Chapter 15 #3
“Did you fuck her?” Promise asked, knowing she had no right because it was her idea for them to break up, but still.
Monroe chuckled. “Really, you gone ask me that?”
“Nigga, don’t fuckin’ play with me. I may have been shot, but I’ll get my ass up right now and square up with you,” Promise was deadass not playin’ with Monroe.
“Yooo!” Monroe chuckled. “Slow yo’ pretty ass down, killa. Ya man ain’t been givin’ this dick to nobody but chu’.”
Promise smiled wide. “Don’t keep nothin’ else from me, Monroe. I’m your woman. What else do I have to do to prove I’m never going to leave you?”
“That’s real, ma. I hear you, and I’ma do better a’ight,” he assured her. “I got one question though.”
“I’m listening,” Promise said, looking up at him as he towered over her.
“I’on wanna go another day without you being my woman. Will you be mine again?” He asked her seriously.
“I was never not yours,” she winked her eye and smiled. “But just know, you will not be returning to your house while your ex is living there,” Promise let him know. “Your daughter can stay, but her mother needs to get her own place.”
“That’s fair, and I respect it,” Monroe agreed, looking up at the sound of someone knocking at the door.
“Who is it?” Monroe asked from the opposite side of the room.
“Mitch,” his uncle replied.
“Come on, Unc,” Monroe invited, immediately noticing the scowl on his face.
“Ayenephew, let me holla at chu for a minute,” Mitch stated, shifting his attention to Promise. “You good, niece?”
“Yes, I’m okay. Thank you for all you’ve done,” Promise genuinely stated.
“Can it wait?” Monroe asked, not wanting to leave Promise’s side.
Mitch looked at him. “Cas and Stimey got eyes on the mu’fuckas who shot Promise,” Mitch said, not wanting to ‘cause Promise’s blood pressure to spike. “How you wanna handle it?”
Before Monroe could answer, his phone buzzed inside of his pocket. Absently, he grabbed his phone, and noticed that someone was actively breaking into his home.
“What the fuck,” he said aloud, quickly switching over to the app that allowed him to hear and view his in-home security cameras. Seconds later, Macie’s face became clear as day as she shot her gun aimlessly in the air, demanding that Sienna bring her ass downstairs.
“We got a bigger problem on our hands, Unc,” Monroe said, turning to look at Promise.
“Do what you gotta do,” she said, already knowing what would happen if Monroe didn’t hurry and get there.
Monroe kissed her forehead and her belly. “I’ll be back. I promise.”
Shattered glass crashed into the foyer as Macie shot through the window pane, then reached through the jagged opening to unlock the door.
She pushed it open so hard it ricocheted against the wall.
Dressed in fitted black jeans, a thin long-sleeved satin button-down blouse, and black red-bottom stilettos, she stepped over the broken glass.
Macie chose violence when she forced her way into Monroe’s home.
“Bitch! Bring your ass down here!” Macie yelled, and her heels clicked against the hardwood floors, walking toward the living room.
Meanwhile, Sienna had led Monae to Monroe’s room to hide.
She had no way of knowing how this situation was going to end, but one thing was certain, she had to face her giant.
She’d lost too many years allowing Macie to dictate the way she lived her life, Sienna had reached her wits’ end.
So with tears streaming down her face, Sienna wrapped her arms around her daughter, and hugged her like it would be the last time.
“Oh my God, Mom. Is she going to kill us?” Monae asked as her body shook uncontrollably.
Sienna cupped her daughter's face. “Listen to me, Muffin. I love you more than you’ll ever know, but I need you to stay here and do not move. I don’t care what you hear.
What you think. Do not come out here thinking you’re going to help me.
I will protect us. Do you hear me?” Sienna asked, looking her daughter straight in the eyes.
“Yes, I hear you,” Monae said, sniffling. “Please be careful.”
“I will,” Sienna said, closing the closet door.
Lord, please… let there be a gun under Monroe’s bed, Sienna prayed, remembering that years ago Monroe had always kept one there. Back then, she'd hated knowing it was within reach, but Sienna was desperate. She dropped to her knees and felt under the mattress.
“Yes!” She quietly exclaimed, finding exactly what she needed.
Closing her eyes for one more second, Sienna grounded herself, and gathered as much courage as she could, then wrapped trembling fingers around the gun before she stood.
Pst…Pst!
Two bullets flew past Sienna’s head, missing her by mere inches.
“You had one job,” Macie sneered as she stepped into view. "And you couldn’t even do that right,” she paused once she saw that Sienna had a gun too. “Now what are you going to do with that gun? You and I both know you don’t have what it takes to use that. Where is Monae?”
“She’s with my mother,” Sienna lied.
“Good,” Macie said. “I thought I’d have to kill her too.”
“Are you really that heartless that you would harm an innocent child?” Sienna was revulsed.
“Are you really that damn gullible?” Macie said, laughing at her for believing anything different than what she’d shown her. “In this game. Feelings are a liability, that’s why I don’t have any. Just put the gun down,” Macie said, turning her head for a brief moment.
