Chapter 49 Story
Story
“Ineed you to keep it...” The receptionist policing William’s affairs stopped mid-sentence when Trooper and I bypassed her, heading toward his door as she tried to stop us.
“Excuse me, sir, can I help you with something?” I looked over at the woman approaching me as I passed her on the way to William’s office. She had been sitting behind her desk. When Trooper and I didn’t stop, she jumped up like a guard dog and headed our way.
“No, you can’t help me, but you can help yourself. Go back to your desk, sweetheart.” I winked at her and she looked at me in confusion.
“If you’d like to see Mr. Prescott, you’ll have to wait. He’s busy right now and I’m sure you don’t have an appointment because I didn’t log any for today.”
I narrowed my eyes at her and spoke calmly.
“Let me be extremely clear since you seem to be confused about what to do next. This is somthing you don’t want to get caught up in, so take your ass back to that expensive ass desk over there and continue pretending you have a purpose.
I can assure you I’m about to walk through that door and there ain't shit you can do about it besides get your feelings hurt.”
Her mouth hung open and I kept going. As soon as I reached William’s office door, I opened it and stepped inside, taking a seat in front of his desk. My eyes were on him the entire time. Trooper was behind me and he closed the door.
“You look confused, William,” I said calmly as his eyes moved from me to Trooper and back to me.
He hadn’t said a word yet, which I was sure had to do with the shock of seeing me as a free man. He damn sure hadn’t expected that.
“I should have known that bitch would betray me at some point. I’d be willing to bet she’s the reason you’re here,” he stated calmly, leaning back in his chair and locking his hands in front of him with his fingers intertwined.
I kept cool, even though his reference to Alana made me want to body his ass right where he sat. I couldn’t do that in his building filled with people who would be more than willing to say anything for him. Besides, his time was coming. This was just a warning for him to get ready.
“She was never loyal to you in the first place, so let’s just say she did what she had to do.”
“And she did it well.” William smirked like that meant something to me. Him being with Alana had no relevance to me because she never really belonged to him. He knew it just as well as I did.
“We’re grown ass men, so I’ll keep it simple so we are very clear on how I feel. There are a lot of reasons I’m going to kill you, but the main one is that you hurt my daughter. I made a huge mistake years ago, but I’m about to make up for that.”
“Hurt her? I would never personally hurt my daughter. Now that bitch you’re—”
Before he could finish his sentence, I was on my feet, yanking him from his chair with my hand firmly gripping his neck as I dragged his body across his desk. I squeezed as tightly as I could while he gasped for air, gripping at my hands, trying to free himself.
“Call her a bitch one more time and I’ll do another ten years just for the satisfaction of ending this shit right now. As for Sophie, playing house with Alana don’t make her your daughter.”
Trooper moved quickly and was right next to me with his gun aimed at William’s head, but I shut him down. This wasn’t the time or the place.
“Put that away. We don’t need that right now,” I said calmly, keeping my eyes on William.
Trooper hesitated, but did as asked.
“Let me say this nice and slow so you make no mistakes about what’s next.
It might be today, tomorrow, or even a year from now, but your life is mine.
For every second you breathe after I leave this office today, I want you to know I’m going to be the one who ends your life. I’m back and I’m claiming what’s mine.”
I let him go and he collapsed on his desk briefly before he regained control and was able to stand.
“Do you really think you can hurt me? I’m untouchable, you can’t do shit to me. I can make one call and have you arrested before you even make it out of this building.”
William glared at me while he rubbed his neck, causing a smile to spread across my face.
“Call your security. They can’t do shit to me because they can’t prove a gotdamn thing. It’s your word against mine. I was just dropping by to pay an old friend a visit. Keep your eyes open, William, or you’ll never see me coming.”
Trooper chuckled, then out of nowhere, hauled off and rocked the shit out of William. He hit him so hard William fell into the bookshelf behind his desk.
“And for the record, your ass ain't untouchable. I think I just proved my point.” Trooper grinned and headed toward the door.
I laughed at his crazy ass as we left William’s office.
This was only the beginning. William wasn’t going to call security because he knew that wouldn’t help him.
An assault charge wouldn’t do shit to save his life and he knew it.
At this point, the only thing he could do was try to kill me before I killed him.
Unfortunately, that wouldn’t work either.
When I said his life was mine, I meant that.
William Prescott had a price on his head.
“You’re giving him time to come for you,” Trooper said as soon as we were back in the car.
“It doesn’t matter. He can’t do shit. William is a pussy.
He’s too weak to fight his own battles, so the only thing he’ll do is try to figure out how to put me behind bars again.
Only difference is, this time he’ll try to make sure you’re there too.
I’ll handle him before he gets a chance to do that. ”
Trooper nodded and drove off. I had a short window to make shit happen with William before he figured out a way to get rid of me.
Right now, I needed to head home to Alana and find out how she’d even made this shit possible.
Until now, she had been avoiding that conversation, but today I would be getting answers.
The second I walked into the apartment I had been sharing with Alana for the past couple days, she was right up under me. Her arms snaked around my neck and her lips found mine.
“Where have you been?” she questioned with a soft smile.
“I went to see William.”
That changed her entire mood. Alana stepped away from me and just stared for a minute. “Why would you do that?”
“Why the fuck wouldn’t I? I know you didn’t think I would just come home and play house with you like he didn’t take ten years from me, Alana.” I quickly got irritated, not knowing if she was on the defense because she was worried about me or him.
“No, but pushing him isn’t going to solve anything, Sinclair.” She frowned at me and I chuckled and walked past her.
Pushing him was exactly what I wanted to do. I didn’t give a fuck about William and she knew that. I heard Alana behind me as I made my way to our bedroom but didn’t acknowledge her.
“Are you just going to ignore me?” she asked, almost demanding my attention, which caused me to turn her way and shoot her a look that let her know she needed to bring that shit down.
“First of all, ain't shit to solve when it comes to him. I’m home and that muthafucker is gonna die. I wanted that to be very clear.”
“You can’t do that.”
Again, my eyes were on her, and I spoke as calmly as I could. “I can and I will. There ain't a damn thing you can do to stop that either. Why does that matter to you?”
“It doesn’t. I don’t want any problems. I just got you back.”
“You don’t need to worry about that. I’m not going anywhere, but we need to have a conversation about what you did to make this shit happen. I keep asking and you keep dancing around that shit, so sit down and let’s talk.”
I pointed to the bed and she stared at me for a moment before she slowly moved in that direction and sat down. She was nervous and I needed to know why. I prayed she didn’t do something I couldn’t fix.
Needing to keep my distance, I moved to the dresser across from the bed and leaned against it so I faced her a few feet away. She watched me, but didn’t speak.
“I’m waiting.”
Alana tucked her lip between her teeth before she moved her hands down her thighs, watching them before she looked at me again.
“It’s about Harold.”
“Prescott?”
She nodded slowly and I just knew this shit was bigger than I assumed.
“How the fuck is he connected to me getting out of prison, Alana? That doesn't even make sense.”
“He’s not, well not directly. Sophie needed you. I needed you and didn’t know how else to make that happen, so I made a deal. I know things about William and his family. Mostly his father. I couldn’t be married to him for all these years and not find things out.”
“That doesn’t make sense. Why would they let me go?”
“Because it was the only way I would talk.”
“Fuck! Why would you go to them in the first place? You don’t know him, Alana.”
“I didn’t go to them. They came to me. I told them no a million times, then everything came out about you and Sophie. William threatened to do things to me and her when he found out. What else was I supposed to do?”
“Come to me is what the fuck you were supposed to do. You don’t need to be caught up in that bullshit. Harold has his hands in everything. Do you really think you can tell them shit about Harold Prescott they don’t already know, and even worse, without him finding out?”
“He can’t touch you. I made sure of that before I even made the deal.”
“It’s not me I’m worried about, Alana. That right there lets me know you don’t need to be involved in this shit. They don’t have to do shit to me. They can hurt me more by coming for you, Trooper, or even worse, Sophie. Do they know she’s mine and not his?”
She looked down and that told me everything I needed to know.
“Alana, look at me. What did you promise them? It had to be something big or they would have never let me out.”
“I have names, dates, and proof of his business transactions. William doesn’t know I had access to it, but I have enough information to get both of them locked up.”
I laughed deep and loud before my hand moved down my face.
“You don’t really believe that, do you?”
“Yes I do. Why wouldn’t I? It was enough to get you out and your deal is solid. I made sure of it. I can show you what I gave them.”
“Alana, that don’t mean shit. If they let me out because of that, they plan on trying to use me one way or another.
That’s the only guarantee that comes with that.
Prescott has been doing this shit for years, paying off the right people and killing those who refused to play nice.
They lied to you. They fucking lied. I don’t care what you gave them, that shit doesn’t mean a gotdamn thing. Fuck!”
She stood and moved toward me, but stopped short of touching me. “But they let you out, so it has to mean something.”
Alana had no clue how this shit worked, and even though she had been married to William all this time, she had no idea what his family was capable of.
More so his father. True enough he was just a man, so it didn’t really faze me, but he had his hands in shit that would make it difficult to stop him. Even for the feds.
“I’m not saying they don’t believe it just as much as you do, what I’m saying is it ain't gonna happen.
Why do you think that nobody ever did a gotdamn thing about your father?
You know who did it just like I know. The fucking cops told me it was Harold, but they also told me they couldn't do shit about it because of who he was. That was right before they asked me to snitch on his ass. I told them to kiss mine and kept it moving. The only way to stop Prescott is to kill that muthafucker. You just put that on me, whether you meant to or not.”
I read her thoughts without her having to say a word. She regretted what she had done, even if she was grateful that it’d brought me home.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly.
She meant it sincerely, but that didn’t change that she had royally fucked up.
Even still, she was my heart and I would do everything in my power to fix it.
If that meant killing the entire Prescott family, there wasn’t a question about what I would do.
I just had to figure out how to do it without ending up right back in the place I’d sworn I’d never return.
Reaching for Alana, I forced her into my personal space and exhaled as I closed her in my arms.
“I’ll figure it out,” I said as I lowered my chin to the top of her head while it rested against my chest.
“You just said you would have to kill him. Maybe I can—”
“Baby, let it go. I said I’ll figure it out.”
Removing one hand from her body, I used it to lift her chin so her eyes were on me. She looked nervous, so I smiled.
“Damn, I ain't been home but five minutes and you lost faith in me already?” A smile crept across my face, but her expression didn’t change.
“Things are so messed up.”
“You trust me, right?”
“You know I do, but…”
“Then let me figure this shit out.”
I kissed her soft and slow and she kissed me back. When I pulled away, I closed her in my arms again. I had no idea how I was about to make this shit happen, but I was keeping my family safe, even if I had to paint the city red to do so.
