Chapter 14

FOURTEEN

Tunk

Me: Morning, baby, how are you feeling today?

I texted Lourdè like I did every morning but these last couple of days I had been checking on her mental.

That shooting had her in a bad headspace for these last couple of days and I hated that I couldn’t be the main person tending to her needs twenty-four-seven.

I was being patient, waiting for him to contact me before I went to him man to man about protecting my woman, his wife.

The news confirmed the shooter or shooters hadn’t been caught, meaning the threat was still out there and I didn’t trust him.

Queen Lou: Good morning, baby. Of course, missing you. How are you doing? Did you have breakfast yet?

I chuckled at Lourdè being herself and making sure I was good, even in her stress.

Me: I’m good, baby, knowing you good. Not yet, I just finished getting dressed. What you got a taste for?

Queen Lou: I got that covered. All I need you to do is to come prepared to give me a long, deep hug.

I double checked the message to see if I’d read her text correctly. Under normal circumstances I would never be caught creeping around a married woman’s house, but knowing what I did, I pulled up Lourdè’s location on my phone and headed to see my woman.

Me: On my way, Queen Lou.

For the last couple of days since the shooting, this muthafucka had been holding my damn woman hostage in the house with only people that he approved going in and out. She was never on the list to leave. I swore the nigga knew he was keeping her from me and I hated his bitch ass even more.

Twenty minutes later I was using a security code to access the gated community. Instead of getting out, I texted Lourdè to come outside. This wasn’t my shit and I didn’t need to be with my lady in this muthafucka’s house.

She came out in a dress that had her back completely out. One wrong move and either a titty would pop out or her ass would be on display.

Damn, nigga, and she did all this for you.

I groaned while I bit my bottom lip as I continued to admire all of her. I got out and welcomed her into my arms while I leaned back on the truck.

“Wait, you’re not coming in?”

I shook my head then turned to retrieve the flowers I’d gotten her and the food and coffee.

“No, baby, I have interviews all morning, but I’ll be back later. Sneak away if you can.”

Her bottom lip pouted, making me chuckle before I licked then bit it.

“I wanted to spend time with you this morning. It’s just me and I was going to cook for you.”

“Later, Queen Lou, I promise. Fix your face. You told me you needed a hug.”

“Yeah, one of yours that I give you.” That had me laughing with my whole chest.

“Oh, yeah, I definitely got you once I do these interviews. So climb out a window when I call in a few if that nigga is back home.” I leaned down, pecking the same pouty lips a few more times. The sound of my phone ringing let me know Naja was already at Boss’d Up and so was my first interview.

“I have to go, Lou. I love you. Oh and definitely wear this for me later. It’s sexy as fuck on you.” I slapped her ass, causing her to yelp just as a neighbor was walking by with their dog.

“These are my nightclothes. You were supposed to take them off me. But I’ll see what I can do.” One more kiss and I got back in my truck.

“I love you too, Chief, and thank you for the food and flowers.” She pranced back up the walkway toward her door, ass just jiggling the entire way which had my dick threatening to harden.

“Lawd, that’s not fair. I’m trying to do something right with this situation.” Lourdè turned and blew me a kiss, which I caught and put on the left side of my chest.

I watched her until the door was closed. I was in love with a woman married, and yet, I had to be patient until she could be fully mine.

I needed to find an escape plan for her because I was tired of these quick drive-bys and sharing her.

“I apologize for the wait. Thank you for coming in,” I said as I stood to greet the next interviewee.

The last guy went a little bit over, so I was running behind schedule.

So far I knew I had one guy picked for security.

I just needed one more bodyguard. I was going to play floater and fill in when needed, but I was trying to completely fill the roles so when Boss came back, he would just be the boss, letting his employees handle the stress of working while I managed everything.

It was crazy, but I wanted my friend to have an easier life.

After everything he’d been through, he deserves it.

And once he felt he had a handle on life again, he could move back if he wanted.

“It’s no problem. Thank you for requesting an interview.” I motioned for him to take a seat while I took mine as I put my eyes back on his information to make sure I said his name correctly.

“So, Najee Rameel, tell me about yourself. What have you been doing for the last year and a half?” He didn’t have any work experience listed but this was one of Naja’s people, so I knew he at least could handle a gun.

He released a light laugh. “I can’t speak on it too much.

So let’s just say, I worked for private clients, in fast paced environments, but nothing I couldn’t control.

I am a nice, clean shot. I’m silent, but deadly.

The client only knows I’m there when my gun shoots and by then I have the situation handled.

Stressful situations only drive my mood to move with extreme care.

When I say no enemy gets past me, I mean no one.

I shoot first and question if one bullet is enough.

Oh, and I can be a team player.” I laughed at him adding the team player part.

“Bullshit. Something tells me you were a solo member, but that’s okay too.

So if you worked for private clients, why the shift in direction for your career?

” I asked. I had a feeling I was getting the best wordplay for a job title no one would ever put down on a real job application, but I liked Najee so far.

“Honestly, I need something slower. When my sister Naja told me there might be an opportunity to be a bodyguard, I figured that was a call to action to cool down for a bit.”

“It’s a change of pace, um… not super slow, but busy.

The political side is basically covered, but I have opportunities with a couple celebrity clients if that’s cool.

The most drama they tend to experience are fans.

Crowds get hectic at times, so I doubt a lot of gunplay will be necessary, but it’s good that you already have the experience.

And I’m sure the pay will be a shift as well. Are you okay with that?”

He laughed as he nodded. “Yes, I’m okay with that as well.

Tunk, I know what I’m applying for. It’s not about the money for me; it’s about still doing what I love, which is protecting people from the bad guys while being able to make it home safely.

” I nodded, completely satisfied with his answer. I saw so much of myself in him.

“We’re going to need a few things before I can officially offer you the position.

You’re lacking a lot of needed training, it’s an easy fix.

I’ll get Naja to schedule your classes and everything else.

But are you free for the rest of the day?

” I wanted to hire him on the spot, but knew for someone with no former training or experience, Najee would need shadowing and training before I could leave him alone with clients.

“Yeah.”

“Cool, you can ride with me today for a potential client I’m hoping to put you with if all goes well. Of course it has to be a good match for you and her, plus her husband. Let’s head to pick up Oakley.” I was up and moving toward the door with Najee following me.
