Testimony of Scotty Kaplan
Conducted by Abigail Hoffman, Assistant District Attorney
Q. How did you know Frankie Callahan?
A. We met while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Q. How would you describe Ms. Callahan?
A. You mean, physically?
Q. If that’s the first thing that comes to mind.
A. Is that a joke? Because it’s unprofessional.
Q. What kind of person was she?
A. I don’t know. She seemed like a good person. I didn’t know her.
Q. You didn’t talk during the ten days?
A. Sure, we chatted. She talked more to Richard.
Q. I see.
A. I don’t mean anything by that. They just got along, that’s all. You know, I think they kind of came from similar backgrounds.
Q. What kind of background was that?
A. I don’t know—not rich? My wife is like that. It’s just…different.
Q. I see.
A. Whatever. She was a nice person.
Q. Did you ever meet with her after the climb?
A. Yeah, she needed some legal advice about someone who was harassing her.
Q. Did you give her that advice?
A. I tried. It was complicated.
Q. Was it your understanding that she and Mr. Falk were having an affair at that time?
A. I didn’t have any understanding.
Q. Did you think it was possibly true? You are under oath.
A. I thought it was possible, yes.
Q. Why was that?
A. They’d had some kind of chemistry on the trip and then I found out they’d seen each other in New York. It raised…questions.
