked at Canyon and he was grinning, his hands on her hips. Sage couldn’t help but grin back. She stifled a laugh and listened to Timber clomp around the living area. After she didn’t hear anything for a while, she leaned onto Canyon and kissed him. He ground against her from below.

"Cool," Timber called out loudly from the living room. “I’ma read me some dinosaur porn.” He cleared his throat, then read, “’Come with me,’ Tatiana said, grasping the Velociraptor.

‘I know this is forbidden, but I can't deny my love, my love.’ Teddy the Velociraptor, ripped off her shirt and ravaged her breasts with his tiny hands. She shivered as his scaly, clawed fingers gripped her quivering nips.’”

Sage whispered into Canyon’s ear, “I don’t have any dinosaur porn.” But then she realized what he must be looking at. Aunt Bristol’s secret vice was gargoyle romance and the shelves were full of it.

“I know what he’s looking at—a romance book, and it’s not a dinosaur the woman has sex with, it’s a—”

Canyon moved so his lips were by her ear. “If it’s anything other than a wolf, I don’t think I want to know.”

Sage giggled.

“So Tatiana is a human?” Canyon asked.

“Sure,” Sage whispered. “She can’t be a dinosaur, otherwise, the dialogue would be nothing but squeaks and grunts.”

Canyon laughed. His cock had softened some and she moved off him to sit on the bed, feeling like she was on an emotional roller coaster. She really, really, really liked this male but he was a vod. She could never mate a vod.

… could she?

A voice inside her whispered, ‘It is your destiny.’
