Chapter Thirty
Ryker
I’m regretting making the deal with my father to go golfing every Thursday. I got absolutely no sleep this morning after we got back to Brynne’s house. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how she felt wrapped around my cock. There was a pang of jealousy when Matteo got to carry her the whole way home. I expected for us to all sleep with her in her room, but Matteo dropped her off in her bed. Damon sat in the chair in the corner of her room to keep watch and we were to make sure no one came into her house.
Nothing looked out of place outside since my car was in the garage. I don’t know if this means the guys are going to be staying at her place now or still at the motel. I still have my apartment, but I’ve rarely been there this past week and I know my father is going to wonder where I’ve been.
“Theres my son. I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages,” my dad jokes, but I know he is pushing me along to explain my absence.
“You saw me last Thursday,” I say. He raises his
eyebrow at my dismissal. “I’ve been at a friend's house,” I half lie. This piques his interest and he waits for me to elaborate but I’m not telling him about Brynne. She can be my dirty little secret for all I care.
“The friends you can’t tell me about? You know I could put personnel on you to make sure you’re not doing anything stupid right?”
“Yes Dad, but I've told you before, I’m not doing anything to make you look bad.”
“Your mother is joining us today so be on your best behavior,” he raises his eyebrows. “That means no fucking waitresses in the closet,” he adds.
That will never happen again. After having Brynne, I don’t think anyone would remotely come close to how she made me feel. I already can't wait to leave and go back to her house. I’m jealous that the guys get to spend the day with her and I’m stuck here. If my mother is going to be joining us then today will turn into an all-day and night event with a fancy dinner. My mother takes advantage of all the amenities of being a club member.
“ There are my boys,” she says from across the room.
My father turns around and kisses her cheek.
“Hey mom,” I say with a hug. She looks out to the
course and her eyes light up. My father doesn’t include her in a lot of things we do and sometimes I feel bad for her. I should be spending more time with her, especially after Riley’s passing. I’m the only child she has now and she must feel lonely being by herself at home while we go do things like golfing every week.
My dad makes sure she has funding to do whatever she wants but she isn’t the best at hiding her emotions and I know she misses us. All of us .
We grab our clubs and head out to the course to meet up with my father’s friends. They're waiting for us with their wives as well. I’m the only one without a partner. Great. Brynne pops in my head and I have to hide my laughter. I couldn’t picture her golfing ever, but I also didn’t picture her as a woman to have an actual torture room in her basement. She continues to surprise me and that’s what excites me about her. It's like a new puzzle piece with each tad bit of information I learn about her. I can't wait to have every piece to know the true Brynne Thronton.
“Hey Rebecca, it's so nice to see you could join us,” Caroline Westmoore says. My mother perks up when she sees the ladies. She hangs out with them on occasion, but I’m hardly home to notice if these are the only friends she has. Guilt punches me in the gut, I’m an awful son for leaving her alone. Riley’s voice echoes in the back of my head telling me that it's not my responsibility to make sure she isn’t lonely, it’s my father’s.
We start at the hole and I catch a glimpse of the conversation between my father and his friends and interrupt. “You're leaving?” I ask him. He turns toward me and pats my shoulder.
“I thought your mother would have told you, but I’m going away for a week on business,” he explains.
“All you men and your business trips. I swear they're just excuses to get away from us,” Suzan Featherstone jokes.
“You can hold down the fort when I’m gone right?” my father says in a fatherly tone. The other guys smile at this sweet father-son interaction.
“Sure thing,” I nod to try to get the attention off of me. Then the ladies join us and I get overwhelmed. I don’t want to be here pretending life is this happy go lucky bullshit when there are awful people out there living that deserve to die at my hand.
“Ryker you're up,” my Uncle Danny says. He’s not my real uncle, but he’s been friends with my father since they were kids. Riley and I always called him Uncle Danny. I grab my club and swing, wishing for today to go by fast. I need to be inside Brynne again.
