Chapter Twenty-Two

Scarlett

Without the window to occupy my attention, I’m stuck inside this small but fancy space with two of my idols basically close enough to reach out and touch, and it’s excruciatingly difficult not to think about what we could be doing, if only this was one of my sexy fantasies.

Riley’s big muscles stand out more than the chair he’s in. The stare he gave me a second ago was sultry and suspicious at the same time. Oh, he liked what he was seeing, but I’m betting he follows Xane’s lead when it comes to the press, so he probably hates that I’m here with them.

Doesn’t matter.

He would do whatever I asked if I hit on him.

I know women are his main vice. He never turns a hot one down.

That bothers me more than it should, now that I’m thinking about it, and I don’t know why.

I know what rockstars are like, and I’m no angel, either.

Maybe it’s because I’m trying to be Sapphire here.

She’d call him a womanizer, and she wouldn’t be wrong.

Maybe thinking like my sister will make it easier to get through this whole thing.

She would probably kind of like Trick. Not his hair, or his tattoos, I guess, but the way he dresses and how soft spoken he is. He’s all polite and kind of quiet.

Which is why it’s not a shock when I realize he’s definitely thinking about sex.

He’s feeling lusty, and there’s nothing muddying his attraction.

It’s always the quiet ones.

Bold and brash is fine if that’s what you’re into, but quiet almost always leads to surprising kinks and boundless enthusiasm.

He’s been staring since I sat down, and it’s making me feel like a teenager all over again.

If this was any other guy and it was any other day, it would be easy to strike up a conversation.

And I might flirt a little if he seemed like my type.

Or I would walk away if he was a creep.

There’s so much different about this situation that I don’t know how to deal with any of it.

These are the only men on the planet that I want more than anything else, and I can’t have them.

Because I’m supposed to be my sister, and she’s supposed to be here for work.

It doesn’t matter that I would have given anything to get the chance to talk to these guys.

I’m here to help Saph, and I’m determined to do that.

To make up for her shitty ex-boyfriend, and all the times I’ve messed up our swaps in the past, I have to do this for Saph. Getting her the promotion she deserves will be worth it.

Even if at the end of all of this, I’m going back home to start over with my music career.

I’ll figure that shit out later.

I open Saph’s purse and take out her notebook and a pen.

Thinking about the men I’m with is only going to drive me crazy.

I can work on some lyrics while I’m sitting around.

If nothing else, the chaotic energy in the cabin is giving me the urge to write.

I may as well use the inspiration while I have it.
