Chapter Ten

Cassie didn’t look upset now. In fact, she looked downright smug.

Robbie stared at her as he noticed the change in Cassie. He narrowed his eyes and glared at her. “You? You took my fucking gold? How the hell did you know about that?”

Cassie smirked fully now. “I knew about it because I know you, Robbie. You said you were looking for me for five years? Well, I found you long before you found me. I watched you for the longest time and I followed you all over town while you were looking for me. I also noticed you kept coming here. This was where you stayed when you couldn’t go home anymore.

I knew this was where you came just to get away from Janelle.

” Shaking her head she admitted, “Not that I blame you for that. She was bat shit crazy even back then.”

Banger looked angry as he growled at her, “You moved the gold? You’ve known all along where my gold is and you didn’t tell me?” He struggled as he tried to free himself. “I’m gonna kill you, bitch!”

Deke extended his leg and kicked the other man in the head with his size 13 boot. “You aren’t going to touch her, ever again. Motherfucker.”

Banger rolled over and groaned as he glared up at Deke.

Cassie crossed her arms over her chest and nodded. “Yeah, I know where the gold is. I know where it’s been since the day I moved it. I left just enough for someone to think they hit the jackpot, I never knew that someone would end up being Robbie.”

Sam finally spoke up, “Do you know where it is now?”

Cassie shrugged. “Well, I knew where it was six years ago. I have no idea if it’s still there or not.” She looked around the room then said, “I think it’s still there?”

Robbie frowned and looked around the room just as she had. “You mean the gold is here and has been all this time?”

Cassie grinned. “Yeah, butthead, I didn’t move it far, just where you would never look for it. That was a lesson from your mother Janelle.”

Robbie scoffed. “That bitch was never my mother and you know it.”

“But you called her mama every day for most of your life, didn’t you? You sucked her hind tits every day just to prove you were her good little boy, didn’t you?”

“Where’s the fucking gold?” Banger demanded to know.

“Yeah, Cassie,” Robbie mocked. “Where’s the fucking gold?”

Cassie smiled as she walked over to the old, chipped fireplace. The only remaining fixture in the room. She slapped the mantel part and said, “It is right here and has been since the day I moved it.”

Robbie screamed, “You lying bitch! If it was really there, I would have found it a long time ago.”

“Would you? I mean really, dumbass. Would you have found it?” Cassie shook her head.

“You never would have, because you were too fucking lazy to do the work. You always took the easy way out or in. I’m surprised you could even get yourself dressed every day without Janelle picking your clothes out for you.

Too lazy and too stupid to really apply yourself and make a decent life.

You killed women not because I cut your manhood off.

No, you killed them because they never wanted you anyway. Dick or no dick.”

A small burst of laughter came from a few feet away.

They all looked over at Melora as she had let out that laughter.

She covered her mouth and then looked at Cassie. Dropping her hand she grinned. “You are my hero, Spitfire Girl. And you always will be.”

There was a smattering of chuckles in the room as many men there nodded in agreement to her statement.

“How did you get the gold inside the fireplace?” Mountain asked Cassie.

Cassie shrugged. “It was a bit of work but I closed off the shoot for the chimney. Then I dragged the gold box by box to the roof. I used ropes and pulleys. It took me a couple of days I admit, but I did it. That shit is heavy. I dropped it all down the chimney.”

Mountain walked over to the pit of the fireplace and stuck his hand up the flute.

He felt something and turned his head to look at Cassie.

Then he reached back in there and shifted to boards.

Suddenly, a gentle rumble came from the chimney then he scrambled away as the rumbling got louder while dust and debris began funneling out of the chimney.

Finally, everyone there saw the gleam of gold as it began piling up in the pit part of the fireplace and spilled out into the room.

“Holy shit!” Chance exclaimed as the dust cloud settled and one or more of the men were coughing.

Robbie just stared at the pile in the fireplace as his eyes no longer looked cold. No, he was the stunned one now.

Now, Banger shouted, “That’s my gold, you motherfuckers! It belongs to me, not Robbie. He stole it from my brothers before he killed them both. That’s my family’s treasure and now it belongs to me.”

Deke walked over to where he was slumped on a huge pile of trash. “You are correct. But you lost every fucking right you had in this whole fucking world when you took our women and hurt them.”

“The hell you say? So you are just gonna kill me and take it for yourself?” Banger accused.

“Aww, hell no.” Deke scoffed. “I don’t want blood-covered gold.”

“Well, you can’t give it to that motherfucker either!” Banger argued as he motioned his head at Robbie.

Mountain nodded. “That’s true because Robbie can’t spend it in hell.” He laughed.

Robbie looked up at him and scowled, “You all can’t mean to kill me all over again!”

“No, we aren’t.” Deke shook his head.

Everyone looked over at him.

“Neither one of you will live to spend it,” Sam said. “There ain’t no way you leave here alive.”

“We failed in that before,” Deke added. “That is why we are all here now.”

Banger scoffed. “So you are all murderers? No better than the men I knew in prison?”

“We were better and look how you repaid that.” Deke growled. “You went and took yet another one of our women, you stupid motherfucker!” He looked pissed now.

“Yeah, and it is baseball rules,” Sam added. “Three strikes and you are out.”

“So...so. How? Banger asked.

“How are you going to die?” Mountain supplied the question for him.

Banger nodded as for once he had nothing to say.

“Just do it quick!” Robbie screamed. “I’m done anyway! Get it over with!”

Chance nodded at the few Sinners present. “Thank you guys for all your help. Tell Hawk we thank him too.”

This was their cue to leave. They knew that the Sin’s Bastards didn’t want them involved in this part. They all stepped out and left.

Deke shook his head and looked back over at Banger then at Robbie. “I really would like to...” He clenched his fists. “Cut your hearts out while you watch.”

“Or we could slowly drown them?” Sam offered an idea.

“Nah,” Mountain said. “I say break each bone in their bodies. That will take a bit of time, but hell... it will be worth it.”

Sam snickered.

“I think...”

They all looked up at Melora as she had said this.

“You should ask Cassie...” Melora shared her opinion. “It looks like she has outsmarted most people. I think her ideas are worth listening to.”

The men all swung their gazes over to Cassie.

Cassie slowly shook her head. “As you all know. I stopped you from killing Banger before and that was because I feared for your souls.” She looked down at Robbie and added, “He doesn’t have one of those.

Not now. Maybe he never had one. But what he did to all those women?

Slashing them and carving that filthy name on their backs while they were still alive?

He deserves death for sure. Those poor souls need to rest. They never got justice since he never died, did they?

” She looked over at Banger. “And you got two chances to stop this madness. Both times, you weren’t grateful for that.

I can see you also do not have all your marbles.

Cause Virgil... you are crazier than a fucking loon. ”

There were grunts of agreement and some snickers.

Banger just glared at her.

“So what?” Robbie sneered at her. “You get to be queen finally? Like you always wanted when Janelle had that title? You get to dictate what happens to me?”

Cassie cocked her head at him and replied, “Why yes, Robbie. For once in your miserable, ugly, godforsaken life...You are exactly right.” She smirked.

He grunted and looked away.

“I say we bury them in coffins,” Cassie told them her idea. “With the gold. That way they can be in eternity with what meant the most to them.”

The men present all went silent as they mulled this idea over.

“Geeze, woman,” Sam spoke now in a quiet tone. “Remind me not to piss you off.”

The room filled with more snickers.

“NO!” Banger yelled. “My brother’s kids deserve to inherit that gold! You can’t rob them of that!”

“I think giving them the gold wouldn’t be doing them any fucking favors,” Deke spoke up. “Generations have suffered to add to it. Your brothers died horribly because of it. And you went to prison then went insane over it. I’m betting that it is cursed. It hasn’t ever done you any favors, Virgil.”

Robbie started to laugh.

They all looked over.

“Yeah, speaking of looney,” Sam scoffed.

Robbie’s laughter grew.

Cassie paused to stare at Robbie. “He only does that when he thinks he’s winning.”

Robbie now laughed louder. “You will all be buried! Right along with us and the gold!” He snorted through his nose as his laughter took his breath away.

“Oh, fuck!” Chance exclaimed.

They all looked over at him now.

He had lost all the color in his face. “He had something in that basement that could have been... All of you get the hell out! NOW!” he shouted.

They all turned and rushed out through the door.

Banger yelled, “Wait!”

Cassie yelled back, “I will make sure those kids get an inheritance, Virgil!”

Deke scooped her up and rushed her out.

They all ran down the sidewalk for about a half a block and then it happened.

BOOM!

They were all knocked off their feet.

Debris fell everywhere and dust billowed out in thick waves as some trash floated down from the sky as well.

After a couple of weary minutes, they all slowly got up.

Sam picked Melora up and headed to the truck. “Get moving! We can’t be here when the cops and firetrucks arrive!”

Deke grabbed Cassie’s hand as he tugged her along. “Look at it this way, baby. We didn’t kill them. They died by their own hands... pretty much.”

Mountain agreed as he stopped to get onto his bike. “And they are buried with the gold, just like you said.”

Cassie turned and looked back as the whole house had disappeared into a huge hole. Like the whole obnoxious thing had been buried completely. No fire and no smoke, just some trash and dirt on top.

They got into the truck as Chance pushed Sam’s bike into the back and shut the tailgate. He then rushed away to get on his bike along with his brothers.

Now, the bikes all roared away.

From next to her in the seat, Melora grabbed Cassie’s hand and said, “Let’s go home and hug our kids for about an hour straight.”

Cassie squeezed her hand as she smiled while they drove down the street and back to the freeway. “They are our gold, ya know?”

“Amen to that,” Sam stated as he kissed Melora’s cheek.
