Chapter 27
DOOMED
Walking out of his condo in a good mood, Dexz was feeling confident about his life. His dope dealing days were finally about to be put behind him, and he was moving on to the corporate world.
For the last five months, he was focused on his son and their future.
He was at his aunt's house every day from morning to sundown, getting to know Ethan. He loved being around his child and found out so much about him. He took him to doctors’ appointments with his aunt and got all the information he needed.
He knew it was going to be a long road, but he had a support system with his family, so he knew everything would be okay.
He walked to his midnight blue AMG Mercedes GT Coupe because he had car options now.
He was heading to Burner’s condo that he shared with one of his baby mommas and a few of his kids.
His true right-hand man was still going to be in the game, but he still wanted in on the car lot business, so Burner was helping Dexz get his last bag.
As he was connecting his phone to his car Bluetooth, it began to ring, and it was Pretti. He hadn't spoken to her in a few days, nor had they had any alone time, so he knew she was probably calling to set something up.
“What's up, ma?”
“Lunden came into my office and watched my surveillance. He saw us fucking back when you first got out. He broke my nose and left me bloody!” Pretti cried out through the phone.
“HE DID WHAT?!” he raged.
“He put his hands on me. I'm on my way to the hospital with my security, but I need you.”
“What hospital? I'm on my way?”
“NYC Health.”
Dexz hung up the phone and left as fast as he could, but before he went to see what was up with Pretti, he went to find Lunden. His blood was boiling, and he was ready to fight. He didn’t care what Lunden had found out; he had no right to put his hands on her.
He pulled up in his neighborhood, and it was still early.
A few of his goons were standing on the corner shooting dice.
He glanced at the crowd and saw none of them were Lunden, so he drove off and headed to his condo.
When he pulled up, he saw Lunden’s car parked out front.
Dexz got out his whip and walked casually to Lunden’s door. He knocked, and the door flew open.
“He not here,” a woman said as soon as she opened the door. It was Bambi.
“Bitch, stop lying. Watch out.” Dexz pushed the door open, and before Bambi could go for the gun that was in her robe pocket, Dexz grabbed her wrist, took it from her pocket, and tucked it into his waistband. He twisted her wrist, causing her to shout as she fell to the floor.
“Lunden, he in here!” she shouted.
Dexz walked through the foyer and met Lunden halfway as he walked to see what was going on.
He locked eyes with Lunden. They were wearing the same mug on their faces, but Dexz didn't come to talk.
He came to fight. He took his fist and punched Lunden so hard in the face that he stumbled as he held his jaw.
“You were fuckin’ my bitch, and you come over here to fight me! Nigga, suck my dick!” Lunden’s deep voice roared as he got himself together.
“So what, nigga? Ain’t nobody tell you to fuck with her in the first place. She always been mine. Why you think I took care of her for so long? Why you think it was so easy for her to fall out of love with you?” Dexz gritted through clenched teeth.
“That ain’t what she told me in the beginning. She said you ain’t even like her!”
Lunden threw a punch at Dexz, and it connected to his lip.
That’s when hell broke loose, and they started boxing.
It had been over twelve years since they fought each other, but it was never as deep as it was in that moment.
They were trying to kill each other. Dexz was getting the best of Lunden because he was sober, and Lunden was drunk.
Dexz punched him in the face again, knocking him to the floor.
Dexz leaned over Lunden’s face and started sending blows to his dome.
“Get off him! You’re killing him!” He heard a girl shout from behind him, and that’s when he felt her yank him.
Dexz turned around, and it wasn’t the girl from the door.
He didn’t care. His reflexes sent his fist right into her face, and he went back to punching Lunden.
Dexz was tired, so he stood up, breathing heavily.
He looked down at Lunden, and his eyes were swollen shut, while he was leaking blood from his whole face.
“Pretti is mine. If you come around her again, I’ma murder you, nigga.” He kicked Lunden and headed for the door while the two girls ran to Lunden’s rescue.
Dexz left the house, furious. He raced down the street, heading to the hospital to make sure his lady was okay.
“He lucky I didn't kill ‘em!” He screeched as he made a right and got on the main street. He slowed down his speed because he knew the cops were probably nearby.
He got stopped at a red light, so he grabbed his phone from the center console to call Burner and tell him what happened.
As the phone rang, he looked up to see if the light had changed, but all he saw was a black van pulling in front of him at a diagonal.
He dropped his phone quickly and tried to back up, but as he tried, another black van pulled behind him.
“Shit,” he uttered under his breath. He already knew what time it was.
Before he could slide under his seat for cover, bullets started flying through all his windows. He felt hot slugs hitting him all over his body. As powerful as the bullets were and the consistency, he knew they were shooting AK’s.
He lay covering his head, hoping the worst didn't happen, and that’s when it did.
He felt a bullet go right through his neck.
He heard the bullets stop and the vans skirt off.
Car alarms were going crazy, and he heard sirens.
He wanted to get up in his driver's seat and take off, but his body was limp.
He heard people screaming for help. He tried to reach for the door handle, but his body started shaking violently.
Dexz had lost consciousness and started seizing.
The bullet to his neck was traveling to his brain.
“Oh my God, I think he’s dead!” he heard someone scream when he finally regained consciousness. He couldn’t move or speak, but his eyes were open. He was going into shock as the woman pulled him out of the car.
“Ma’am, move out of the way! We got this!” he heard an EMT say.
They moved his bloody body onto a stretcher and started cutting his clothes off as they loaded him into the ambulance. Dexz didn’t know who could have done this to him except Lunden. He felt it in his soul that it was him as he lay on the stretcher, bleeding to death.
“He’s starting to seize. We need to get him to the emergency room fast and put him in a medically induced coma. I can’t believe he’s still alive, though!” One of the EMTs said in disbelief.
Dexz blacked out again. He had constant seizures, but he was still holding on. He had so much to live for, and he wasn’t letting a few bullets stop him. He was going to fight for as long as he could...
