Chapter 13

One Month Later

Things with Legacy and I had been going good.

Great even. I’d been working so hard these last few weeks, but today started my week off, and Legacy invited me to his home in Philadelphia.

Hanii’s last day of school was last week, so she’s officially out for the summer.

A few days ago, Jaz and her friend, Ashley, took Hanii to Disney World for summer vacation.

Jaz asked me at the last minute if Hanii could go, and honestly, I couldn’t say no.

My baby was so excited she could barely sleep.

Once she found out, she talked about it nonstop.

This was me and Hanii’s first time being apart, and lowkey I feel like I should’ve gone with them since it’s her first time at Disney.

But I was still working when they left, and there was no way I could get off on such short notice.

I’ve been thinking about flying down there for a few days just to spend some time with my baby girl and experience a little bit of Disney with her.

Knowing Hanii, she probably done spent all the money I gave her, and now working on her auntie Jaz’s money on snacks and souvenirs.

I smiled to myself just thinking about it.

Jaz was probably saying yes to everything and cussing when Hanii wasn’t around.

I was on the road on my way to Philly, so I decided to call Jaz to check in.

Jaz answered on the second ring.

“Girlllll, what yo ass want?” She was so damn dramatic.

“Hush. Y’all just left me so yeah, I’ma call every damn day.” I laughed.

“How is Hanii?” I asked.

“Living her best life. Baby girl done met Minnie and Mickey asses and now she acting like she famous.”

I burst out laughing because this girl was crazy as hell.

“You gon’ leave my baby alone. She is famous. I’m thinking ’bout coming out there to spend some time with y’all,” I told her.

“Ahh hell nawl! You need to stay yo ass right there and be the BIGGEST HOE. If that nigga walk past swinging dick, hop on the peen. I’m not playing with you, Fev.

That man is interested in you. He’s shown up and not wanting anything in return.

Yo ass could be doing a good five for being a stalker, but he wanted yo crazy ass.

You can tell; and, he’s a keeper because he’s so good with Toots.

Girl when she called his ass the other night and told him that me and her wanted steaks, crab cakes, and lobster from Del Frisco’s!

’Cause baby you betta know I threw that lobster in to see what Toots could get for us.

Baby girl worked her magic and we ate good hunny while we watched Bad Boys.

Annnndddd Toots was on the phone with him this morning and this trip has been reimbursed, babbbbbyyyy!

We love that nigga,” she said, and my mouth was wide open because what!

Legacy didn’t tell me that he talked to Hanii.

“OMG! Jaz stop teaching my baby to beg!” I told her.

“What! Paris Hilton was a beggar the moment her ass entered this world. If she can work her magic on us I’ma cheer her ass on to work her magic on that rich, fine, sophisticated specimen of a man.

I need my damn money back! We out here doing big things, shidddd I started to tell Hanii to call his ass back and tellem she wanted them damn box braids to blow in the wind and get us a convertible.

Anywho, let me get this girl so you can talk to her.

Toottttts, yo mama on the phone,” she yelled out.

“Tell Mommy to stop calling us and go kiss on Boyfriend!” Hanii yelled out and they both fell out laughing hard as hell.

“What! That little one is giving too much grown folk behavior for me,” I said, trying not to laugh because Hanii knows I don’t play with her.

“You just mad ’cause she ate yo ass up with that one.

Stay home ’cause I think you gon’ mess up our good thing we got going with boyfriend, and if you see Toots calling him, don’t be a hater and block our blessings.

Now bye!” Before I could get another word out she hung up.

I shook my head and turned my music back up.

Before I knew it, I was pulling up to Legacy’s gate and entering the code he gave me. He told me once I used it, the code would no longer work, and for some reason, that made me smile. Everything about him said that he was a private man and in control of his life.

My goodness. his artistry was clearly doing him well.

When those gates slowly opened, I finally got a real view of his home, and my breath damn near caught in my throat.

The quick glimpse I got months ago when I drove past here was nothing compared to seeing it up close and personal.

This man was living. I slowly drove up the long driveway, taking everything in.

The mansion sat back away from the street to get on to his property and the landscaping was to die for.

When I finally parked, I grabbed my bags and headed to the front door.

Before I could even fully ring the bell, the massive door opened.

“Good afternoon, Ms. More,” the housekeeper greeted. “Mr. Porter will be down soon, he’s on a business call. I’ll show you to your bedroom so you can put your things down, and then you can wait for him in the family room.”

“Okay, thank you so much,” I replied.

The second I stepped inside, I felt underdressed for the damn house, and that’s some crazy shit, but I did because everything in here took my breath away.

The enormous chandeliers hung from the ceilings and was so eye catching.

It was decorated in neutral colors of beige, browns, and creams, with pops of burnt orange throughout that brought it all together.

I’m not going to mention the artwork. Oh my God!

Beautiful Black art lined the walls from end to end.

I already knew it was Legacy’s work, but what caught me by surprise is the painting he drew of me the night in the hotel, but I was a little taken back because he gave me that painting.

He must’ve did this one on his own. My heart melted because, not this man got me hanging in his damn house.

OMG! This man’s talent was truly out of this world.

The housekeeper led me upstairs, and as we walked down the hallway, I noticed a set of large double doors that were closed.

I could tell that the room with the double door was his.

There was a hallway and sitting area that separated that room.

But next to it was another door, and the housekeeper opened it up, and I almost lost a breath or two.

“Your room during your stay, Ms. More. We’ve already changed the bedding and everything on is brand new.

” This wasn’t no damn room. This was a whole suite, shit it could’ve been somebody’s apartment.

I stepped inside slowly and just taken away.

There was a full living room area with a huge sectional, a fireplace, and the television mounted on the wall had to be the size of the wall, and floor-to-ceiling windows, and a patio that overlooked the grounds.

The bathroom was something to see and I couldn’t wait to get inside of that jacuzzi tub.

The shower seemed like it was big enough to fit a family of five in there.

Everything in here screamed money. The balcony overlooked the massive backyard and grounds, and when I stepped outside for a second, the breeze hit my face softly.

I could live here forever. This was literally a woman’s dream.

I couldn’t believe this man lived here and that he wasn’t married or had a woman for that matter.

I walked out onto the balcony, taking everything in when I heard a soft knock at the bedroom door.

“Ms. More,” the housekeeper called out.

I quickly walked back into the room and opened the door. “Hey.”

“Mr. Porter is downstairs in the family room whenever you’re ready to join him.”

My stomach instantly started doing flips because I was nervous as hell to see him.

“Okay, thank you.” I smiled, and she nodded. I ran into the bathroom to check my appearance, I’m so glad I got a facial, and got my hair in a silk press yesterday.

“Girl, calm down,” I whispered to myself.

I finally left the room and made my way downstairs. As I got closer to the family room, I heard low music playing. He was sitting at the bar, and when he turned in my direction, I almost watered at the mouth. This man was fine. Tattoos adorned his neck, and arms.

“There she goes,” he said with a smile and standing from his seat.

“Heyy, you.” I smiled, genuinely happy to see him. For a long minute he just stared at me, and I looked away because this man made me so damn nervous. It felt like his hands were moving over my damn body and he didn’t lay one hand on me.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

“Yes, your home is beautiful.”

“Thank you, but the most beautiful thing in this house is the woman standing in front of me. I’m glad you could make it down. It’s been a while,” he said, pulling me in for a hug.

I laughed. “I just saw you last weekend.”

“That’s a while, Forever. Shit, the way things are going I wanna see you every day.

” He smirked. “Come have a glass of wine with me, baby.” For the next few hours, he showed me around the house, and we sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

His pool was big as hell, and I couldn’t wait to get inside.

He even had a hot tub. Later that night, we went to dinner.

I wanted soul food, so we went to this place called Lola’s and the ambiance inside was so nice and it was Black owned.

Once we were seated the waitress came and took our food and drink order.

“This all sounds so delicious. They have seafood egg rolls and soul food egg rolls. It’s hard to decide.” I looked up at him.

He laughed. “Order whatever you want, baby.”

He didn’t have to tell me twice because I did just that.
