17. Solomon #2
“Believing in God isn’t what you think it is, my love. I admit I stopped listening to songs like this after I turned my life around, but now, I have a reason to resonate with the lyrics.” I kissed her forehead. “May I have this dance, beautiful?”
“Yes, you may.” I took her hand and led her to the dance floor.
We danced for two songs before we decided to make a few plates to go. While making our rounds to bid my people a good night, I spotted Dominic talking to his cousin.
“I’ll be right back, baby. Give me two seconds,” I told Temple, then walked over to Dom and his cousin Truce.
“Fellas,” I greeted.
“Oh shit! What up doe, Solo!” Dom exclaimed, slapping my palm and pulling me in a hug.
“Nothing much, man. I ain’t seen you all night.”
“My bad. I’ve been making sure my girl don’t think she single for the night.”
We all laughed.
“Toxic as hell.” I shook my head. “Truce Stone, right?” I asked. I had only met him once at a building block party, so I wanted to make sure I said his name correctly.
“Yeah. What’s good, fam?”
“Life.”
“Dig that.”
“I came over because I remembered you throwing that block party a few years back. You still building?”
“Of course. Just finished building my wife and Lessyn a bigger dance studio downtown.”
“That’s dope. I need a home built for me and my wife. I want to get it done expeditiously.”
“Wife?” Dom questioned, shock written all over his face. “When the hell did you get married?”
“Word? To Temptress?”
“Don’t call her that, bruh. That name is now only reserved for me.”
He tossed his palms up in mock surrender. “No disrespect, my baby. I’m just shocked. Y’all are on two different sides of the coin.”
“Not anymore. You won’t be seeing her in Lucid no more.”
“Respect.” He held a hand out to me, and I took it. “Congratulations, bruh. If anybody deserves it, it’s you for sure.”
“Thanks, Dom.”
“Always.”
Truce chuckled. “Almost got your chest caved in, my G.”
“Nah. Solo knows I don’t mean no harm. We go too far back for me to disrespect this man.”
“It’s all love,” I replied, giving him a pound.
Truce nodded. “So, expeditiously meaning?”
“Meaning, I need it done in the next few months.”
“Take my number down. I’m in town for the next two weeks. We can meet up to talk logistics.”
I took my phone out, typed in his number, then bid them a good night.
I retrieved my wife, and we headed out. On the drive home, Temple leaned into me and laid her head on my shoulder.
“I had a good time tonight. Even though we didn’t stay long. I didn’t know you knew a lot of influential people.”
“There are a lot of things you don’t know, but it’s to be expected. Don’t worry though, my love. I’m going to tell you everything you want to know about my life and vice versa. We have our whole lives to learn and love each other.”
“You’re right.” She got quiet for a long moment, and I looked over to see her staring blankly out of the window.
“What’s on your mind, baby?”
“Nothing, I just . . . I feel like I’m in a dream and scared I’m going to wake up soon. I think it’s finally settling in that I’m married, and now I’m questioning if I made the right choice.”
I frowned and adjusted myself in the seat. “Can you explain what you mean?”
I could feel her eyes come to me. “Oh, this isn’t anything about you, babe.
It’s me. I’m scared that I may not be a good enough wife to you.
I have never been in love before, and this feeling both excites and terrifies me.
Seeing your friends with their wives, I could see the love between them, and I started to feel like .
. . I don’t know. Do you think we rushed into this? ”
“Are you having second thoughts?”
“No. I just don’t want you to feel like I’m not good enough for you. I don’t want to mess things up, and you decide to leave me.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Temp. I know it’s early, but when I married you, I vowed to always love, protect, and honor you. Don’t think too hard, baby. Marriage isn’t about being perfect. It’s about waking up every day and choosing each other.
“In the morning, we have a session with Pastor Daniels. After we leave there, we’re going to your family and letting them know about the wedding, and you all can start planning it.
Spare no expense, baby. Whatever your heart desires, I want you to have it because I want you to know it’s real.
That my feelings for you are real, and I want to make you happy. ”
“I want to make you happy too, Solomon. I don’t want you to feel like it’s one-sided.”
“Then don’t. Just you marrying me made me the happiest man alive. I love you, and as long as your love don’t change, we’re going to grow old together. Happy and still in love.”
She blushed slightly, then leaned all the way over and kissed my lips while grabbing my manhood. Before I knew what she had planned, she fumbled with the button on my jeans.
“Temp—”
“Shhh.”
“I’m driving, love.”
“I know. That’s what makes it even better. Get us home safely, big papa.” She relieved my mans from his holding place and wrapped those pretty lips around me while I tried desperately not to crash all the way home.
