Chapter 55

Trooper

“Ay, this fat muthafucker been inhaling food for the past hour. He the reason places like this don’t like to do all you can eat. This shit don’t make no sense, Los.”

I sat across the street from the Denny’s Rogers sat his fat ass in, pissed that he wouldn’t stop eating and take his ass home. I was ready to get this shit over with so I could head home and FaceTime Sophie. I was really missing my baby and he was fucking that up.

“Yo, you dumb as fuck. Inhaling food, Troop?” Los was laughing, but I was mad as fuck and dead ass serious.

“Hell yeah, inhaling. How the fuck you take down five plates of food in one sitting?”

“Nah, the bigger questions is how the fuck is he eating at Denny’s? That shit is nasty as fuck, yo. His system gon’ be all fucked up. You might want to reschedule, ’cause the second he looking down the barrel of your gun, that muthafucker gone have the shits something terrible.”

I shook my head at his stupid ass. Only Los would think of something like that.

“Bruh, why the fuck you put that shit in my head? Now that’s all I’m gon’ be thinking about until I body this muthafucker.”

Los laughed again. “Yo, you brought it up. You know my mind ain’t right, so you should have known better.”

“Your stupid ass,” I mumbled. “So what you looking like on your end?”

“I’m good. This muthafucker grocery shopping. It fucking sucks that he ain’t gon’ be around long enough to eat this. I almost feel bad I’m making him waste his money.”

“Then go tell him.” I smirked.

“The fuck am I supposed to say? Ay, bruh, just leave all that there and head home. I’m about to put a hot one in you, so you don’t need it?”

“Yeah, do that, then let me know how that work out for you.” I laughed just thinking about it because Los wasn’t too damn stable. His dumb ass would really do somthing like that and be mad as fuck when the person didn’t take him serious.

“Ay, I think he’s finally done, I’ll hit you back later. Clive and his people are waiting on us, right?”

“Yeah, he ready. Let me know when it’s done. Looks like you might be home before I am. I need a fucking blunt, real shit. I can’t handle this waiting.”

“Don’t fuck up ’cause your ass is impatient.”

“You worry about that fat muthafucker, I got this. What about your girl Willis?”

“What about her?”

“You know what, don’t play dumb. I know you fucked her too, but I ain’t gon’ throw that shit in your face.”

“I ain’t fuck her, Los.”

“Yeah, aight, so she just handing over info without getting nothing in return.”

I could tell his ass was smiling.

“I didn’t fuck her, that’s all you need to know, but I’ll handle her. Just not tonight.”

“Aight, do your thing and hit me up when it’s done.”

“Aight, bet.”

I ended the call and sat up in my seat watching Rogers as he left the restaurant heading to his car.

Just watching him walk irritated the shit out of me.

He was pussy. That right here was enough for me to shoot his ass, but knowing he was trying to turn me into a snitch and building a case against me and Los made that shit ever sweeter.

I just needed to get a handle on all of this because I was used to being in control, and right now, there were too many people who had a hand in what could potentially affect my future.

“How the hell did you get in my house?” Rogers asked when he entered his living room and found me sitting on his sofa smoking a blunt. I had followed his ass home, gave him time to get in, then followed him.

He headed straight for his bedroom and showered while I waited. Twenty minutes later, he entered his living room again, where I was.

“I think the better question is why am I in your house.” I kept my expression neutral.

My eyes were on him and his were on my gun. I lifted the blunt to my lips and took a pull before I released a cloud of smoke.

“I know why you’re here, but you can’t stop what’s already been set in motion.

None of you can. You’re all just pawns and you need to play your part.

I can promise you this though, being here in my house just guaranteed that after we fuck you for all the information you have, you’re still going to prison. ”

I looked at him intently then let out a cocky laugh. This muthafucker had to be getting a contact high ’cause he was talking extremely stupid.

“Yo, I don’t know if you really believe that or if you just trying to play hard, but let’s look at the facts.

Your fat ass is standing here in front of me unarmed.

Me, on the other hand, I have a full clip, and I don’t like your fat ass.

How you think this shit is about to play out?

” A smirk spread across my face as his ass started sweating.

“You really think you can kill me and get away with it? And it doesn’t matter if you do or not because you’re still going to prison. All of you. After we take down Prescott, you’re right behind him. Willis set it all up.”

Willis? Did this muthafucker say Willis? She acted like she didn’t have shit to do with it, now he was pinning it on her.

Now he wore a smug grin. “Oh, you didn’t know, did you?

I bet she told you she didn’t have shit to do with it.

Well, she lied. She’s the main one pushing this entire thing.

Willis wants Prescott more than anyone. She’s the one who secured the deal to get Story out of prison, had you and Robertson followed, and even more than that, benefits the most from all of this.

If she takes down Prescott, she’s guaranteed a position as director.

First female director in New York. This shit is personal for her.

It’s about her career. It don’t mean shit to me.

Trust me, I wouldn’t mind seeing all of you go down, but I don’t really gain shit from it because she’ll take all the credit. ”

Listening to Rogers talk about Willis and her agenda had my head all fucked up. How had I missed that shit? How had I let her play me like she wasn’t a major player in this entire thing? Fuck!

“Nah, I’m not worried about Willis. She’s next on my list, but this right here is about you.” I got my shit together and focused on the matter at hand.

“I can’t really do anything about that, but just know she’s playing you.

She needs Sophie to make all this work and she knows that.

Instead of focusing on me, you should be protecting her.

I bet Lewis is already on her way to get her.

You and Sinclair have the same weakness, if you haven’t already figured that out. ”

I stood and adjusted my jeans before I looked him in the eyes again. “I appreciate your concern, but Sophie’s good.”

“You sure about that?” he asked, looking right into my eyes.

“Yeah, muthafucker, I’m sure, but I’m curious. Why the fuck you having confession hour with me and you know you’re about to die?”

“Because if I’m to die, I want to make sure that bitch dies too. She’s the reason you’re here.”

That made sense, but if it were me, I still would have died with some dignity. Not snitch like a little bitch. Oh well, to each his own.

Raising my gun, I aimed it at his head. I saw Rogers brace himself for what was coming next. He said one last thing just as I pulled the trigger and a bullet pierced his skull.

“She knows where…”

What the fuck that meant, I had no idea, but it was too late for him to tell me. I left out the back, the same way I’d come in, and shot Clive a text with Rogers’s address. He sent back done and I called Sophie.

All that shit Rogers was talking had me questioning things and I needed to hear her voice to know that she was good.

“Hey, baby,” she sang into the phone.

Her voice brought a smile to my face. Not only was she good, but she was happy.

“Damn, you giddy as fuck, baby girl.”

“I shouldn’t be after you hung up on me earlier, but we miss you, so you get a pass.”

“I didn’t exactly hang up. I told you I had to go and your ass kept talking. But what do you mean, we?” I questioned.

“We, your baby and I miss you.” I could already see the big goofy ass grin plastered all over her face.

“Word, that’s what’s up. You good, though?”

“Nope, I’m miserable, but I’m counting down. You’re coming to get us this weekend, right?”

My hand moved down my face and I exhaled before answering.

I wasn’t a hundred percent sure about that.

Prescott and his son were still alive, and now Rogers had me thinking after his confession about Willis.

I needed to pay her a visit and find out what was really up.

Not that I even cared because she was gon’ die too.

“Hopefully, yes, but I don’t want to lie to you, Sophie.”

She was quiet, which let me know she wasn’t feeling my answer.

“Baby, I’m doing everything I can. I just can’t bring you back until I know everything is good. Can you trust me on that?”

“I do. I’m just ready to come home. I miss you.”

“I miss you too, but no matter how much I miss you, I’m not gonna risk something happening to you. So I need you to be patient, okay?”

“Is this about my father and William?”

“They’re part of it, but it’s real complicated. You don’t need to worry about any of that, just relax, take care of my baby, and enjoy the time with Maddie and your mom. Because when you get home, I’m locking you in the house for at least a week and keeping you all to myself.”

Sophie laughed, but I was serious as hell. I planned on being up in her twenty-four-seven for nothing less than a week to make up for the time we were currently missing.

“Trooper?”

“What, man? I’m dead ass.” I chuckled. “So you and your mom good? I hope you’re not giving her a hard time.”

“I’m not. We’re fine.” I could tell from the sound of her voice that me asking annoyed her.

“Sophie, her life is her own. Even the choices she made, so let it go. She loves you.”

“Oh my God, you and Maddie both need to stop preaching to me. I said we’re fine. We talked and we’re actually in a good place. You would know that if you brought me home.”

“Ay, bring that shit down a little bit.” I smiled, knowing she called herself checking me.

“Just hurry up and fix things.”

“I got you. I love you, Sophie, and I’ll call you before you go to sleep.”

“You better.”

“Bye, man. You gon’ get enough of trying to act like you run shit.”

“I love you too and I do. You know it and I know it. Putty in my hands,” she said, then hung up on me.

She was right, I was, but only with some things, which she also understood.
