Chapter Six
Charity
I know I’m never going to be sexy enough for him. -Charity
I throw myself onto the bed and let the tears flow. I knew it would never work. Why did I think I was good enough for him?
Over the years, I’ve seen the type of women that throw themselves at Silver.
They’re older, more experienced…I must look like a country bumpkin in comparison.
He’s always been polite enough to not bring them home, but he’s a virile man.
I know some of the nights he’s spent away he’s slept with them.
They’ve felt his arms around them. They’ve kissed him.
He’s done all the things to them that I want him to do to me…
Why am I never enough? Never pretty enough, never smart enough…just never enough.
“Charity, open the door, baby. We need to talk.” Silver’s voice is deep and sincere, but I turn to glare at the closed wooden door.
“Fuck you, Silver,” I say in a voice just loud enough for him to hear. I don’t want his sympathy. I don’t want him to say I’m pretty. Not now.
“Charity, open this door, now! I’ve got a key anyway, honey, so I can open it if I want to.” Silver’s voice softens. “You misunderstood me, sweetheart.”
I let out a loud huff and wipe my cheeks. I stomp over to the door and open it just a crack. “I don’t think that there’s any way I could misunderstand what you said, Silver. It was pretty plain.” I glance down at the floor. “I’m going to change and then we can forget this ever happened.”
He shocks me by reaching through the small opening and cupping my cheek.
“Nope, not gonna work for me. I can’t forget what you look like in this outfit.
I could never forget. You haunt my dreams, Charity.
Every damn night. Every damn time I close my eyes.
There you are. So, no I’m not going to just forget this.
Fuck. I couldn’t no matter how hard I tried. ”
My head flies up and I look into Silver’s eyes. I see only sincerity in their blue depths.
I open the door wider. “You think of me?”
He steps forward. “Every moment of every day. I try not to, but you’re there. You’re always there.”
And then my whole world stops. His lips are on mine, kissing me like I’ve always dreamed of. Kissing me like I matter. Kissing me like I’m the One.
