36. Sawyer
Sawyer
I wasn’t expecting her.
I’d spent all day knowing she was coming home, that quiet hum sitting beneath everything else. We texted while I rode up the coast with Nina and Blake. Photos of the water. Her telling me she would land around five-thirty, maybe six.
I told myself I’d shower, eat something, and call her later. Like normal.
I was toweling off my hair when someone knocked. Not tentative or polite. Urgent.
My heart stuttered like it already knew.
I crossed the apartment barefoot and pulled open the door.
Addison stood there with her carry-on over one shoulder and her suitcase beside her.
“I couldn’t go home,” she said breathlessly. “I tried, but I couldn’t. I missed you too much.”
That was it.
I grabbed her jacket and pulled her inside. The door barely closed before my mouth was on hers. No hello. Just days of missing each other crashing together.
“I missed you,” I said against her lips, sliding my hands into her hair. “Fuck, I missed you.”
She kissed me harder, her fingers digging into my shoulders as her bag hit the floor behind her.
“I felt like I was going crazy,” she murmured, pulling back just enough to breathe. “Every time I picked up my phone, every time I laughed, I wanted you.”
“Bedroom.” My hands tightened around her waist. “Now.”
She nodded. “Yes.”
We barely made it down the hall. Clothes came off as we went, my shirt over my head, her hands fumbling with her buttons. Her pants in the hallway. By the time we got into my room we were in just underwear, breathless and desperate, as I pressed my mouth to her neck.
“I missed your mouth,” she whispered.
“Yeah?” My hands moved over her, warm and familiar.
She grabbed my hand and pressed it between her legs. Her underwear was soaked through.
Fuck.
“Can you feel how much I missed you?”
“Jesus, baby.” I pushed her underwear down and she stepped out of them completely.
“Sit.”
She did, and I dropped to my knees in front of her. I spread her legs and looked up at her.
God, she was beautiful. Pupils blown, lips parted, wanting written all over her face.
I kissed the inside of her thigh before settling between her legs.
She gasped at the first stroke of my tongue.
“Yes,” she breathed. “Don’t stop. Please.”
I breathed against her skin. “You’re so responsive. I love how you feel.”
Her fingers slid into my hair. “Sawyer.”
I pulled her closer and ran my tongue over her again, slower this time.
Her hips jerked against my mouth. “Fuck.” Her grip tightened. “Just like that.”
I kept going, listening to every broken breath and quiet moan. I had missed this. The taste of her. The way her thighs tightened around me. The way she said my name when she was trying not to lose control.
I pushed two fingers inside her.
She cried out, her back arching as I curled them. “Oh my God.”
“There?” I asked, even though I already knew.
“Yes. Right there.”
I wrapped my free hand around her thigh and held her open while my mouth moved over her again. She was already close. I could feel it in the way her body tightened and the way her breathing turned sharp and uneven.
“Baby,” she gasped. “I’m going to come.”
I looked up at her. Her head was tipped back, her lips parted, her chest rising fast.
“Look at me.”
Her eyes dropped to mine.
“Come for me.”
Her whole body tensed. My name broke from her as she came against my mouth, her fingers pulling at my hair while I kept going until her thighs shook.
“Stop,” she gasped, laughing breathlessly as she tried to pull me away. “Too much.”
I kissed the inside of her thigh before standing.
She reached for me immediately and dragged me between her legs. “Come here.”
Her mouth found mine, hungry and messy. She moaned when she tasted herself on my tongue, her hands moving down my back before slipping beneath the waistband of my underwear.
“I need these off.”
I stepped out of them, and she pulled me onto the bed. I barely caught myself before she rolled us over and settled on top of me.
“Addie.”
“I missed you too,” she said, kissing down my neck. “You’re not the only one who gets to prove it.”
Her hand moved between my legs, and I sucked in a breath.
She smiled against my skin. “You’re soaked.”
“Because I’ve had you in my mouth.”
“Good.”
Her fingers moved over me slowly, teasing.
“Don’t.”
“I thought you liked when I took my time.”
“Not after missing you for three days.”
She laughed softly and pushed two fingers inside me.
My head fell back against the pillows. “Fuck.”
“That better?”
“Yes.”
She kissed me as her hand began to move. I grabbed her hips and pulled her down against my thigh.
Her breath caught.
“That feel good?”
She nodded, already rocking against me. “So good.”
“You’re so good at this,” I breathed. “I love the way you fuck me, Addie.”
“I love fucking you.” Her fingers curled inside me. “You feel so good around my fingers.”
I moaned, my hips lifting into her hand. “Do that again.”
She did, harder this time.
“Fuck, yes.”
Addison rocked faster against my thigh while her fingers moved inside me. I held her hips and watched her use me, both of us falling into the same rhythm. It was hard to kiss. Hard to breathe. Hard to do anything but hold on.
Her forehead dropped against mine.
“I’m close again,” she whispered.
“So am I.”
My body tightened around her fingers. She moved faster, her hips grinding harder against my thigh as her breath broke against my mouth.
“Come with me,” she said.
I slid my hand between us and touched her where she was pressed against me.
Her mouth fell open. “Oh, fuck.”
“That’s it, baby.”
She buried her face against my neck, moaning as I rubbed her faster. Her fingers lost their rhythm for a second before she found it again.
“I’m right there,” I gasped.
“Me too.”
She came first, shaking against me as she cried my name. Feeling her fall apart on top of me pushed me over with her.
I gripped her hips as I came, my back lifting from the bed while pleasure rolled through me.
Addison collapsed against my chest.
For a while, neither of us moved.
Her fingers stayed inside me until my body stopped trembling. Then she slowly pulled them free and wrapped her arm around my waist.
I kissed the top of her head.
“Missed you,” I murmured.
She laughed weakly against my skin. “I think we established that.”
When I finally came back to myself, I was breathless and completely undone.
Addison was already curled into my side like she belonged there. She traced lazy circles over my chest while our breathing slowly evened out.
“Did you have a good time?”
“I had fun,” she said quietly, shifting closer. “I really did. I laughed. I drank too much. I let myself loosen up.” She paused, her cheek pressed against my chest. “But I couldn’t help but feel like a part of myself was missing.”
I tightened my arm around her. “And now?”
She tipped her face up, her eyes soft. “Now I feel like myself again. Like I finally landed back in my body.”
That hit harder than anything else she’d said. “Stay,” I asked, running my hand through her hair. “Go to work from here tomorrow?”
Relief crossed her face before she smiled. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
I kissed the top of her head and pulled her closer. Her leg hooked over mine, her fingers still moving over my chest like she had nowhere else to be.
We stayed like that until we both drifted off.
When I opened my eyes again, the room was dark. Addison shifted beside me with a sleepy groan and buried her face deeper against my shoulder.
“What time is it?” she mumbled.
I reached for my phone. “Ten thirty-eight.”
She made a noise like the time had personally offended her. “We accidentally took a nap.”
“We’re old now.”
She lifted her head enough to glare at me. “We’re not old. We had a long week.”
I laughed and kissed her forehead.
Her stomach growled. “That was rude,” she said looking down at her stomach.
“You’re hungry. We need food.”
“I haven’t eaten since brunch before the plane.”
I stared at her. “Addison.”
“I was busy.”
“You were traveling.”
“And recovering from being drunk.”
I shook my head and picked up my phone. “What do you want?”
“Fries.” She answered instantly.
“Real food.”
“Fries are real food.” She said. “Potatoes. Excuse me.”
Twenty minutes later, we were sitting cross-legged in my bed with takeout containers. Addison reached over and stole a fry from my plate despite having her own.
I smacked her hand away. “Eat yours.”
“They taste better when they’re yours.”
“That’s not how fries work.” I laughed.
“It’s exactly how fries work.”
She stole another. We put on Buffy after we ate. Or at least, I watched Buffy. Addison lasted about twenty minutes before laying on my chest. I could feel her getting heavy with sleep.
“You awake?” I asked softly.
“Mhm.”
“You sure?”
“Mhm.”
I smiled and ran my fingers through her hair. Thirty seconds later, her breathing evened out.
I finished the episode with my hand still running though her hair, just happy she was back.
It felt simple.
Not temporary or fragile. Just ours.
