6. Kolson
“Did you find her?” I snap even before Isaac can make it up the last few steps, my temper rising by the second.
When I woke this morning, I hadn’t even realized she was gone. The thought that she would run hadn’t even crossed my mind. Why would it? People rarely go against what I say, and they typically don’t work so hard to avoid us.
It’s actually quite the opposite. Any other girl would have been tripping over themselves to have the chance to sit here with us right now.
So why isn’t she here?
“No.”
I knew what he was going to say even before he said it. If he had found her, she would be here with him, but she’s not.
I stand from the chair so fast that it topples backward, the loud crash echoing around the room, no doubt drawing attention. I don’t give a fuck, though. I make my way to the rails, peering down at the ring, gripping the bar tight enough that my knuckles turn white.
“Calm down, Kol. We’ll make sure she’s here next time. Our little sister can’t run forever.”
I ignore Jace calling her our fucking sister again as a wicked smile splits his face at the idea of hunting her down. I can’t say I mind it either, but we shouldn’t have to chase her.
She should be begging us to be here, grateful that we allowed Mother to marry her father and pull their asses out of the fucking gutter they lived in.
“She doesn’t yet know what being a DuPont means, but she will, brother,” Isaac says, coming up to stand beside me.
He’s right. She will learn—one way or another.
The lights dim, allowing the fighters to take the ring for their dramatic reveal, and when they go back on, my eyes lock on Vixen. She stands in the center of the ring, her head held high, ready to take on the fucking world if she has to.
Fuck me, what I wouldn’t give to know who’s under that mask, what she would feel like beneath me.
I think about it more than I care to admit. It would be so easy to go down to the rooms after a fight and see for myself. Fuck the rules.
My father established that rule to protect the fighters. He’s gone now. He left The Pit to us, to me, which means Vixen is mine.
I could easily keep her identity a secret; I only need one night. I’ve never spent more than one night with anyone, and she would be no different.
Just enough to get her out of my fucking head.
It sounds easy enough, but I know it’d be anything but. Not with Jace’s obsession with her, and Isaac might be quiet, but I’ve seen the way he watches her.
No, I don’t want to share her, but even if I did, my brothers wouldn’t be so quick to walk away. Jace is already obsessed with her. There would be no fucking her to get her out of his system.
Which means instead we get to pant after her like dogs every weekend.
The only woman who’s ever dared give me blue balls, and somehow I think she would be delighted if she were to find that out.
Her head snaps toward me as if she can feel my eyes on her. When our eyes meet, it's as if she lights me on fire with her gaze. The challenge is clear; her defiance so sweet, I can almost taste it.
As much as I would love to see how far my beautiful Vixen can bend before she snaps, I have another, less interesting and appealing woman to handle, because, though she isn’t Vixen, she is my responsibility.
She’s part of this family, and I’ll be damned if she doesn’t start acting like it.
She needs to fall in line, just like everyone else.
She had the chance to do things the easy way, but she chose not to. That’s okay, though. The hard way is always more fun.
