Another Him

She’s perfect, he thinks. A perfect, precious thing. Like a peach. A sweet peach, ripening just for him.

He watches her crunching the chip, wonders whether she really likes it, or if it’s just for show. For money.

Not that it matters.

He’s just glad he can see her again after all these months. Her smile. The way she tips her head when she laughs.

Bliss. Pure bliss.

He taps his belt buckle, curls his fingers around the smooth leather strap.

And he supposes he’s got Mrs. Clark to thank for bringing the girl back online. Yes, gratitude is due.

‘Thank you, honey,’ he murmurs at the screen. ‘You’ve made an old man very happy.’
