Chapter 32
Fiona told herself she was going to let it all go. She would move on, forget about Porter, and carry on finding a new place.
But first, she had to see it for herself.
She didn’t know what she expected to find at the space. But it was easy enough to drive past it on her way to work, so the next morning, that’s exactly what she did.
She decided to park out front and walk past quickly to get a better look. She didn’t want to risk Porter spotting her if she lingered too long.
It was a bright, beautiful spring morning, and the sunlight glared brightly off the windows. Fiona tried to casually peek in, but she still couldn’t see. She had to cup her hands around her face and nearly press her nose against the window to see what was going on.
She couldn’t see much inside. They’d already started covering the windows with paper, which meant someone was going to be working on something soon. Fiona spotted some paperwork in the corner of the room. It was hard to see, but it looked like a floorplan and some other documents. She took out her phone to try to zoom in for a closer look.
“Fiona?”
The sound of her own name caused her to drop her phone. David had stepped out of Hearth, and was quickly walking toward her.
Fiona had considered playing it cool for a second. But it was too late. She absolutely had to get out of there.
“Fiona, wait!”
She knew she looked ridiculous, but she didn’t care. She scrambled to pick up her phone, ran to her car and shut the door, not even glancing in the rear view mirror as she sped off.
