Chapter 35 #2

“She’s headed your way, guys,” Izzy mutters under his breath.

Fucking finally.

The door opens a minute later, and I see Genevieve walk in wearing a white, very sheer robe. Kyren and I remain silent as she closes and locks the door, and she walks tentatively toward us in her heels.

“Hello,” she says softly.

“Hey, beautiful,” I murmur. She looks exactly like the girl from the video feed Kyren found. Maeve’s makeup is elegant, despite whatever she’s been doing earlier in the night, but there’s a sadness that tinges her gaze.

“I was told you wanted to book private time with me?” she asks.

“Yes. Come sit on my lap,” I suggest. If there’s a listening device somewhere, I don’t want anyone to hear what I have to say. As her hands move to her belt, I shake my head. “Leave it on for now, okay?”

Nodding, she takes a breath to calm herself as she sits on my leg gingerly. Pulling her slightly closer, I’m not worried about her feeling anything underneath her because my dick has completely deflated while we’ve been waiting.

My lips press to her ear, and I decide to take a leap of faith.

“There’s someone who wants to speak to you. I need you to remain very calm. Act like we’re just chatting, okay?” I ask softly.

Her brows knit together, but she nods as I push an extra comm unit into her ear.

“Sy, say something. She can hear you,” Kyren breathes.

“Hey, baby sister,” he says. “I’ve been looking for you for a really long time. I’m so sorry I’m late, May. These men are part of my pack, and the man you gave the heels to earlier is my omega. We’re getting you out of there. Is there anything we need to know before we do that?”

Genevieve is as still as a statue as she hears her brother’s voice. I can say whatever the fuck I want, but Syrus’ voice can’t be faked. The beta’s tone and cadence are uniquely his.

A single tear rolls down her cheek, and she forces herself to take a breath.

“There are more guards beginning at midnight. It’s when the other owners come in,” she whispers. “It would be best to leave before then.”

“You got it,” Syrus says. “I’ll see you soon. Do what Harlan and Kyren ask, okay?”

She nods though he can’t see it, and I decide to leave the comm in her ear.

“Thanks, Sy,” I murmur. “Izzy, we’re moving in the next ten minutes. Our exit is out back.”

“Good. I’m going on a side quest. See you outside,” Izzy grunts.

“I have a feeling your boss is going to die,” I tell Maeve.

“He’s awful,” she says, shuddering.

“Where does this hallway lead?” Kyren asks, leaning forward. “I need to make sure we have a good path out.”

“It goes in a loop,” Maeve says quickly. “There’s usually one guard at the exit back there. His name is Lars, and his job is to make sure no one slips out without paying.”

“He’s going to find himself in early retirement,” I smirk. “Anything else?”

“More people are filling the club now. Several guys grabbed my hand as I was walking to the room. Judy is going to be too busy to check on us for a while. I’m usually booked out for forty minutes at a time,” she says with a delicate shudder.

“That works in our favor. Anything else?” I ask.

“I don’t think so,” she says, shaking her head. “We have a limited window, but this is as good a time as any.”

“It’s pretty cold outside,” I sigh. “We’re going to get you into the car as quickly as possible. I have clothes you can dress in that’ll be warmer. Until then—”

“The robe is fine,” she interrupts me. “The only reason Judy gave it to me is because you’re new and she thought you’d like the virginal color.”

“Okay. Let’s get moving,” I say, helping her stand. The couch is very low, and it’s not the easiest thing to get up from.

Kyren and I follow her, and she walks quickly to the door. Her hand trembles as she reaches for the handle, and I still her movement.

“If anyone asks, you’re showing us to the restroom,” I explain. “I didn’t see one in here.”

This room is very bare bones, with a couch and a pole for her to dance. There’s nothing else.

“Take a deep breath, Maeve,” Kyren says, making her gasp.

“I haven’t heard that name in a long time,” she rasps. “I’ve missed it. I can do this.”

“If anything happens, we’re prepared to fight our way out,” I explain.

Standing taller, she opens the door and sticks her head out to check the hallway before taking a right to take us deeper into the building.

“I’m moving into position in the alley,” Syrus says. “No one is back here.”

“For now,” Maeve murmurs.

Taking that as the warning it is, Kyren and I stay close behind her as she strides quickly down the hall. Her pace only slows as she turns right again, where a man in a black suit stands at an exit.

“Where are you going, Genevieve?” he asks, grabbing her arm. “Are you two controlling her time?”

“Can’t fuck her without using the loo,” I say with a shrug, wondering if I can cut his fingers off without getting too much blood on Maeve. “She’s taking us there.”

“It’s two doors down on the left,” the guard grunts. “I’ll keep her with me. Maybe she can suck my dick if you take long enough.”

Humming low in my throat, I walk past Maeve before throat punching the dickhead.

This is someone who really can’t read the room.

Kyren pulls Maeve away as the guard chokes.

The movement makes him move forward, allowing me to pull my knife and quietly finish the job by shoving his head down and stabbing him through the back of his neck.

Twisting the weapon hard, I smirk as he drops to his knees.

“Don’t play with your food,” Kyren mutters.

Removing my knife, I shove the guard back, happy to see no life in his eyes.

“Izzy,” I hiss. I hear a snap of a neck, and my lips curl in happiness. The bond tells me my omega is perfectly fine, though I can feel his stress levels increasing.

“I’m good. Let’s roll!” he responds.

Izzy running in heels is something I’ll never forget.

“You’re a menace,” I mutter. “Maeve, will an alarm sound if I open this?”

“Yes. We’ll need to be quick,” she says.

Pushing open the door, I kick the dead man out of the way and begin walking toward the SUV where Syrus is standing. He has his gun up, his eyes moving behind us.

“Down,” he barks out, and I yank Maeve to the ground. It’s freezing, but at least there isn’t snow on the ground here yet.

Syrus shoots behind us as someone shouts and follows us out into the alley, hissing as a bullet hits his shoulder.

“Fucker,” he grits out.

Kyren kicks the door shut with his foot, and we all scramble up toward Syrus.

“I’m fine,” he says, getting into the driver seat.

There’s no time to fight, so I bundle Maeve into the back seat before we’re peeling out.

“There shouldn’t have been anyone behind us,” Maeve breathes with wide eyes.

“I caught the eye of one of the guards after snapping Dylan’s neck,” Izzy groans. “I’m sorry, Syrus.”

“I think I have too much adrenaline in my body to really feel it yet,” he grumbles. “I’ll switch with someone as soon as we’re out of here. I’m pretty sure it’s a scratch.”

“You’re still an impossible ass,” Maeve says, her eyes wet. “I can’t believe you’re really here.”

“I am,” Syrus says, chuckling. “I’m sorry we couldn’t do more for the people still there. You were always our focus.”

“I know,” she counters. “It may be selfish, but I’m really glad you came for me. I haven’t been in the best mindset lately. The Blue Light is one of the worst places I’ve ever been. Maybe one day I can do more for other people.”

“That’s all you can do sometimes,” Izzy says, turning in the front seat to look at her. “It’s fucking cold, and these heels are killing me. Harlan, grab the duffle bag in the trunk please? Let’s get into some real clothes, shall we?”

“Why are you so good at wearing those?” she asks, her lips twitching slightly.

It may be awhile before she can smile, but at least she’ll have the space to do that now.

“I don’t know,” he snorts. “Hey, boss. Think I can add this to my resume?”

“You’re too much,” Kyren chuckles. “I love you so hard. You did awesome in there.”

“I need a shower to scrub off the feel of people touching me, but I’ll survive,” Izzy says.

The time passes with the omegas changing, and I switch places with Syrus so that Kyren can help patch him up enough until we get home. Speaking of, I need to call Silva.

“Do you think that she’ll pick up if I call?” I ask Syrus, biting my lip.

“She’ll be watching her phone,” he replies. “Don’t tell her I was an idiot and got shot, please.”

“If she felt it through the bond…” I trail off.

“You’re bonded to an omega?” Maeve asks, her jaw dropping.

“Two,” Izzy says, raising his hand. “Silva and I had a heat together, and it all kind of happened.”

“Wow,” she rasps. “That’s amazing. Where are we going?”

“Widows Peak,” Syrus grunts. “It’s a safe place for omegas to heal and find peace.”

“That sounds really nice,” Maeve says.

Glancing at her in the rearview, I can see that she’s trying to process everything. Syrus is going to keep an eye on her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s been having thoughts of self harm. It would be perfectly normal if she was.

Connecting the call to Silva, I refocus on the road as I drive. I feel energized now that we’re out, and won’t have an issue getting home.

“Yes? Hold on, Harlan!” Silva yells. The bar is packed I bet. “Okay, I’m in the office. Is everyone okay? Did you get Maeve?”

She’s currently on speaker phone, and I can hear Maeve’s slight gasp as she hears her name. This omega is in for a shock, because Silva is going to smother her with kindness and attention in the best ways.

“We did,” I reply. “We’re also all fine.”

“Harlan,” Silva growls under her breath.

“Jesus, I swear you can always tell,” Syrus grumbles. “I’m only a little bit shot. It’s a flesh wound.”

Kyren snorts as he continues to apply pressure now that Syrus is out of his coat and shirt.

“Only a little bit, my ass,” Silva growls. “We’re quite the pair, aren’t we. Don’t tell me you’re going to work later.”
