39. Chapter Thirty-Nine | Theo

Chapter thirty-nine

*Liam Callahan added Theo Smith-Harrington to the group chat: Poker Night*

Liam

Finn

Non-spy speak, please?

Me

How the actual fuck is that possible?

Liam

Someone planned this ahead of time. This was not random, she was targeted. And someone knew how to cover their tracks.

Ryan

Shit…

Jack

Were the authorities (or your people) able to find any prints?

Liam

The exterior driver’s side was spot clean, too clean in fact.

Not even Fred’s or any of his employees that worked on her SUV before it was parked waiting for Sav.

And for those of you curious, the squirrel was deceased prior to its blood being used as ink.

It was likely roadkill as its injuries were consistent with being hit by a car.

Me

…Did you have an autopsy done on the squirrel? I thought you were being dramatic when you said you would do that.

Jack

You’re new around here. Liam doesn’t really do dramatic. Extreme? Yes. Overbearing? Yes. Dramatic? Not typically.

Finn

Like any of us have any room to talk when it comes to being extreme or overbearing.

Walker

I prefer thorough.

Ryan

And we should consider the method of the squirrel’s death as… good news ?

Liam

It’s better than someone hunting down the animal with the intent of killing it, so it’s better news than it could have been. But it’s still not good.

Walker

I can loop in Harlow if you want her professional psyche opinion on this.

Liam

Thanks, but I already called her. Savannah doesn’t know that but I want to know who we’re dealing with here. Harlow is working on a profile, assuming this and the lock situation are related. Viv invited her to join their book club, and I know Harlow would be pissed if she found out after the fact.

Walker

I forget you know her outside of our connection.

Liam

She’s a good friend and she’s incredibly good at her job. If I could convince her to join my company and leave the bureau, I would in a heartbeat.

Walker

We’ve talked about this. I asked you not to poach my team members.

Liam

…And I haven’t since you made that request.

Walker

Let me know if I can do anything else. I haven’t told Viv yet, but I will when we get home in a few days. I appreciate you guys respecting Savannah’s wishes to keep this from her until then.

Jack

You know you’d be on the first plane back if she knew.

Walker

Trust me, it’s hard enough not wanting to do just that knowing myself.

Liam

I moved some things around on my schedule. I’m going to stay in the guesthouse at Sav’s until you guys are back.

Walker

Glad that sectional is a pullout couch, not sure you’d fit in Eloise’s bed and I doubt you’d want to be in our bed knowing how obsessed I am with my wife.

Jack

Nope. You conceived the twins with our baby sister by immaculate conception, asshole. We talked about this.

Walker

They may be a miracle, but not quite that kind…

*Jack Callahan removed Walker Bennett from the group chat*

*Ryan Callahan added Walker Bennett to the group chat*

Walker

You guys just wait. You’ll be simps for your women too one day.

Me

Already am, unapologetically .

Jack

Probably, but we talked about boundaries.

Finn

…Because we all respect boundaries with each other so well.

Liam

Jack

What he said.

Liam

That’s all I have for an update right now before Jack kicks both Walker and Theo out of the chat and we lose two players for poker night. I’ll let you know what Harlow thinks or if anything else comes up.

Finn

Do we really think Shane could do this? Dude was never our favorite but this?

Jack

I don’t know, and I hate not knowing things.

Ryan

How is Savannah doing today?

Me

I saw her an hour ago, she seemed more mad than freaked out. But I think pissed off is a better place for her to be mentally than being fearful.

Liam

The only one that should be afraid is whoever is behind this.
