Devyani stood at the doorway with her arms folded across her chest, watching the two men with complete disbelief. One looked ready to commit murder, while the other looked far too pleased with himself. She pinched the bridge of her nose before letting out a long sigh.
"Mr. Thakur," she said in an emotionless voice, "it seems you're perfectly fine now. You can leave."
The smile on RIVAN's face disappeared instantly.
He blinked at her dramatically.
"Leave?"
"Hmm."
"You've recovered enough."
She pointed toward the door.
"So... please."
For a brief second, RIVAN looked genuinely offended.
Then suddenly
He pressed a hand against his forehead.
"Ahhh..."
His face twisted in exaggerated pain.
"My head..."
He swayed where he was sitting.
"Ouch..."
"My head is spinning..."
Before anyone could react, his body tilted sideways as though he was about to collapse.
"RIVAN!"
Devyani instinctively rushed forward and caught him before he could fall off the bed.
Her hand immediately supported his shoulder while the other rested against his forehead.
"What happened?"
RIVAN slowly opened one eye.
His face looked unusually pale.
At least... he was trying very hard to look pale.
"I..."
He breathed heavily.
"I'm feeling..."
He paused dramatically.
"...very low."
He shut his eyes tightly.
"My head hurts..."
Then he placed a trembling hand over his stomach.
"And..."
"Ahhhh..."
"My stomach..."
"It's hurting too..."
His voice became weaker with every word.
"I don't think..."
"I'll survive..."
Standing a few feet away, Reyansh narrowed his eyes so much they were almost closed.
He looked from RIVAN...
To Devyani...
Then back to RIVAN.
Suspicion radiated from every inch of his face.
Meanwhile, Devyani's concern was completely genuine.
"Sit properly."
She gently made RIVAN lean back against the headboard.
"No..."
He whispered dramatically.
"I'll lie down..."
With the grace of a dying hero in a tragic film, RIVAN slowly stretched himself across the bed, one hand still dramatically resting on his forehead.
He even let out another painful groan.
"Ahhh..."
Devyani quickly adjusted the pillow beneath his head.
"Is it hurting that much?"
RIVAN nodded weakly.
"Y...yes..."
His voice was barely audible.
"It hurts..."
"So much..."
Her brows knitted together in worry.
"The fever has probably increased again."
She immediately reached for his forehead.
"It still feels warm."
Then she looked at him seriously.
"Should I call the doctor?"
RIVAN slowly opened his eyes.
He looked at her for a long moment before giving the tiniest nod.
"Hmm..."
"Maybe..."
Then, with the expression of someone carrying the weight of the entire world, he softly added,
"But..."
"Please..."
He reached out and lightly held the edge of her wrist.
"...don't leave."
"It's hurting..."
The simple request instantly melted whatever irritation remained inside her.
"Okay."
She nodded reassuringly.
"I'll just call the doctor."
"I'll be back in two minutes."
"You don't move."
RIVAN obediently nodded like the world's most innocent patient.
"Hmm..."
She hurriedly walked toward the door.
"I'll be right back."
The moment she disappeared into the corridor...
Silence filled the room.
Exactly three seconds later
Reyansh slowly turned his head toward RIVAN.
The two men stared at each other.
Then Reyansh folded his arms and deadpanned,
"Band kar drama."
RIVAN remained perfectly still.
Eyes closed.
Face full of fake suffering.
Reyansh walked closer and stood beside the bed.
"You..."
He pointed at RIVAN's chest.
"...are the same idiot who stitched his own wounds without anesthesia."
Another point.
"The same idiot who walked around with half his body cut open."
Another point.
"The same idiot who scared international businessmen."
He leaned closer.
"And now..."
He looked at RIVAN's face in disbelief.
"...sir dard se mar raha hai?"
RIVAN slowly cracked one eye open.
"You don't understand."
Reyansh laughed sarcastically.
"I understand everything."
RIVAN placed a hand dramatically over his heart.
"My acting deserves an award."
Reyansh snorted.
"It deserves jail."
Without another word, he picked up the nearby pillow and smacked it straight onto RIVAN's face.
"Mahaan nautanki."
From beneath the pillow came a muffled protest.
"I am a patient..."
"No," Reyansh replied with a grin.
"You're a professional fraud."
A few minutes later, Devyani returned with the family doctor walking behind her. The elderly man had been treating Sehgal for years, so no one questioned his presence.
RIVAN, who had been lying on the bed looking like he was on the verge of taking his last breath, immediately closed his eyes again the moment the doctor entered.
Reyansh stood in one corner of the room with folded arms.
His expression clearly read
Oscar-winning performance.
The doctor walked toward the bed and smiled.
"So, Mr. Thakur."
"What have you done to yourself this time?"
RIVAN gave him an innocent smile.
"I don't know, Doctor."
"I suddenly started feeling very weak."
"Hmm..."
The doctor raised an eyebrow but didn't comment.
He checked RIVAN's temperature, blood pressure and pulse before carefully examining the stitches across his body. Every time the bandage was lifted, the doctor's expression became more serious.
"You've put a lot of strain on these wounds."
RIVAN quietly looked away.
The doctor sighed.
"You are lucky none of these stitches have opened."
He prescribed a few medicines before asking RIVAN a couple more questions.
Satisfied that the fever was due to exhaustion, stress and the healing injuries, he finally stood up.
At the same time, Devyani excused herself.
"I'll bring some soup."
She quietly walked downstairs.
The doctor watched her leave before packing his stethoscope.
A few minutes later, Devyani returned carrying a tray with a bowl of warm soup and medicines.
"Doctor..."
She placed the tray on the table.
"How is he?"
The doctor turned toward her with a gentle smile.
"Miss Sehgal."
"He is suffering much more than he is showing."
Her expression immediately became serious.
"He needs proper rest."
"No unnecessary walking."
"Don't let him sit for long hours."
"The stitches are still fresh."
"If he keeps ignoring them, the healing process will become much slower."
Devyani listened carefully, nodding after every sentence.
"I understand."
The doctor continued,
"His fever is because his body has been under tremendous physical and emotional stress."
"He has pushed himself far beyond his limits."
"So from now on..."
He looked directly at her.
"He needs extra care."
RIVAN quietly turned his face toward Devyani, trying very hard to hide the smile threatening to appear.
The doctor wasn't finished.
"Regular medicines."
"Healthy food."
"Proper sleep."
"And..."
He paused dramatically.
"The most important medicine."
Devyani blinked.
"What?"
The doctor smiled knowingly.
"Love."
RIVAN immediately nodded with complete sincerity.
"Yes, Doctor."
"I agree."
The doctor chuckled.
"I'm serious."
He looked back at Devyani.
"Treat him with love."
"A lot of love."
"It works better than half the medicines I prescribe."
RIVAN's smile widened another inch.
He nodded enthusiastically like an obedient school student.
"Absolutely."
"I support the doctor's advice."
Devyani slowly turned toward him.
Her face remained completely expressionless.
Only one eyebrow lifted.
Then she looked back at the doctor.
"Oh..."
"Okay."
The way she answered made Reyansh cough loudly to hide his laughter.
RIVAN shot him an annoyed glare.
Ignoring both of them, Devyani asked,
"How many days will it take for him to recover completely?"
The doctor thought for a moment.
"Quite a few."
"His body needs time."
"But recovery doesn't depend only on medicines."
He looked toward the unconscious-looking patient again.
"It depends on how well he's cared for."
Then, lowering his voice slightly, he spoke with unexpected softness.
"He has gone through a lot."
"Far more than a body should endure."
His eyes returned to Devyani.
"So..."
"If possible..."
"Make sure he doesn't feel alone."
"Take care of him."
"With patience."
"And with love."
For the first time since the doctor had arrived, RIVAN didn't smile.
He simply lowered his eyes.
Something about those words settled heavily inside the room.
Devyani remained silent for several seconds.
Finally, she gave a small nod.
"Hmm..."
"Okay."
"I'll take care of him."
The doctor smiled with satisfaction before gathering his bag.
As he walked out of the room, Reyansh accompanied him to the door.
The moment they disappeared into the corridor, RIVAN slowly turned his head toward Devyani.
A shameless grin spread across his face.
"You heard the doctor."
She looked at him.
"Hmm."
"He said..."
RIVAN cleared his throat dramatically.
"...extra care."
"Hmm."
"...lots of love."
"Hmm."
"And absolutely no stress."
"Hmm."
He smiled even wider.
"So..."
"I think you should start by feeding me the soup."
Devyani stared at him for a full five seconds.
Then she picked up the bowl.
RIVAN's eyes sparkled with victory.
The next second
She placed the bowl directly into his hands.
"Congratulations."
"Your hands are perfectly fine."
"Feed yourself."
Reyansh's loud laughter echoed from outside the room while RIVAN looked down at the bowl with the expression of a man whose dreams had just been brutally crushed.
Barely five minutes had passed since the doctor left when the room slowly began filling up again.
One by one, the entire family walked inside.
Virendra.
Yashodha.
Payal.
Aradhya.
Rudraksh.
Even the servants standing near the door peeked inside curiously.
