Chapter 3

Sitting in the darkness was starting to become like second nature.

One day, sooner than later, because that animal inside of me was losing his patience, I’d have her right next to me.

Breathless and sweaty, pressed against the wall of a building or tree, begging me so fucking sweetly for me to fuck her, chanting my name like a prayer, in that same darkness that currently enveloped me.

Tonight, though, I wasn’t in her bedroom.

I was just outside the library, where she was currently tutoring some hot-pink-haired girl.

I’d left about ten minutes ago after sitting at the table across the way from her while I studied.

The only reason I’d left was so I could get some fresh air and be outside when she walked out, since her tutoring session was almost over.

Not only did I sneak into her bedroom, but I knew her schedule down to the minute.

I glanced down at my hand, and it clenched into a tight fist at my side.

The feeling of her skin lingered beneath my fingertips.

It didn’t matter that I’d had weight training and then batting practice until my shoulders burned and hands ached.

I still felt the softness of her skin pulsing against my palm.

I still felt the way her body felt pressed close to mine as I wrapped my arms around her to stop her from falling.

God, she was so fucking pretty.

My hand dropped to my front as I adjusted my throbbing dick. I had no idea how the hell I’d held back from talking to her more than I had, from holding her closer to my body and swearing my allegiance to her when that damn hamper of hers got stuck and she’d almost fallen right on her face.

Shit, up close and personal like that, I’d been able to get a good lungful of her scent. The way the shampoo she used lingered and mixed with the lotion and body mist she liked to spritz on made my mouth water.

And when I’d kneeled in front of her to fix that damn wheel?

I felt like could read her thoughts. A new pink tinge hit the apples of her cheeks and her eyes dilated as her mind probably conjured up dirty little scenarios that could lead me to being on my knees.

It had been magnificent. She was magnificent. And mine.

Sadie might be a good girl on paper and from everything I’d seen, but I’d had a friend of mine hack her Kindle. I’d scoped out her bookshelf. I knew my little bird had a naughty smutty side.

Like a breath of fresh air, I breathed easier as I spotted her coming out of the library.

Not that I could ever miss her anywhere she might be.

To me, there was no missing that gleaming dark brown, almost black long hair that shined under moonlight.

Or that face of an angel and body of a goddess ready to tempt me into following her through the gates of hell.

My little bird laughed at something the pink-haired girl said, and I hated that I was too far away to hear the sound of it.

They hugged and she started to make her way towards me.

Hey, beautiful. I would grin and wink as she approached, and she would sassily roll her eyes. Not because Sadie was regularly sassy with anyone, but because she’d be comfortable and trust me enough to be herself with me. Just me.

I could make out the whole moment in my head, playing out like some scene in a movie.

How we would greet one another. I’d take that heavy backpack from her and toss it over my shoulder.

She’d try to argue, tell me how capable she was of carrying her own things, but I would just lean down and kiss her, telling her that’s what I was for, and she’d let me.

Our hands would tangle together, and I’d smile on the inside knowing she needed me as much I needed her before asking her what she wanted for dinner.

Not that I could actually do that right then and there.

Not without her freaking out and probably screaming for help.

Shit, she didn’t even know my name. Sadie was clueless to who I was.

And fuck me, okay, so maybe, maybe, the first time I’d passed by her without her seeing me, recognizing me, had been a little of a kick to my ego.

Girls, without knowing I played ball, would always smile or blush at me.

Attracting women had never been an issue.

But Sadie hadn’t.

She simply looked right through me that night at the new coffee shop on campus. My grin grew larger, prouder on my face at the memory. Without knowing it, Sadie had thrown down a gauntlet and challenged a man who could never say no to one.

One day, the unhinged animal inside of me growled. One day soon, she’ll be mine. Ours. My monster and mine. Forever.
