Chapter 27 What sleeps Beneath
The morning after her dream, Sana woke with a gasp.
Her palm burned.
When she looked down, there was nothing. No wound. No mark. But the heat was real, as if fire had curled up inside her veins.
She looked around.
Hatim was gone.
A scroll lay on his pillow.
> “Council meeting. Return by midmorning. Don’t leave the west wing. Love you.”
She smiled at the last part.
But something in her chest still ached.
---
Down the corridor, she heard voices.
Servants.
Gossiping.
> “I heard the Queen tried to poison her.” “I heard the girl has snake blood—magic hidden in her skin.” “Well, I heard she tricked the prince. No way someone like her wins his heart without spells.”
Sana turned the corner quietly.
They froze.
She didn’t say a word.
Just walked past them with her spine straight and her eyes soft.
But inside… a spark lit.
And the wind around her shifted—just slightly.
---
Meanwhile, in the council hall…
Hatim stood with folded arms as Roshni addressed the court.
> “The kingdom is vulnerable,” she said. “Rumors spread like fire. Our enemies grow bolder.”
Hatim’s eyes narrowed.
> “Then maybe we should stop fueling them from within.”
The room went still.
Roshni smiled tightly.
> “You mean your wife?”
Hatim didn’t flinch.
> “I mean your obsession.”
Gasps.
But Roshni’s fury was silent and cold.
---
Later that afternoon, Sana wandered into the old library—the part no one visited anymore. Dusty. Abandoned.
She sat in the center and opened her journal.
And as she began to write, the flame returned.
This time, in her fingertips.
Letters glowed faintly as she wrote them, golden and soft.
She dropped the pen, heart racing.
> “No… no, not again.”
But then—a soft voice behind her.
> “You’re changing.”
She turned sharply.
It was the Seer.
The one from Roshni’s court.
Wrapped in blue. Smiling like she knew every secret.
> “What do you want?”
“To help,” the Seer said. “Or… to watch you burn. Either would be beautiful.”
---
That evening, Hatim returned—and he knew something was wrong the second he stepped into their room.
Sana sat in silence. Staring at her hand.
> “Tell me what happened.”
She looked up.
> “You said I was normal. That I had no magic.”
“You don’t.”
“I do.”
She held up her palm.
It shimmered—just for a second.
Hatim stepped back, stunned.
> “How long have you known?”
“Since last night,” she whispered. “And I’m scared.”
Hatim dropped to his knees in front of her.
Took her hands gently.
> “Then we face it together. Powers or not—you’re still Sana. Mine.”
She blinked fast. “But what if I lose control?”
He cupped her cheek.
> “Then I’ll be your anchor. Even if the world burns.”

?? Author’s Note:
BABYYY the tension?? The magic awakening?? THE “I’LL BE YOUR ANCHOR” LINE ??? Sana’s powers are finally peeking through, and Roshni’s court is shakingggg.
And Hatim?? Possessive king vibes but make it gentle obsession ??
Let me know what you think her powers are truly connected to ?? Are they celestial? Emotional? Something older?
