Chapter 19

CHAPTER

NINETEEN

NOLA

As I flick through the different news channels, I start to grow more and more annoyed. Nothing. There’s been nothing about the girl I killed at the party the other day.

I thought maybe they would need a few days to figure out what they would tell the public, but it’s been four days and nothing.

It’s as if I never even slit a girl's throat and left her body there for everyone to see.

I’ve texted Callie and asked her if there was a chance that maybe no one had found the body yet, and she’s still lying there on the ground next to the house. She went to look, and the body was gone.

So what the fuck is going on? Are they hiding this, trying to cover it up? Why would they? To them, it’s just some crazy person out there murdering young girls. They have no reason to cover it up.

With an annoyed sigh, I shut the TV off. Tossing the remote on my bed, I head downstairs for something to eat before getting ready for classes.

“Dad!” I start when I step into the kitchen.

I already know Mom isn’t home. She wakes up at six every morning and walks around the park with her friends, so I don’t bother trying to be discreet.

“Did you hear anything from your buddy at the police station?” I lean against the kitchen island, grabbing an apple from the bowl and taking a bite.

Dad lowers his newspaper, shaking his head. “No. Nothing.”

“Is he just not telling you, or do they really have nothing to report?” I narrow my eyes.

He raises a brow. “Don’t get snippy with me,” he teases menacingly. “He’d have no reason to lie to me, Nola.”

“They would have found the body by now, Dad. He knows something. He’s just not telling you.”

“Nola, where did you leave the body?” he asks, crossing his arms as he leans back in his seat.

“Where I killed her.”

“And where was that?”

“The side of Sylas’ house,” I tell him. “Why?”

He lets out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes. “That’s why no one has heard anything.”

“Dad, I swear I’m five seconds away from losing my shit. Tell me, please. Because what’s the point of trying to build a name for myself if no one sees my work!?”

“Honey, you left the body on Sylas’ property. Sylas. One of the leaders of the Brotherhood. What I can only assume was that one of your guys found the body. And because they won’t want that girl's death to be linked to them in any way, they most likely disposed of the body themselves.”

Realization settles over me. “Ooooohhhh.” I grimace. “Fuck. I didn't even think about that.”

“They have keys to one of the morgues across town. We have a deal that they’re allowed to use it, if I’m unavailable to help.

They most likely didn’t want me or anyone else to know about it, because it wasn’t planned by them.

They’re probably not very happy about it either.

You wanted them to know about the Butterfly Killer, now they know.

And if I know anything about those three, they’re going to want to find out who it is.

So, be careful because this could all be over before you want it to be. ”

“Damn,” I hiss, shaking my head. “Stupid, stupid, stupid.” I pace the floor, hitting myself in the head with the heel of my hand.

“Stop it.” He grabs my wrists. “You’re not stupid. You just need to think before you act. What did you learn from this?”

I chew on my lip for a moment before answering. “Not to leave the body where the Brotherhood can find it. To move it to another location where someone else will.”

“There we go. That's better. Next time, take the girl away. Or leave your calling card somewhere else.”

“Got it.” I nod. “I won’t make that mistake again.”

“That's my girl.” He grins with a proud smile. “You’re growing up so fast. I’m so proud of you.”

“Thanks, Dad.” I wrap my arms around him, giving him a squeeze.

“Now, I gotta go to work. Be good. Stop worrying so much about this one. At least they know about her, so it wasn’t all for nothing.”

“She deserved it.” I shrug. “Even if I don’t get recognition for her death, it needed to happen anyway.”

After Dad leaves, I quickly make myself something else to eat. Once I’m done, I head upstairs to finish getting ready before I have to leave for school.

“You know, Skittles, I wish you could talk. Then maybe you could have warned me that leaving the body on their property probably wasn’t the best thing to do,” I tell him, brushing out my hair.

He cocks his head to the side, perched on his little branch stand I made him.

“Have you found out anything interesting? I swear you’ve just been off doing your own thing these days.

How am I going to know what's going on if you’re not following them?

” He lets out a caw, flapping his wings.

“Rude,” I gape at him. “I would do it myself, but they’ve been busy. I can’t get inside their company buildings, or any building to do with the Brotherhood. No way I’m risking getting caught. And I’m not going to have Dad bail me out of everything. I can’t put his partnership with them at risk.”

He makes a few more noises, and I roll my eyes. “Well, at least I have the cameras in their rooms now. Not sure what good that will do, seeing how they’re hardly ever home.”

I did, however, get some good footage over the past few days—mostly of them sleeping, but ugh, they are so cute when they’re dead to the world.

It’s like their hard masks fall and the softer side of them comes out when they are unconscious. I found out Sylas sleeps naked and moves a lot in his sleep, so I got lots of full-on views of his toned, firm ass and thick cock.

Wesley snores. Not loud and obnoxiously, but these cute, adorable little snores.

And Jasper sleepwalks. Kind of? There's no actual walking involved, but I have looked back on footage to find him just sitting up in his bed, staring at nothing, sometimes for ten minutes at a time.

Not sure what’s up with that, but he looks stressed, maybe worried? I wouldn’t blame him. He puts a lot of pressure on himself to make sure everything in his life runs smoothly.

A niggle of guilt sweeps over me at the fact that I’m not doing anything to help that.

They have probably been losing their minds, wondering who killed that girl on their property.

“Doesn’t matter right now because I need to get to school,” I sigh, tossing my hairbrush down onto my desk.

I grab my backpack from the chair and bring it over to the bed, where I left my laptop open. I was checking the footage when I woke up, but from the looks of it, everyone had already left for the day, their beds already empty and made.

I’m about to close it and put it in my bag when someone on the screen catches my attention.

“Oh my god.” A smile creeps over my lips as I take in the sight before me on the screen. “Finally, something good.” I giggle, clicking the mic button so I can hear.

The sound of a masculine male grunt has a shiver racing down my spine. My eyes are glued to the screen, transfixed on the way Jasper works himself over.

He’s leaning against his desk, butt-naked with his hand wrapped around his cock. His head is bowed, his body angled so that I can see the way his back muscles ripple with every jerk of his cock.

I can’t see the cock in question, unfortunately, but I can see how his arm moves faster and faster.

His breathing grows heavy, and the hand he has on the desk that's holding him up curls into a fist.

I bite my lip with arousal, my core aching and my nipples tightening as I clench my thighs together.

I’m debating on sliding my fingers into my jeans and getting myself off while he does the same for himself.

Unfortunately, I’m already late to the party because Jasper is close to his orgasm.

He grunts out a curse, and a moment later, he lets out a long, sexy groan.

I do my best to zoom in, but all I get is a few shots of his cum shooting out and covering his desk.

It’s still hot, though.

When he’s done milking every last drop out, he stands up, chest heaving with the workout he just gave himself.

I watch as he walks into the adjoining bathroom, eyes locked on his tight ass and tattooed back.

“Damn it!” I whine. “I missed all the good parts.”

Grumbling, I close the laptop and shove it into my bag. “I’m going to have to get back into that house and put more cameras all around their room. That way I can see them at any angle,” I complain to Skittles.

He lets out a chiming sound, tilting his head to the side.

“Are you sure they haven’t been to the cemetery lately?

As much as I hate seeing them with another woman, I’d love to watch them at work.

Trust me, Skittles, nothing is hotter than those three demanding their pleasure.

Watching them get lost in the moment, the way they become lost to it all, and when they cum.

Fuuuuck,” I sigh. “The looks on their faces alone are pure porn.”

Skittles just blinks at me.

“You’ll have to take my word for it,” I tell him, giving him a head scratch. “Now, go see if they're making any pit stops or heading right to school. Hang around if you can.

Skittles caws before taking off out the open window.

Now it’s time for school. I’d have to say, it’s a pretty good start to my day. Helps me feel a bit better about the failed attempt at getting my name out there.

There's always next time.

“Shit,” Callie groans. “I didn’t even think about that.

No, that would make a lot of sense. I know my brother, and if they found her body after a party at their house, then he’d work to get rid of it so nothing came back on them.

I’m so stupid. I didn’t even think of that in the moment.

I was too wrapped up in finding out my best friend was a serial killer. ”

“An up-and-coming serial killer,” I correct her.

She rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling. “Girl, you killed three people. By definition, that officially makes you a serial killer.”

“You’re right.” My face lights up. “Holy shit, I’m actually a serial killer. This is so exciting.” I bounce in the driver's seat with excitement.
