Chapter 8

BIG BOY LESSONS: LATER THAT NIGHT…

Burner Man drove up the street to their enemy’s block, looking for the address.

They were on a mission that couldn't wait any longer.

Every day Dexz left the house, he was out slanging big weight.

He went from selling one kilo to one nigga, to him and Burner Man being the plug.

He supplied Los Angeles, and he also supplied his best friend, Lunden, in New York with Za.

Shit was booming for him, and his name rang bells in the streets.

He and Burner Man had girls driving cross-country, delivering for them and bringing back thousands of dollars.

However, one of their girls never came back from New York with their money.

Dexz and Burner put a hit on the girl and found her right under their nose, and the person who used her as a mule was somebody who owed him money already.

“I can’t believe that bitch ran off with our shit for that nigga,” Burner said, frustrated.

“I told you she was weird, bro. She was too easy,” Dexz stated as he shook his head.

“Then this nigga Finesse had her do the shit.”

“Nah, they were in it together. I told you, man, just gotta stick with the broads we got. Kayla said she would take her place. She’s been dying to be a runner anyway.”

“A’ight, fuck it then. Put her in place.” Dexz pulled long and hard on his blunt.

They pulled across the street from the address. Burner Man killed the engine, and they wasted no time busting into the house. Dexz used his black field Timberlands to knock the door off its hinges.

When they stepped in, the living room was silent, so they started walking through the house. They walked up the stairs with their guns to their sides, checking every room until they got to the end of the hallway. They heard sex sounds coming from behind the door.

“No wonder this nigga didn't hear the door kick in. He in here getting some pussy.”

“I bet he in there fucking that bitch,” Burner said.

Boom!

Dexz kicked in the room door, frightening them shitless. Sure enough, Finesse was in the room fucking their ex-runner.

“Oh my God, Burner!” she shouted.

“Yeah, it’s me, bitch. You thought I wasn’t going to find you?” He grabbed her by her weave and shoved his gun in her mouth.

Dexten grabbed their enemy and pushed him to the ground. He kicked him in the mouth so hard he knocked out his teeth.

“Where the fuck is my dope, nigga?” Dexz grunted and kicked Finesse again in the mouth.

“Nigga, it’s in the basement! Please don’t kill me!” he pleaded.

Boom!

Dexz heard Burner’s gun go off in the woman’s mouth. Then he let her body fall to the floor. “That nigga told us where the dope is. Shoot his ass, and let’s go!”

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Dexz let off three shots in Finesse’s head and ran out of the room with Burner.

They searched the house looking for the basement until they finally found it.

Finesse and their ex-mule had taken ten kilos of cocaine, but they left with more than that.

They stuffed all the money and dope that was in the basement into trash bags and headed for the door.

Dexz and Burner crept out of the house with four bags and blood on their hands.

They didn’t know how much was in there, but they knew it was probably just the amount they were supposed to make on the run they sent the girl on.

After dumping their guns and gloves, they were back on the road.

Half the car ride was silent until Burner’s phone started to ring.

When he looked at it, a huge smile came across his face.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m on my way. How many centimeters is she?” he asked the caller on the phone. “Okay, I’m on my way now.” He hung up.

“Bro, you have to take me to the hospital. I can see what’s in them bags with you later. I’m having my eighth son,” he beamed.

Dexz laughed. “Damn, nigga, your eighth?”

“Yup! I love all them too. Now step on it; she’s ready to push.”

Thirty minutes later, Dexz was dropping Burner off at the hospital.

Pretti had been texting him to make sure he was okay, so he headed home.

It was three in the morning, so he figured he could take the bags to his stash spot the following morning.

He pulled in front of their underground parking structure and waited for the gate to open.

As he was waiting, he saw red and blue lights flashing behind him.

“Fuck... the fuck twelve want with me?” he uttered to himself as he looked through his rearview and watched them get out.

He was slightly irritated they were fucking with him at three in the morning, but he kept his cool.

He had four duffle bags with him, and he knew they’d land him some time in jail. He rolled the window down.

“Good morning, sir. Are you Dexten Kingsley?” the male cop asked as he gazed inside Dexz’s truck.

“Yeah, that’s me. What’s up? I'm just coming from a late-night shift, and I live here,” he said as he watched the cop’s eyes look through the car. He had the bags in his hatchback, so they hadn’t seen them yet.

“Can you step out of the car? We have to place you under arrest for battery,” the officer said, tugging at his locked door.

Dexz smacked his lips and swung the car door open. He knew he was going to jail, and he was mad. He knew why they were there, but he wasn’t going to snitch on himself.

“I ain't batter nobody. You got the wrong man.”

“We have you on surveillance, pistol-whipping a man in a barbershop. Trigga Raynes.”

He frowned. “He violated my best friend!”

While he argued with one cop, the other started searching his truck.

“Sir, I need to see your license so I can run it,” the officer said to an obviously annoyed Dexz.

“What you need to run my shit for? You say you had me on tape. Evidently, you know everything about me already if you know where I stay.” He shot at the cop in his thick New York accent.

“Sir, there’s no need to get hostile. Now give me your license so I can cuff you.”

Before Dexz could reach into his pocket, the other cop came from his hatchback with a sinister grin.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” the officer said, holding up two kilos of cocaine and a stack of money.

“Put your fucking hands behind your back, dope boy. You beat that man over dope, not your friend. Not only are you going for battery, but you’re also going in for these drugs and illegal money.”

Dexz didn't say a word as they handcuffed him. He held his head high and was going to take his charges like a man.

“Oh my God, what are y’all doing to him!” Pretti shouted. She had heard commotion, so she looked out the window. She was up studying and waiting on Dexz. When she looked out her bedroom window to see what was going on, she saw him and the cops.

“Ma’am, you need to go back in the house. None of this concerns you,” the officer said aggressively and slightly pushed her away.

“All of this concerns me. He’s my best friend!”

“Go in the house. I’ll contact you and let you know what’s up. Everything is going to be okay.” Dexz was trying to stay calm because he knew she was scared seeing him in handcuffs.

“No! Why are they taking you, Dexten? You can’t go to jail.

What am I going to do without you?” She cried out.

She looked at all the money and drugs on the front of the truck.

She knew what he did for a living, and she didn't care. Drug money kept them off the streets, so she didn’t judge him for his occupation.

The cop shoved Dexz towards the police car.

“Ma’am, he gets a phone call when he gets booked. I’m sure he will call you,” the officer assured her.

“Noooo, Dexten! Tell them you can’t go!” She whined like a child.

“I can’t tell them nothin’, ma. I’m sorry.” After keeping his head up for so long, he finally dropped it.

Hearing Pretti cry out for him made his heart hurt.

He hated that he had to leave her, knowing he was all she had.

Thoughts of her being left alone in the world haunted him all the way to the station.

He knew he had to put a plan together to make sure she was straight.

He knew he was going to get some time for all the drugs he had.

When he got to the station, he skipped calling Pretti and called Kayla. He knew if he called Pretti, she would spend his time on the phone crying.

“Yo, Kayla, I’m locked up. I need you to do me a favor,” Dexz said as he looked around at all the dopeheads and pimps sitting around waiting to get booked.

“Jail? Nigga, what the fuck did you do?” she asked.

“I got caught up on some shit. But listen, look in my old phone that I left at your house and look for the name Lunden. When you find it, call him on three-way.”

A few minutes later, Kayla had Lunden on the line.

“Yo, my nigga. I got locked up with some shit, and I know they gon’ give me some time for this, bro.”

“Yooo, what the fuck, my nigga? What you need me to do? I got you,” Lunden replied with urgency.

“I need you to look out for my best friend, Pretti, the chick I told you about a few times and sent you a picture of. She ain’t got nobody, bro.

She depends on me. When I find out how much time I’m getting, I need you to take her in.

I’ma move her to New York because when I get out, I’m coming back home to Harlem.

Can you do that for me, my guy?” Dexz asked, sounding like he was begging.

“Yeah, yeah, I got you. Just keep me updated. This shit crazy, bro, but I got you.”

Once Lunden and Dexz finished their conversation, Kayla went into a full rage. She was tired of Dexz and Pretti’s relationship, and she didn’t want any part of it anymore.

“You got me fucked up, Dexz! I’ve been down for you all this time, and the only person you worried about while you’re locked up is Pretti, little dumb ass?

! That bitch ain’t learned how to live on her own yet at nineteen?

This shit is over, don’t fucking call me no more.

I’m done with you, it’s fucking OVER! I hope you fucking get raped in jail. Don’t drop the soap, nigga!”

The line went dead, and Dexz sighed as he walked back to the cell.

He wasn’t even mad Kayla had broken up with him.

He was angry he had to leave Pretti alone.

So much crossed his mind as he sat up all night listening to inmates talk loudly.

Kayla dumping him did sting a little as he sat in his thoughts, but he didn’t expect anything less from her.

He figured as long as Pretti stayed down with him, he could get through his time.

When I get out, I’m marrying that girl, he thought as he lay with his eyes open on the steel bed.
