Epilogue #2

“I’m looking forward to that. Kane was suspicious of the stranger who showed up out of nowhere with a farcical tale about his wife, but then the DNA proved we’re related.”

“You should write a book about this case, Jesse. It’d be a bestseller.”

“I might consider that at some point. Listen, I want to thank you—and Freddie—for your help. It made the difference.”

“Freddie gets all the credit for a brilliant idea to involve the podcasters.”

“I’ll make sure he hears from me directly.”

“He’d love that. How’s Memphis doing?”

“She’s great. She’s been my rock through all of this.”

“I had a thought about her.”

“What’s that?”

“I remember how you said you two are dealing with a potential issue at work.”

Jesse sighed. “I’m going to have to do something about that before much longer. I doubt we’re fooling anyone at this point.”

“One of my detectives gave notice this week, so I have an opening on my team. Not sure she’d want to give up a federal job for a city job, but I’d be happy to advocate for her if she’s at all interested.”

“Wow, Sam… That’s an amazing idea. Let me run it by her and get back to you next week, if that’s okay.”

“That’s fine. We’ve got time.”

“Thank you for thinking of her.”

“Of course. She’s an impressive young woman and an accomplished LEO. We’d be lucky to have her.”

“We’ll be in touch.”

“Have a safe ride home.”

She’d no sooner ended that call than her phone rang with another, this time from AUSA Charity Miller.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Sam… McDermott is insisting we amend the charges against your brother-in-law to felony assault.”

So, there it is! STATE OF UNREST took me on a wild ride that had so many twists and turns I almost sprained my brain!

I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I loved writing it.

I love being with Sam and Nick and their people for months at a time for each new book and look forward to writing STATE OF MIND to hopefully release at the end of the year. Fingers crossed!
