Chapter 4 Isla

ISLA

I can’t stop thinking about him.

And that kiss.

The man has a talented mouth.

But how dare he kiss me like that? I could have lost my job if anyone saw that.

Luckily, Liz takes over a few of my patients when one of the doctors needs my assistance, so I don’t have to go back and face Skull.

Apparently, my luck runs out, though, because as I’m walking to my car to head home, I see Skull watching me, leaning against a motorcycle. He has one of those leather vests on this time, and I find myself walking over to him, wanting to have the last word.

“Good morning, beautiful.” He grins, giving me a slow once-over. “You want a ride?”

His words only anger me more. I step closer to him, so his leather boots are touching my black sneakers.

I don’t know what comes over me, but I pull his head down and kiss him.

One of his hands grips the back of my neck, while the other one lands on my hip.

He takes control, lifting me against his bike.

My legs wrap around him, my pussy pressing against the solid length in his jeans.

I don’t know how to describe the kiss or how it makes me feel. There’s heat, yes, and a lot of tongue, but something about it is different.

“That was quite the greeting.” He smirks, licking his lips. “I’d love nothing more than to fuck you right now, little nurse, but I have to get inside. Why don’t you follow me? I’m sure we can find somewhere we can be alone.”

He spins me around, and my feet hit the ground.

Then his gaze lifts over my head, and his brows furrow before he laughs under his breath. “Okay, now this makes more sense.”

“What does?” I ask, placing my hand on his chest.

“Why you threw yourself at me,” he replies, giving me a slow once-over. “You are just his type.”

“Whose type?” I ask, frowning.

“If you wanted to fuck both of us, Isla, you should have just said so,” comes a growl from behind me.

I spin around to see Skull standing there, his blue eyes narrowed, and his hands curled into fists. My eyes widen as I turn back to the man I just kissed. His blue eyes crinkle, dancing with amusement.

Identical twins.

There’s a plot twist I didn’t see coming.

Twin number two laughs under his breath. “Was that kiss not for me, sweetheart?” He lowers his lips to my ear. “Although I have to admit, my brother looks a little jealous right now. And that’s not usually how we play. What have you done to get him so worked up, little nurse?”

Ahh, fuck.

“Could have warned me there are two of you,” I say to Skull, wincing as I walk away from them. “Let’s pretend this never happened, shall we?”

Fuck my life.

I put myself out there for once, and I could not be more embarrassed. I threw myself at a stranger. This shit only happens to me. I just made out with not one but two brothers at my workplace.

How professional, Isla.

Skull follows closely behind me, leaning against my car door before I can open it. He smells so good, like leather and spice, and I just want to melt into him.

“What the fuck was that?”

He sounds angry, and I can see why. If he made out with my sister, let’s just say I wouldn’t be too happy about it, either. In fact, that would probably be grounds to never talk to him again.

Shifting on my feet, I try to explain myself. “I thought it was you. I was angry and going to give you a taste of your own medicine and kiss you out of nowhere.”

His lip twitches as he cages me in with his arms resting on the top of my car.

“Fuck, little spitfire, if that’s what you do when you’re angry, I’m looking forward to the next fight.

” He pauses and then lowers his face to mine.

“As long as you’re taking out your anger on the right twin.

That kiss was meant for me, and I want it. ”

“There won’t be a next time,” I declare.

“Oh, there will definitely be a next time,” he whispers, and a shiver runs down my spine.

I watch as Skull’s twin walks into the hospital. They must take turns watching over Natalia, which is really sweet. “We both better go home and get some sleep.”

“Your house or mine?” he asks, and I shake my head in amusement.

“Nice try.”

He opens the car door for me, and I slide behind the wheel, turning on the engine. I’m more than surprised when he suddenly leans over me to put my seat belt on for me. “You’re either a gentleman or a control freak. Let me guess, it’s the latter?”

“You have no idea,” he murmurs with a smirk. “Give me your phone.”

“Why?” I ask, arching my brow.

“I’m going to give you my number.”

Yeah, like I need that temptation.

“I don’t need your number, Skull,” I say, trying to close the door.

I need a heartbreak like him like I need a rent increase.

He simply studies me, something working behind those knowing eyes, before finally stepping back and gently shutting the door for me. “Drive safe, Isla.”

“Goodbye.”

“See you soon, little spitfire. You still owe me a kiss.” He makes it sound like a threat.

In my rearview mirror, I can see him standing there watching me drive away.

I’ve gone from not kissing any man in over a year to two in one day.

Twin brothers.

I don’t know whether to high-five myself or go into hiding. It makes me feel both a little better and a little regretful to know that I might not see them again.

See him again.

After a long shower, I hop into my king-size bed, my German shepherd, Layla, sleeping at my feet.

And when I dream, it’s about a kiss that made me feel something for the first time in a long time.

* * *

“Could I please have a slice of the Biscoff cheesecake?” I ask the pretty curly-haired blonde at the counter. After sleeping most of the day yesterday, I’m almost back to a normal schedule. It’s hard coming off night shifts sometimes. “Oh, and maybe one of the chocolate croissants.”

“Of course,” she replies, smiling.

This is the first time I’ve stepped into Lu’s Sweet Treats, and I have to say, the place is freaking adorable. Covered in pastel pink, I feel nothing but joy just standing here.

As if reading my mind, the woman says, “I don’t think I’ve seen you in here before. I’m Lu.”

“Nice to meet you. Isla,” I reply with a soft smile. “I just live around the corner and have walked by countless times with my dog, but this is the first time I’ve ventured inside.”

She places the bag with my desserts on the counter. “Well, I’m glad you finally made it inside. Is that your dog out there?”

I nod and look outside, where I’ve tied up Layla. People are giving her a wide berth, which makes me smirk. “Yes, that’s my beautiful girl.”

“She’s stunning.”

I beam, just like I would if someone were complimenting my child.

I hand her some money and take the bag. “Nice to meet you, Lu.”

“You too. I hope you love the treats!”

“I’m sure I will,” I say with a wave, turning around and almost bumping into a rock-hard chest. I look up and up and into a pair of cold steel-gray eyes.

“Sorry,” I mutter, taking a step back, while the man stares at me emotionlessly.

He’s got a shaved head and a sexy beard, not to mention the way his broad shoulders fill out his black T-shirt and his leather vest.

The same leather vest the twins had on.

Oh fuck.

His has a patch that says Road Captain on it, whatever that means.

Clearing my throat when he still stays intensely silent, I step around him and get the hell out of there.

Another man with curly brown hair is leaning against his motorcycle, talking on the phone, but his brown eyes are trained on me.

He’s cute.

What are they putting in the water around here?

Better yet, how come I suddenly can’t escape these toxically hot bikers?
