Chapter Four

Silas

The sun pierced through the curtains, stirring me awake.

The weight of her body on mine kept me in place.

I had no intention of waking my wife just yet.

Gingerly, I turned to see her face. Her eyes were closed softly, a gentle sigh coming from her slightly parted lips.

Even in her sleep, she was perfect. I brushed strands of her chocolate hair away from her face.

“Silas,” she whispered.

Her eyes were closed, her breathing steady, so I whispered the truth while she slept. “You’re my world, Yelena.”

“Don’t break my heart,” she sighed, returning to her light breathing a second later.

“Never.” I rubbed her back gently, fighting off the arousal burning inside me. We lay there for at least half an hour until my damn phone rang again. Yelena immediately stirred, making me want to launch my phone. Who the hell would intrude on my alone time with my woman?

I reached to mute and send it voicemail, but my assistant’s name popped up on the caller ID. It was way too early in the morning for this, but something massive must have happened.

“Ms. Bell, what’s so important that you’re calling me at seven in the morning?” I asked, annoyance laced in my voice.

“Sorry, Mr. Harrison. I just wondered if you managed to fix the problem with the Christiano Corporation.” I wanted nothing to do with Santos Christiano, but that was personal and none of my assistant’s business.

I rubbed my temple and then said, “That’s not something you need to be focused on.”

“They want a meeting, and it’s on my list of things for this morning.”

“Well, I already informed them that I’m busy.”

“Busy? What could be more important than a hundred-million-dollar deal?”

“My wife,” I replied.

“Wife,” she gasped. She knew that I’d been in search of a woman for months. She shouldn’t be surprised.

“Yes, now if you’ll excuse me. Finish the two projects you have, ignore Christiano, and then take the next three days off.”

“Yes, Mr. Harrison.” I didn’t care for her questions, and I’d have normally scolded her, but my wife was sleeping.

She was too involved with my business. Her job didn’t include getting into the financial aspect of the company.

I paid a CFO for that. If that prick harassed me about it, I’d tell him the same damn thing.

Just as I ended the call, Yelena sat up and moved out of my grasp. “Who was that?”

“My assistant.” Her brow raised, arching with unspoken concern.

“What time is it?” she asked.

“Seven.”

She adjusted herself, sitting straight up in bed. She bit down on the corner of her bottom lip and said, “She calls you this early?” I didn’t mistake that tone; jealousy drove that question, which both aroused and angered me.

“Not normally. I am sorry she woke you.” I was about one more inappropriate call or snide reply away from firing her. My assistant had been acting differently for the past few months, and it ticked me off.

“It’s fine.” I grabbed her chin and tilted her head to look at me.

“It’s not fine, so don’t tell me it is. I already warned her about calling for no reason. You have no reason to be jealous.” She needed to understand how important she was to me.

“You think I’m jealous?” she asked.

I gave out a short laugh. “I know you are, but that’s okay because you don’t know me that well. My word is my bond, Yelena. You’re my wife, and you never have to worry about a woman coming in between us.”

“You promise?”

“Yes. I promise.” My beautiful bride did not know the level of my obsession with her. I’d tell her, but scaring her away wasn’t something I wanted to do.

“You seem angry. Did I do something?”

“No, love. You are perfect.”

“How about I make you breakfast?”

“I’d like that,” I replied. I dropped my lips down on her forehead and then slid off the bed.

“Let’s get ready.” She nodded and then tossed off the covers.

I tried to look away, but the blood immediately traveled straight to my dick.

“Damn it,” I grumbled, hastened to snag my phone, and left the room.

She flitted around the kitchen like she’d done it a thousand times. How often had they made her cook and clean?

“Do you enjoy cooking?” She stopped for a moment and smiled.

“Not for my family, but for fun, yes.” I really wanted to ring the fuck out of her father’s neck, maybe snap it.

Just as she was finishing up the pancakes, my sister came into the room. “Good morning,” she said with the sing-song voice.

“Good morning, Reya. Did you sleep well?” I asked my little sister.

“Yes. I love a good storm.” She returned the question to us. “How about you?”

“I’ve never slept better,” I answered with my attention focused on my bride whose ears and cheeks reddened. I wanted to sleep with her in my arms every night.

“Yes, the weather was a bit wild, but I finally fell into a deep sleep.”

“Yeah, sometimes the storms out here get a little nuts.”

“Well, do you want some breakfast?” she asked my sister.

Reya grinned from ear to ear, rubbing her flat stomach. “Oh, I’d love some breakfast.” Reya wasn’t one to turn down a meal. I didn’t know where she put all that food.

“Broseph, your phone’s ringing.” I’d been so lost in my wife’s movements that I didn’t hear my phone ring.

“It’s your assistant,” Reya sighed, sounding more put out than Yelena had been that morning.

I watched my wife, gauging her reaction.

Yelena didn’t make any comments or faces as she continued to cook.

Her body gave away her disapproval. Her shoulders pushed back as her back stiffened.

I picked up the call right before it went to voicemail. “This better be important.”

“Silas, the Christiano group refuses to take no for an answer.” They could fuck off for all I cared. The bastard lied to me and tried to steal my wife while attempting to pawn his daughter off on me.

“Since when do you call me Silas?”

“Sorry, Sir. I … I…I forgot myself. Mr. Santos from the group is on the other line.”

“I’ll call him back.” I ended the call because it was her job to deal with these greedy bastards who wanted a part of my projects, and I’d already made it clear to him that all deals were null and void.

I refused to give the bastard my time or money after he played in my face. Having lied about knowing my wife that night was more than enough to cut him off completely.

As we ate breakfast, the clouds rolled in heavily. “Damn it, it looks like we’re in for another round of nasty weather. Ladies, maybe we should stay inside.”

“No problem. I’m sure we could get into tons of trouble in the house.” I glared at my sister and then smiled at my wife. “Don’t let her give you a hard time.”

“I won’t.”

I kissed her forehead and added, “Thank you for the breakfast. A man could get used to his wife’s care.” She smiled but didn’t give me any response. I didn’t know how to read her yet.

“I’ll be working on calls in my study, but then I’ll be available and hopefully the weather will improve for our time out like I promised.”

It didn’t let up until it was too late to take them out shopping, so we watched a movie together. Before it was halfway over my wife fell asleep next to me on the sofa.

“Go ahead and take her to bed. I’m good. I’ll straighten up down here.” I nodded and then scooped up Yelena into my arms. She felt incredible to hold.

“Goodnight,” I whispered, and then took my wife to her room.

I laid her on the bed and pulled the covers over her. “Stay,” she murmured.

“Yes, my dear.” I took off my shirt and pants before climbing into bed beside her. It took my entire being to stop myself from stealing light touches. Everything in my body wanted to experience the pleasure of her. Time. I mentally uttered on repeat until my eyes grew too heavy to stay awake.
