Chapter 52 #2
“I think your daughter wants to play with her siblings again,” I suggested and pulled him closer to me by the front of his shirt. “Can you make that happen?” Our lips grazed over each other, and I smiled. “I promise to be a good girl afterwards.”
“You’re lying,” he chuckled and shook his head. “But yeah, I’ll definitely make that happen. After we go to Pyrite’s and check on them damn birds.”
“It’s your turn to check on the birds?” I asked, laughing, and Amethyst nodded.
“Citrine refuses to go back over there after Starburst tried to attack him,” Amethyst grinned. “So it’s on us to go over there.”
“Okay,” I said, then my eyes dropped back to his lips. “We can do that. But I need a kiss first.”
“Oh, that was happening even if you said no,” he said, then kissed me.
I loved the feel of his lips and grabbed the front of his shirt to pull him closer.
His tongue pushed into my mouth, and I gladly let him control the tempo of the kiss.
He pulled back only to kiss my lips softly two more times. “Damn, I needed that.”
“Me too,” I said as I wiped my lip gloss from his bottom lip.
Amethyst rested his forehead against mine and smiled. “Hi, Sunshine.”
“Hi, Amethyst,” I replied. “You ready to go, baby?”
“Yeah, let’s go check on my brother and his fiancée’s attack Parrots.” He stood, stepped back, and then put his hand out for me to take. I put my hand in his, and he helped me up. “Ay, you look pretty as fuck.”
“I’m wearing a sports bra and your boxer briefs.” I looked down at my clothes, then up at him.
“I know, but I love seeing you in my clothes,” he said, then kissed me again. “Go put on some ball shorts so we can go.” He smacked my ass then licked his lips.
“Keep looking at me like that, and those damn attack Parrots, as you call them, won’t eat for a few more hours,” I laughed as I walked away, shaking my head.
I threw on a pair of shorts, some Crocs, grabbed my purse, and made my way to the garage to find Amethyst waiting. He helped me into the car, started it, then drove out of the garage, careful not to pull off until after the door closed.
“Alright, so Pyrite talked to Fable about this earlier, and I need to talk to you about it too,” Amethyst said as he drove. He picked up our intertwined hands, kissed the back of my hand, and then rested them in his lap.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s about Diara,” he said, and I nodded.
“Okay.”
“We found out that Javien Jr. is Destyn’s father,” he replied, and my face twisted in confusion. “He was the one who raped her and posted the video to the dark web.”
“How do you know?”
“He told Pyrite and Xoey,” Amethyst said, shaking his head. I watched him as he drove and could see the veins bulging in his neck. “Apparently, before the engagement party, he confessed to them some shit. The one he bragged about the most was being Destyn’s daddy.”
“Does Diara know?”
“Nah,” he denied, shaking his head. “Pyrite and Xoey held the information close to the vest while Pyrite put some shit in motion.”
“Like?”
“He had Morning looking into the claims and was going to tell us about it at the party, but then everything went left.”
“So, he’s not one hundred percent certain that Javien Jr. is Destyn’s father? He could’ve just been saying shit.”
“I was thinking the same thing, but Pyrite got some hair from Fable’s brush and had it tested. The DNA results came back saying she was his aunt.”
“Shit,” I said, shaking my head. “He’s been here for the last year playing for Pyrite and close to Diara.”
“Right,” he said, nodding. “Watching her, nigga even held Destyn a few times from what I can remember. He’s sick as fuck.”
“So, what’s the next step?” I asked, feeling bad for Diara, Destyn, and Fable.
I knew that Fable and Diara had forged a friendship over the last few months.
There was no telling if they’d be able to move past this.
Yes, everything happened before Fable was in the picture, but I don’t know if Diara would be able to look at her friend knowing that she was also her rapist’s sister.
“I don’t know,” he answered. “Fable didn’t take it well, and no one has told Diara yet. She’s focused on Destyn getting better. This might be too much for her right now.”
“What about Xoey? Where does this leave her?” Xoey was close to both Diara and Fable, and she was always Destyn’s Godmother.
“I don’t know, baby,” he replied. “Right now, we are focused on finding Tank and Robert. We talked to Xia and Xayne earlier, and they said leave the Xoey situation to them.”
“Are y’all?” I asked. I knew the Stone brothers well enough to know they weren’t just going to sit on the sidelines and wait.
“Kind of,” he chuckled. “Gift said let him handle it.”
“Gift handling Xoey’s situation, Morning handling Diara’s, and Four handling Corinthians?” I sighed and shook my head. “Something is telling me that this is going to be bloody as hell.”
“It probably is,” he said. I looked out the window and watched the traffic pass us. “Everyone is going to be on edge and trigger-happy until we get the answers we are looking for.”
“I know,” I said, nodding. “I want you to be careful, Amethyst.”
“I’m careful every day.” He lifted my hand and kissed the back of it again.
“When I walk out of the house, I make sure my head is on swivel, and my gun is ready.” He put my hand in his lap, then let it go and palmed my stomach.
“I have too much to live for. Our daughter.” He moved his hand and pinched my chin.
“You.” He put his hand in my lap and squeezed my thigh.
“I’m not going to say it’s going to be easy because it’s not, but trust me when I say I’m not about to do shit to jeopardize our family.
” He pulled into Pyrite’s driveway and stopped in front of the garage.
While he put in the code to open the garage, I sat there thinking. “Tell me what’s on your mind.”
“We had eight years stolen from us,” I said, and he lifted his brow.
“There is no doubt in my mind that we were destined to be together, but we still had time stolen from us. The older generation did something in the past that’s now coming back to bite us in the ass.
Each of us, and it’s not fair because we don’t even know what happened. All we know is it affects us.”
Amethyst reversed his car into the garage and then lowered the door.
“I know and trust me when I say we are looking into it. We are going to talk to Ex tomorrow about Tank and let him know we found him. Then we are going to the older generation for a sit-down talk. We need the full story, from every perspective and not just bits and pieces. They aren’t going to like it, but it’s the only way we are going to get the answers we need. ”
“Okay,” I said, nodding.
“Shit is going to be harder before it gets easier, but know that I got you and our baby. You good with that?”
“Do I have a choice?” I rested my head against the headrest and watched him. Amethyst licked his lips, then smirked.
“Nah,” he answered with a laugh. “If you tried to leave me, I’d come find your ass and drag you back home.”
“And you won’t send me away again either.” I narrowed my eyes and pointed at him.
Amethyst chuckled and shook his head. “I’m serious, Amethyst, do not send me away again. I get that you thought you were doing the right thing then, but do not do it again. I won’t forgive you.”
He leaned across the center console and tried to kiss me, but I turned my face. He chuckled, gently grabbed my chin, and turned my face back to him. “I hear you.” He kissed me, but I didn’t kiss him back. “Oh, it’s like that? You won't kiss me now?”
“Promise me that you won’t get the asinine idea ever again,” I said, looking at him. I didn’t want them to, but my eyes watered at the thought of being sent away.
Amethyst cupped my cheek and used his thumb to wipe away my tears.
“I promise you I’ll never send you away again.
” He kissed me when he pulled back. I bit into his bottom lip and pulled at it before letting it go.
“I swear I love the fuck out of you, Sunshine. I’ma spend the rest of our lives reminding you that I’m the nigga for you. ”
“I love you too.”
He quickly kissed me, then let my face go. “Alright, let me go feed these damn birds, and then we can go grab something to eat on the way home.”
“Okay.”
He got out of the car and went into the house. Using my phone, I worked on my next design when his phone rang. I tapped the dashboard screen.
“He’s in the house feeding Starburst and Watermelon now,” I said before Pyrite could say anything.
“I know, I got the alert,” Pyrite said. He sounded off, which made me look at the dashboard. “I um, I need to talk to him about something.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Um, it’s Yeti,” Pyrite cleared his throat. “He died a few minutes ago.”
“We are on the way,” I said, unfastening my seatbelt. “I’m going to get Amethyst, and we are on the way.”
“Alright,” Pyrite said, then hung up.
I got out of the car, not bothering to close the door, and headed to the door connecting the garage to the mudroom. Just when I put my hand on the door handle, Amethyst opened the door.
“You gotta pee?” he laughed.
“We need to go.” I took his hand in mine and pulled him out of the house.
“Damn, alright.” He followed me but stopped short when we reached the passenger door. “What you leave the door open for?”
“Get in, Amethyst,” I said, letting his hand go and pushing him towards the car.
“Nah, Sunshine.” He grabbed my wrist and shook his head. “Tell me what’s going on?”
“I’ll tell you once we are in the car,” I sighed. He looked as if he was about to object, and I shook my head. “Amethyst, I’m not asking you, I’m telling you. Get in the car.” He looked back at the car, then at me. I could see the wheels in his head start to turn. “Get in.”
“Alright.” He let me go, got in, and closed the door.
I quickly rounded the car, got in, adjusted the driver’s seat to accommodate my height and belly.
Amethyst entered the code to open the garage door, and when it was high enough not to damage his car, I hit the gas. “Alright, tell me what’s going on?”
I licked my lips and shook my head, not ready to tell him yet. Yeti and Amethyst were close, and I knew telling him that he was gone would break his heart. When I got to a red light, Amethyst reached over and put the car in park.
“Amethyst--”
“What happened?” he asked, shaking his head. He turned the car off and grabbed my chin to make me look at him. “Start talking, Sunshine.”
“Pyrite called,” I said, then glanced over at the dashboard. “He um, called and said…”
“What did he say?” He looked panicked. “Is Yamari alright?” He let go of my face and went to grab his phone, but I stopped him.
“It’s not Yamari,” I said, shaking my head. “She’s okay.”
“Then what did Pyrite say that has you driving?” he questioned me.
“If it’s not Yamari, then who? Four had a setback?
Destyn?” I shook my head. “Yeti? That nigga is awake?” He smiled, and my heart broke for him.
“That’s why you’re driving because you know I’d be excited my boy was up?
” He leaned against the console and kissed me.
“Man, get your fine ass out of the car, I can drive us.” He pulled back, and I grabbed his face, resting my forehead against his.
“He didn’t wake up, baby,” I said softly. I felt his breath hitch. “Pyrite called while you were in the house and said he didn’t make it. He died a few minutes before he called.”
“Nah, Sunshine, nah baby, you heard wrong.” He moved back but didn’t try to pull his face from my grip. His eyes searched mine as if he could change my words. “Nah, baby.”
“I’m so sorry,” I said, wiping the tears that fell from his eyes. “I’m so damn sorry.” I kissed him, then let him go. Amethyst sat in the passenger seat, looking forward. He never wiped the tears that fell from his eyes. I started the car back up, put it in drive, and headed to the hospital.
