Chapter 1 #3

“On the material you’ve been teaching, not because I want to fuck you.

” My brows pull together. Why am I bothering to waste my time arguing with this man?

“You know what? Fuck this. We have one week of class left, so I’m done.

I’ll be back for exams, but I will not be stepping foot in this classroom again.

I’m sorry you can’t handle being told no, but it’s not my problem that it sets off something inside your chauvinistic, perverted brain.

Go find one of the many other students you’ve fucked, maybe they can come give your… ego a stroke.”

Turning my back to him was my second mistake, not leaving when I should have was my first.

The moment his hand wraps around my arm, I yank my other from my pocket. My finger presses on the little button that releases the blade, and I’m about to jab it into his rib cage when the classroom door opens.

“What do we have here?” The sound of the newcomer’s smooth, blasé voice sends a shiver down my spine and right to my clit. My pulse picks up speed, replacing the quickly rising adrenaline with pure arousal.

My eyes snap up, and I nearly let out a pitiful whimper at the sight of him.

Wesley Shaw.

One of the three men who literally own my very being. Not that he knows that.

Mr. Robinson’s hand drops from my arm instantly. “Mr. Shaw, what brings you here?”

Wesley’s emerald eyes stay locked on mine, pinning me in place. Fuck me, he’s so damn hot it’s not fair.

His wavy, rich brown hair is disheveled, like he’s been running his hand through it. A single strand flops over his forehead, and my fingers itch to reach up and twirl it around them.

His unpredictability is one of the many reasons people fear him. And while he’s never given me a reason to be terrified of him myself, I am. In the most fucked up way, my fear of him makes my nipples hard and my core slick.

Behind his round, wired glasses, he raises a brow, as if he’s asking if I’m okay. I don’t say anything, just blink, unable to form words with my mouth in his presence.

When he pulls his gaze from mine, I take in a shaky breath. I hadn’t realized I stopped breathing until our connection severed and his hold over me broke.

“It’s none of your fucking business why I’m here.” He leans his right shoulder against the door frame, his free hand reaching into his pocket to pull out a pack of cigarettes.

No one says a word as he taps the pack against the palm of his hand before pulling a cigarette free and placing it between his lips.

Tucking the pack away, he brings out a lighter next.

His eyes remain on Mr. Robinson as he flicks the metal flip-top open and strikes the flint wheel to ignite the flame.

He brings it to the tip of the cigarette and lights it before inhaling.

I watch the embers crackle before dragging my eyes up to his face again.

A billowing cloud of smoke pours from his lips as he blows it right into the face of the man behind me.

“You can’t smoke in here,” Mr. Robinson scolds as he coughs. I find the smell of the smoke oddly settling.

“I can do whatever the fuck I want.” His once bored tone shifts to one of amusement.

“I own this fucking town, and everyone in it.” Wesley takes another drag before refocusing his attention on me.

He pushes off the door frame and takes a step into the classroom, but I don’t dare take a step back, which forces his body flush up against mine, and boxes me in between the two men.

My heart hammers against my ribcage, and my whole body flushes with need. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this close to him. My head spins, and I fear I might pass out soon.

He lifts his head again, but his eyes stay on mine as he blows another stream of smoke right into Mr. Robinson’s face again.

“Run along, Little Rabbit,” he drawls in a low tone. “I have business with Mr. Robinson that doesn’t concern you.” With that, he takes a step to the side, giving me enough room to pass.

It takes a moment for my brain to catch up, but once it does, I stumble forward and out of the room.

I quickly retract my blade and shove it into my messenger bag. With my bag clutched to my chest, I hastily make my way down the hallway and toward the exit. I’m not sure why Wesley is here. He, Jasper, and Sylas all graduated three years ago, but sometimes I see them lingering around campus.

Well, I’m not exactly surprised to see him, especially in a moment like this. They’ve always had a way of protecting me, although I’m not sure why. Besides Sylas’ occasional flirty comments, I haven’t had a conversation with them in years.

Still, they made it their mission to make sure no one messed with me.

I’m almost positive it’s because my father plays an important part in their family’s businesses, and therefore, they keep an eye out for me out of respect.

My delusional brain has convinced me it's because of the friendship we once had as kids, and that they’re secretly in love with me.

Let a girl dream, okay? It’s all I have going for me in the love department… or lack thereof. It’s not like any other man has interested me anyway.

For as long as I can remember, my heart has only wanted three guys. Three guys I have no chance in hell at ever having.

Life is a cruel, hard bitch.

That doesn’t stop me from living my own little fantasy. And that little hint of cigarette smoke mixed with his cologne will be the fuel for the newest chapter of the delusional world I’m living in.
