Chapter 34 #2

“You’re our driver,” I say, knowing what it’s like to need to have a role.

“We’ll have comms like before, but smaller ones so they can’t be seen.

I may be able to get the lay of the club through the video cameras inside, though the hallways may not be covered.

Whatever I can’t see, I’ll pull up the plans they had to give the city.

Either way, I’ll know enough in an hour. ”

“Let’s get our heads in the game, pack up, and head to the car in the next hour and a half,” Harlan says. “This will get us to the club by…”

Quickly plugging in the destination into my phone, I hum under my breath as I see how far it is from us.

“Ten, ten-thirty at night. Looking at the weather, it appears that we’re going to luck out and shouldn’t expect any heavy snowfall where we’re traveling to,” I reply. “The club doesn’t close until five in the morning. That’s when Maeve was leaving.”

“Jesus,” Syrus mutters, rubbing his face. “Guess I need to get moving. I don’t have much to prep. My gun is serviced, I have ammo in the gun safe, and I have the day off.”

“Go take a nap with Silva,” I suggest. “We have the rest covered.”

Nodding, he gets up and leaves the room.

“Let me automate my searches so I can download the rest of my intel,” I suggest. “We need to let Sloane and Aiden know where we’re going.”

I believe in back-up plans, and in case things go pear shaped, I want someone other than Silva to know where we’re going. A few key strokes in my programs have my computer compiling reports for me, something I painstakingly created for my own use.

I am often moving in several different directions at once, and I need my devices to help me do that. Often, if I don’t have the information in time, people die.

Putting my computer to the side, I stand, chuckling as I watch Isidro chug down more of his water.

“Guard the house and keep drinking,” I tease him, enjoying the way he flips me off. “Not unless you’re the one shoving it in my ass, baby boy.”

“I can’t be turned on right now,” he grumbles as he perfumes. Damn, he really is working through his meds fast. “Do you think if I do an enema now that it’ll be through my system in an hour?”

“Absolutely not,” Harlan says. “Skip it and we’ll figure it out. Your scent is already pretty strong, Izzy.”

“Good. I have to piss,” he says, leaving his cup on the table as he walks quickly to the bathroom.

“He’s a mess,” I chuckle, headed to the front door with Harlan.

“Should we mention the security company to Sloane and Aiden? Things have been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to mention it to him,” Harlan sighs.

“Yeah, we may as well,” I agree.

Before we know it, we’re knocking on Lexi’s front door, waiting for admittance. This isn’t something I want to do on the phone.

Sloane opens the door, brow raised.

“This looks official. Everything okay?” he asks.

“We’re going out of town tonight. I found Syrus’ sister,” I explain. “We also wanted to run something by you and Aiden.”

“Of course,” he says, letting me in. “Lexi and Emmett are doing some errands. So we have the house.”

“It’s nothing secretive,” I shrug, coming inside.

Harlan follows me, and we walk back to the living room where Aiden is already sitting.

“What’s that smell?” he asks, confused. “Why do you smell like an omega? Are you fucking around on Silva?”

“What?” I ask, shaking my head. “Fuck no. Why are you asking me that?”

“You reek of marshmallows,” Sloane says, wrinkling his nose. “Have you been making s’mores or some shit?”

Harlan and I both smell our clothes when we realize what they mean.

“No,” I say. “That’s Isidro’s scent. He’s an omega.”

“No fucking way!” Sloane says, shaking his head. “I’ve known him for years. He’s definitely a beta. Why the fuck are you lying to us?”

“Ugh,” I groan. “He’s currently pissing a stream to flush the rest of his suppressants. He’s been on them the entire time we’ve been working together. Once a year, he ditches them to have a heat. Why do you think we take a week off during that time?”

“Use your brains, please,” Harlan grumbles. “Isidro has been hiding his designation because he didn’t believe he’d be able to do his job otherwise. He’s incredible at what he does.”

“I’m trying to process this,” Aiden confesses. “I can’t say either way if he’d have been able to do what he does. Omegas draw attention. His scent hit me in the face as soon as you came into the room. Why is he suddenly detoxing?”

“He is pretending to be interested in sex work tonight,” I explain.

Sloane and Aiden stare at Harlan and I as if I just broke their brains, making me groan. Pulling out my phone, I text Izzy to come over. I apparently need to offer proof of omega.

“It’s his cover while we get into the club that’s holding Syrus’ sister hostage,” I say. “She’s definitely being trafficked in New Mexico. However, in order to be able to play the part, Isidro needs to finish purging his meds. We’re not planning to lead missions anymore.”

“It’s unhealthy for him to hide his designation, and coming down from them is rough,” Harlan adds. “We’re opening a new security business, and we might have new hires. Gary is sending us people from his side of things that are tired of government work.”

“We got the email yesterday. We just haven’t had a chance to reach out to each one of them yet,” I say.

“We’ve been talking about packing it in ourselves, and figuring out something closer to home. You guys move really fast,” Aiden says.

“Well, there’s a place for you if you want it,” Harlan says. “These guys need training as they assimilate into civilian life. You’ve both experienced it, who better to do the job?”

“One of the surrounding towns probably has space we can rent out so we aren’t bringing more alphas into Widows Peak,” I suggest. “It doesn’t need to be a difficult shift from running missions to facilitating them. You can make sure they’re up to snuff for what’s waiting for them.”

“You definitely don’t fuck around,” Sloane sighs. “Yeah, I’m game. I do enjoy being scary and beating the shit out of people. Calling it training is just making it sound very official.”

Snorting, I nod as my phone vibrates.

Izzy

I’m here. Am I in trouble?

Rolling my eyes, I walk to the front door and let him in.

“Why would you be in trouble?” I ask, pulling him back to the living area.

Sloane and Aiden’s nostrils flare before they relax with a sigh.

“That’s a big fucking secret you’ve been carrying,” Aiden grunts. “Damn, I’m sorry you felt it was necessary. Even if you thought being on a mission did mean you needed to be on suppressants, we’ve worked with you for a long fucking time.”

Sloane nods, crossing his arms as he gazes at Isidro.

“Omegas are just as lethal as any other designation,” he says.

“I think we definitely saw that in that basement at Henderson Estate. I’m having flashbacks of the torture.

The Widows don’t fucking play. I’ve been watching you work for years, and you can just turn off all your emotions to get shit done, just like the rest of us. Being an omega isn’t a weakness.”

“Did you think it was?” Aiden asks, looking ill.

“I mean, kind of? I don’t think I would have gotten a job with the team initially while we worked for the government if I’d be honest about being an omega.

The blood tests came back as null for designation, and the doctors decided that must mean I was a beta.

I never corrected them,” Isidro says. “I really wanted that job.”

“I kind of figured it out pretty quickly. Biology can only be fought for so long, and he never looked like a beta to me, despite appearing so masculine,” Harlan says.

“I was drawn to him in a way that didn’t initially make sense either.

He also needed alphas to help him through his heat, and Kyren and I were quick to offer. ”

“He’s our scent match,” I interject, just in case it’s needed.

Do you blame me? They thought we were cheating on Silva!

“Two scent matches. It must be in the damn water here or something,” Aiden says, rubbing his neck. “When are you leaving?”

“In an hour,” I say, checking my watch. “I wanted to let you know what was happening. We aren’t taking Silva with us tonight. She’s still not a hundred percent with her sore ribs.”

“We’ll watch out for her,” Sloane offers. “Be safe.”

Thanking him, the three of us head out to see a sex club about an omega.
