Chapter 36 Bardy

BARDY

The worst is death, and death will have his day.

He sits on the bench on one of the pathways that dissect the area around the hospital.

There seems to be no logic to these walkways, a labyrinth.

But the staff still come and go, walking with purpose and the sure knowledge of where they are going.

He is oblivious of the drizzle, just wondering vaguely why they put a bench here in such an odd spot.

For people like him who had lost the ability to move on and who just needed to sit and stare?

Everything is canceled.

The group meeting.

The trip to the gallery.

Luigi’s: Closed.

Finn’s café: Closed.

He wonders if Kate is still going to see King Lear. It hardly seems relevant. It all ends in death anyway. That’s the truth of it.

A life lost.

He looks up and sees Tay and Hana walking toward him. He is conscious of wondering how they found him. He would get up, but he is too damn tired. He has no idea how long he has been in the hospital, how long he has been on this bench.

They sit on either side of him. Tay close but not touching. Hana taking his hand.
