FOURTEEN #3
My eyes widened and I pulled back, looking him in the eyes. His words echoed in my head, and after the fact that he spoke my language settled in, his words resonated with me.
Both of my hands flew to my mouth, hiding a ridiculously happy smile. There’s no way.
I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped my lips as I leaned forward, throwing my arms around his neck. “I can’t believe it!” I squealed, squeezing him in my arms. I pulled back to look at him, unable to mask my pure excitement.
Besides my mother, I didn’t have anyone to speak the language with. “Oh, Kaden!” I beamed, going back in to hug him while squeezing my eyes shut in excitement.
His arms wrapped around me too, and I could feel them tighten around my lower back as he tugged me the tiniest bit closer.
This was incredible! My mom was the only person in my life who spoke the language. Not even my father made the effort to learn it for either of us. And now, I have Kaden too.
My blood ran cold. I immediately pulled back, letting go of him entirely as I covered my mouth.
“I’m sorry— Kaden, I—”
He cut me off by shaking his head, and pulled my hands down from my face. His large hands swallowed mine.
“Does the hug mean you’re less afraid of me now?” he asked and with my racing heart, I lowered my eyes to his hands that held mine. Internally, I swooned at the fact that this strong, intimidating and handsome man was doing something as simple as holding my hand.
My reply was reluctantly playful. “Maybe.”
He let go of my hands, grabbing my face. “Dostat?chno dob?r.” Good enough?
My mind latched onto his words before his lips came crashing down onto mine.
Instantly, I melted into his kiss. His lips were soft, and his grip on my face turned firm as I leaned into the kiss. Fireworks.
My racing heart slowed to a steady pace as pure bliss fell over me.
The moment his tongue slid into my mouth, it felt like a collision of butterflies and goosebumps.
He gripped my hips, pulling me toward the edge of the countertop and I wrapped my legs around his waist, slipping my arms around his neck.
I tightened my arms around him, pulling his body to mine, satisfying the desperate craving of wanting to feel him close to me.
His hands trailed up from my hips and I felt him squeeze my waist, his mouth dominating mine. My chest pressed into his, and he lifted his hand to my throat, his tattooed fingers curling around my neck.
He kissed me into a frenzy, and when he finally pulled back, my chest heaved for oxygen.
Kaden kissed me.
I kissed Kaden.
I felt giddy as I stared back at him. Wordlessly. His eyes were always hard, and frightening, and in this moment, that hadn’t changed, but the energy around him did.
I teasingly poked my pointer finger to his chest. “You’re a really good kisser.”
“Did you doubt it?”
I smiled, playfully sighing as I adjusted my arms around his neck. “Not even for a second.”
Not once did his serious, and brooding expression waver, but I could see the amusement in his eyes, and hear it in his voice too.
Carefully, he helped me off the countertop and I thanked him, leaving the kitchen. I was afraid to see how red I was.
I noticed an orange glow being cast over the living room and when I entered, I saw that a fire had been made.
I spotted Chase occupying one of the couches with his laptop on his lap and some paperwork laying on the couch to his right. He had a red pen in his left hand, while his right hand lifted a script.
I couldn’t help but rush over, plopping down beside him.
“Be honest,” I began, crossing my legs as I leaned toward him, scanning the script in his hand. “Do you laugh at our answers?”
He grinned, casting me a slight glance before he continued typing. “Sometimes.”
“I fucking knew it.”
His head turned toward me, and his eyes were dark. “Language.”
I swallowed hard. “Sorry.”
“I won’t warn you again about using such foul words, Dakota.”
I nodded in understanding. “Force of habit—” He pinned me with a look. “That will be broken starting right now,” I smiled.
“You’re not allowed to continue lurking,” he finally said, dropping the script to his right, and exited the document he was just in.
“But I want some attention,” I protested, leaning in as I gently ran my hand down his chest.
He simply closed his laptop. “I have work to do.”
“Five minutes,” I pleaded, stopping shy away from his belt. “Just five minutes.”
He grabbed my wrist, stopping me and my eyes shot up to meet his.
“I thought you were working.”
My head snapped to the doorway and I saw Logan entering. He found his place beside me, and I turned to meet Chase’s eyes once again.
“I am,” he said, still looking at me.
I sighed, pulling my hand from his grip before throwing my head back. My groan was irritable. “Kaden is being nicer to me tonight than you are.” I lifted my head, crossing my arms over my chest. “And that fucking says a lot.”
Without a second thought I got to my feet but barely made it across the room when a strong hand grabbed my nape, stopping me dead in my tracks.
With one step he eliminated the space between us. “Turn around and kneel.” Ohhh fuck.
