Chapter 20
Chapter twenty
Yale
“He said you can’t go home?” Consonance asked, and I nodded.
“And you just accepted it?” After we got back into town, Amethyst brought me back to his house, showered with me, and told me he needed to make some moves with his brother.
I knew he needed to blow off some steam and get his head right, so I didn’t argue with him.
Even though we’d been friends for years and knew how to move around each other in that lane, now we were learning to navigate a new space.
It was tricky, but I had to trust the process.
“What was I going to say?” I laughed as I continued to work. I’d gotten comfortable in Amethyst’s office and couldn’t see myself working from anywhere else any time soon. “No? and have him show out?” I shook my head, then placed the red diamond in its setting. “I don’t think so.”
“Look at you doing what your man wants you to do,” she laughed, and I rolled my eyes. “All he had to do was give you a little dick, and you fell right in line.”
“First off, there is nothing little about his dick,” I said, knowing Consonance was going to fall out. She looked at Amethyst as a brother, so my mentioning his dick was going to drive her crazy.
“Oh, no ma’am,” she groaned, and I smiled. “We cannot ever discuss your sex life.”
“That’s not fair,” I laughed and looked up at the screen to see her shrug. “Consonance, who am I going to tell about all the nasty things he does and says?”
“Nope!” she yelled, covering her ears. “I cannot and will not be a part of any sexual conversation from now until we are long gone and dead.”
“But-”
“Yale Forrester, if you don’t agree, I will hang up and not answer until you do,” she threatened, narrowing her eyes at me. If it were anyone else, I would call their bluff, but this was Consonance, and my friend was serious as hell.
“Fine,” I sighed. “I won’t tell you about all the things we do, plan, or talk about.”
“Thank you.” she nodded. “Now, have you contacted Morning about your divorce?”
“No,” I answered.
“Why not?”
“He’s not a divorce lawyer,” I said. “But I’m pretty sure he knows someone who is. I just haven’t gotten around to calling him.”
“Call him,” she insisted, and I nodded. “I’m serious, Yale. Call him and get the ball rolling, because I doubt Amethyst will allow you to be married to Grant and still be with him. I’m waiting for you to say that he’s shown out.”
“He’s going to behave.”
“Now we are lying to each other,” she laughed. “Wow.”
“Consonance-”
“Amethyst Stone is not going to behave, we both know it,” she said, shaking her head. “He’s going to show the fuck out if he already hasn’t.” She pointed to the screen. “Why are you in denial about that fact?”
My text notification popped up on my screen, and I swiped it to see a message from Grant. He’s been calling me nonstop for the last hour, but I didn’t answer the phone.
Grant: Where are you? I’ve been calling. It’s important!
Me: …
Grant: The church is on fire!
“Oh shit,” I mumbled. I picked up the TV remote and turned it on. The first thing I saw was the breaking news of Grant’s father’s church on the screen, engulfed in flames.
“What’s wrong?” Consonance asked.
“The Kilmore church is on fire,” I answered as I turned up the volume. “Turn on your TV.”
“To what station?”
“I don’t think it matters,” I said as I watched.
The news reporter who was on site stood far enough away that he wasn’t in danger, but was still close enough to the action.
The camera panned to give a full shot of the destruction, and the second I saw the Stone brothers sitting in the background, my heart dropped into my ass.
“Is that who I think it is?”
“It is,” I answered with a nod. “It’s him.” Amethyst stood behind the reporter with a smile on his face that didn’t reach his eyes. “His crazy ass just publicly declared war.”
“And you said he wasn’t going to show out,” she laughed. “You were so damn wrong.”
A few hours later, Amethyst walked into the house. He dropped his keys on the table next to the front door, kicked off his shoes, and then walked into the living room. When he noticed me on the couch, he smiled, then pulled me from my spot, sat down, and pulled me into his lap.
“Why are you up?” He nuzzled the side of my neck, then kissed it.
“I was waiting on you,” I answered as I closed my eyes. “I turned my ringer off on my phone, but didn’t want to fall asleep until you were home.”
“Why did you turn your ringer off?”
“Grant keeps calling,” I answered, and he grunted. “His father is calling a family meeting because of the church.”
“Luther is calling a family meeting?” he asked, and I nodded. “I doubt it, but you can answer and tell that nigga to stop calling, cuz you’re with your family.”
“I don’t want to answer,” I said, shaking my head.
“Sunshine, answer for that nigga or I will,” he said, then kissed my neck again.
“I’m not worried about what he has to say,” I sighed. “I do need to go home, though.”
“You are home.”
“You know what I mean,” I sighed and opened my eyes. “I need to go home and grab something.”
“Like?” He reared back to look at me. His eyes were low like he was tired, and I ran my thumb over his eyebrows. “Because ain’t shit there I can’t replace.”
“I have a few pictures of my mama that I want,” I said, and he nodded. “I want to go get them while his attention is on this church stuff.”
“You can walk in that bitch any time you want,” he replied with a twisted expression. “This church shit is going to be the least of his worries.”
“What do you have planned, Amethyst?”
“Nothing you gotta worry about, Sunshine,” he said, shaking his head. “Now tell me what else you want from that house?”
“Just the pictures,” I yawned. “That’s all I want because everything can be replaced.”
“Alright,” he said, nodding. “We will go get them for you tomorrow.”
“Okay,” I agreed. “We can go tomorrow.”
**
“Am!” I called out from the bathroom the next morning. I needed to go to my office today to meet with a new client and was almost running late. My hair wasn’t doing what I needed it to, and I was two seconds from calling Corinthians DeCorte to make an appointment to cut it off. “Am!”
“Yeah, Sunshine.” He stepped into the bathroom as he tucked his top into his scrubs. He looked so damn good that I had to do a double-take. I freely took him in, making sure to stop at his pelvis to make sure that his dick print wasn’t visible. “What do you need, baby?”
“My hair won’t go into a bun,” I whined and stuck my bottom lip out. “Fix it.” I held out the brush and ponytail holder to him and waited.
“Man, you fuckin’ spoiled,” he chuckled as he took the brush and ponytail holder and stepped behind me.
“So,” I mumbled, and he smacked me on my ass. “Ouch.”
“That shit didn’t hurt,” he said as he rubbed the sting away. “Now come on, so I can fix your hair.”
While we were in college, Amethyst would play in my hair while we studied.
I jokingly told him that if he was going to take my ponytail down, he had to learn to fix it when he was finished.
Amethyst took it as a challenge and not only learned how to fix it, but also the basics of taking down braids and doing cornrows.
He’d only recently mastered a bun, which was what I needed him to do now.
“Thank you,” I said as I watched him through the mirror.
Amethyst looked over my head and smirked.
“I got you for life, Sunshine,” he said, then turned his attention back to fixing my hair.
I stood still, watching him as he worked, and could only smile.
He was without a doubt one of those men who lived by the motto ‘if he wanted to, he would’ because there was nothing that he wanted to do that he didn’t.
Death would be the thing that would keep him away, and at times, I wasn’t even sure that would be enough.
“Alright,” Amethyst announced as he turned me around to get a better look. “You set.”
I turned around, checked his work, and nodded.
I couldn’t help but admit that my hair looked good.
Quickly, I faced him, kissed him, then stepped back before he could make the kiss into something more.
“Again, thank you. Now let’s go. I need to go to the office.
” Our physical touch had moved from friendly to intimate, without a second thought from me. It felt natural and never awkward.
“Give me another kiss,” he said, stepping toward me. I put my hand on his chest and shook my head. “Come on, Sunshine.”
“I need to get to the office,” I laughed as I moved my hand from his chest to his face and wiped my lipstick from his bottom lip. “And you need to get to the hospital. We don’t have time for that.”
“I’ma be quick,” he said, pulling me to him.
“Quick?” I lifted my brow in question. “You don’t know what the word means.” I could feel his dick starting to get hard against my stomach, and I shook my head. “Amethyst Stone. We do not have time for that.”
“Sunshine,” he sighed. “He misses you. I can’t control that shit, baby.
” He licked his lips and gave me a lopsided grin.
“He needs a hug, is all.” He backed me up until my butt hit the counter, then he set me on it and stepped between my legs.
My skirt rose up my thighs, and Amethyst used that to his advantage and reached between my legs. “Baby?”
“Hmmm?” I moaned as he pushed two fingers into my pussy.
“You ain’t got no panties on, baby?” he questioned as he nuzzled my neck with his nose.
“I didn’t want panty lines in this skirt,” I answered, then bit into my bottom lip. “Shit!”
“You just got my girl out here like this, not covered up. She could catch a cold,” Amethyst said as he used his free hand to pull the drawstrings of his scrubs and push them down.
His dick sprang out and smacked my thigh.
He was warm and strong. “Let me take her temp.” He pulled his hand from my pussy, hooked my legs in the bend of his arm, and pushed into me.
