Chapter 10 #10

After dinner, we left the restaurant, Aiden’s hand interlacing with mine as we crossed the rooftop and descended the stairs.

My heart was light, buoyed by the unexpected magic of the evening and the sense that we were perhaps more than just ordinary company.

The cool night air welcomed us back onto the street, our laughter echoing softly as we retraced our steps.

“We’re pretty close, actually,” Aiden said, his voice mixing with the city sounds as he led me through the quiet buildings.

I smiled, realizing he had planned every detail of this night, even this walk through the hushed streets.

There was a subtle thrill in letting him guide the way, in surrendering to the spontaneity that seemed to surround him like a second skin.

Before long, I noticed the familiar outlines of the neighborhood. “You really thought of everything,” I teased, nudging him as we crossed an empty intersection.

His eyes glinted in the streetlight, that mix of mischief and tenderness that left me breathless. “Can’t let you in on all my secrets,” he said, his grin wide enough to feel like an embrace.

We turned a corner, and I took in our surroundings with growing recognition. Aiden took my hand again, a signal that told me he wasn’t quite done with the night’s surprises.

“This way,” he said, his voice carrying the promise of more adventure as we moved forward together.

I hadn’t realized how close we were when we left the restaurant, and as we walked, my bewilderment turned to delight.

The area was one I knew well, familiar pathways opening up as we turned away from the city streets and moved toward the park.

We traversed an overgrown area where I sometimes took Mateo, the path winding beneath a canopy of trees and shadows.

The world seemed to shrink around us, closing in with the intimacy of a whispered secret. The air was thick with the smell of damp earth and leaves, the kind of night that wrapped itself around two people in their own private universe.

Aiden’s presence beside me was both comforting and exhilarating, the night wrapping around us like a secret as we cut through the park, the city giving way to shadows and silence. My heart thrummed, alive with the thrill of him beside me and the tremor of the unknown stretching before us.

Aiden was a dark shape against the moonlit path, but his movements had begun to change, becoming restless and urgent.

“This way,” he urged, his voice now threaded with tension as he guided me through the tangled trees and whispered winds.

I noticed how his eyes scanned the shadows, the earlier ease replaced by something sharper, more alert, as if he sensed a threat looming just beyond my awareness.

I started to mirror his restlessness, my pace quickening to match his.

Every rustle in the leaves took on a new and ominous weight, and the thrill of the night turned to a prickling unease.

“Aiden, what’s going on?” I asked, my voice betraying the disquiet of my mind.

I wanted to believe this was another of his unexpected surprises, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something dark and dangerous lurked nearby.

His grip on my hand tightened, and I could feel the urgency in his pull, a quiet desperation that sent a shiver down my spine.

We veered sharply off the path, plunging deeper into the shadows.

The comforting hum of the city faded behind us until nothing but the eerie symphony of the wild filled the air.

My heart began to race, pounding in time with our footsteps as we navigated the dense underbrush.

Silence fell like a shroud, wrapping us in quiet so profound it pushed against my ears.

The anticipation of what lay ahead gnawed at me, and each second stretched into infinity, suspended between fear and hope.

“Aiden?” I called out again, my voice wavering with the unspoken terror that clawed at my chest. I didn’t know what I expected him to say, but my instinct told me the night was about to end in a way I couldn’t foresee.

He glanced back, his expression a striking blend of determination and worry as he drew me closer.

“Almost there,” he said, but I could hear the edge in his words, a tension that sent adrenaline spiking through my veins.

It was clear now, this wasn’t part of a plan.

Something was coming, something he was afraid of.

The world seemed to hold its breath with me, the familiar park now an alien landscape under the brooding sky. A low growl broke the strained stillness, and we were suddenly surrounded by sound and movement, the air alive with menace.

Into The Maw

The first howl shattered the stillness, and I froze, my mind struggling to make sense of the feral shadows closing in.

Panic spiked as the night erupted with snarls and teeth.

Aiden yanked me behind him, his body a solid barrier against the encroaching darkness.

His voice thundered through the stillness, sharp and authoritative as he faced the lurking shadows.

“Leave us alone,” he growled, each word laced with an intensity that vibrated in the air, demanding obedience. The tension crackled like electricity, filling the space between us with a palpable sense of danger.

It happened in an instant, as if the very fabric of the night had torn apart, spilling chaos into our serene moment.

Inky shapes slithered from the shadows, wolves with glowing crimson eyes that seemed to slice through the darkness, their jaws glistening like polished steel under the faint moonlight.

My heart raced. This couldn’t be real.

I wasn’t imagining things. They were wolves. Here. In the park. In the middle of the city.

What. The. Actual. Hell?

My mind screamed for clarity, grappling with disbelief.

Was this some twisted nightmare? I glanced at Aiden, his fierce determination contrasting sharply with my spiraling panic.

How could he stand so resolute against such a primal threat?

My thoughts spun out of control. What did I really know about him?

Had he seen anything like this before? A wave of dread washed over me as I realized I was caught in something far beyond my understanding.

I had come here for a date, not to face down a pack of rogue wolves. What had I gotten myself into?

They lunged, hungry and relentless, a terrifying pack closing in with vicious intent.

It was a symphony of savagery, the air thick with the snarls of the relentless beasts and the sound of pounding paws.

The ferocity of their attack was a blur of fur and fangs, an untamed fury that left me paralyzed.

My heart thundered in my chest, yet I was too stunned to scream, too shocked to move, my body unwilling to obey the primal instinct to flee.

Aiden pushed me with urgency, his face twisting in fierce concentration and something I couldn’t name, something like desperation or fear. “Run, Josie!” he yelled, his voice a ragged command, filled with an intensity that shattered through the noise.

My feet felt like they were glued to the ground as I watched him, paralyzed by disbelief.

How could this be happening? My heart raced, pounding against my ribcage, a frantic drumbeat echoing my spiraling thoughts.

His body twisted and contorted, bones cracking and reshaping in a grotesque display that sent shivers down my spine.

One moment, Aiden stood before me, his fierce gaze locked onto the approaching threat; the next, he transformed into a massive wolf, dark and powerful, fur rippling under the moonlight.

This wasn’t just some surreal nightmare; it was my reality unraveling at the seams. The world tilted around me, and I felt as if I might fall into an abyss of confusion.

How could I have missed this? I had been drawn to him, charmed by his intensity, yet here he was, revealing a truth so monstrous it shattered everything I thought I understood.

A wolf? In the middle of the city? The thought screamed through my mind, colliding with the remnants of my rationality.

Was this why he had always felt different, why there was an edge to him that I couldn’t quite place?

A wave of sheer terror washed over me, mingling with a strange sense of fascination.

What did this mean for us? For me? I was supposed to be on a date, not caught in the grip of something so primal and terrifying.

As I stood there, my breath quickening, I couldn’t help but wonder, what else was he hiding?

What other secrets live beneath that charming exterior?

The urgency of the moment clawed at me, but all I could do was watch as the man I thought I knew transformed into something wild and untamed.

Something that I thought was only a myth.

I stumbled back, disbelief crashing through me with each frantic heartbeat.

The night should have swallowed me whole, but instead it sharpened, every detail a vivid nightmare.

The dozen wolves circled us, snapping and vicious, their focus split between me and the impossible sight of Aiden as a beast. He was wild and unrelenting, tearing into the rogues with an animal savagery that should have terrified me, but all I felt was an overwhelming, paralyzing confusion.

I blinked, the chaos too much to comprehend, Aiden’s massive form a stark reality I couldn’t accept.

My mind raced, tangling with the primal violence around me and the quiet life I thought I knew.

It was all unraveling, a brutal assault on everything I believed possible.

The rogue wolves closed in, a brutal tide, and Aiden met them with a fearlessness that rooted me to the spot, half in awe, half in terror.
