Epilogue
At that same moment, deep in Sherwood Forest, a young woman clutched a baby to her chest, wheezing as she dashed from tree to tree.
Zel didn’t have long. Mother Rose Red was close.
She could feel her, even if she couldn’t see her.
She needed to find her way out of the woods and a way to support herself and Molly quickly, or she’d soon be back in her tower, and Molly would be… well, she didn’t know.
As the thought rippled through her, her braid snagged on a fallen log. “Ugh! Stupid spell,” she whispered, turning to free it without loosening her hold on her daughter. “That’s it, Maddie. We’re going to need to do something about this spell soon, or we’re going to be in trouble.”
All at once, the forest fell eerily silence. Zel’s eyes widened. That silence never boded well.
“Rapunzel! Time to go home!” Mother Rose Red’s voice floated through the trees, sending shivers down Zel’s spine. She got to her feet and took off. She wasn’t going back now. Never again.
