February 14 (A new post on Daniel’s Instagram page)
How do we define ourselves? By religion, nationality, sexual preference, career, where we live? Does it really matter?
Is there such a thing as a nomadic spirit?
What does ‘home’ mean to a nomad?
How does a nomad find his or her place in the world?
We don’t have all the answers. Our lives are not always rosy but, when we look into each other’s eyes, we see the only stability we want and need, and we know that we contain the world and all its colors. So when we’re offered an adventure, our first response is to smile and ask, “Why not?”
It’s not easy to ask “Why not?” As children, we were so often told “No” to teach us boundaries, the difference between wrong and right, good and bad. But bad things still happened to us when there was no one to protect us, and we were alone with our thoughts – before we learned to ask, “Why not?”
We hit rock bottom, a profound crisis, and then a survival instinct pushed us into the water without a life vest. It’s not something we’ve been taught but deep within us was a desire to start over in a faraway place where no one knew us.
Because that’s how we are, like stars, needing true darkness to find our light.
And when we do ask “Why not?” it’s with a smile. We tried so hard to please everyone, but without a smile. We learned that love, self-love, is what produces that genuine smile.
So ask “Why not ? ” and let yourself fly to the enchanted worlds of your dreams, and smile, from your heart.
