Chapter Twelve

Charity

Maybe I should never have tried for more than I had…fate has always been against me. -Charity

Silver is acting weird. Strangely possessive, but every once in a while, he gives me these looks like he just can’t figure me out. All I feel in return is frustration. I want more than I should, and I know it.

I step out of the way of a cyclist that’s going a little too fast down the path to my next class and ponder my love life.

Well, my lack of one. Sure, I’m having fantastic sex with a fantastic guy, but I am absolutely aware that I will probably never hear those three little words I want to hear from my guy.

I feel like the biggest cliché. A young girl caught in a spiral of self-pity because of an older man that won’t admit he has real feelings for me.

I sigh and adjust my heavy backpack on my shoulders. I should be worried about my classes. My macroeconomics class is killing me. The professor is a beast. He gives us massive amounts of homework and I’m falling behind.

I blow out a long breath and glance up at the historic business building ahead of me. This test today is going to be the death of me. I should be worried about getting a tutor instead of Silver’s odd behavior.

That’s when I feel a small pinch. It’s just the slightest burn, followed by an ache. The feel of arms coming around me comes next.

My vision is already starting to blur when I hear the whisper in my ear. “Bitch, you thought I was going to just give you up. Just give up my position with the Royals. This time you’ll know exactly who I am. Exactly what I’m capable of.”

Cowboy? The hot ball of fear and fury that runs through me is the last sensations I feel as I’m pulled under.

I thought I had gotten away from my past. I thought I was working towards a future that no longer included danger.

Fuck. I feel my body slumping against Cowboy’s heavy figure. Please Silver. Please find me. Please come for me.
