Chapter Eighty-Six
Scarlett
Kian moves to the far side of the bed, against the wall of the cabin, while I take Trick by the hand and lead him onto the other side. There’s no getting under the sheets in this heat, and the silky fabric feels cool against my skin when I lay down in the middle of the bed.
When I turn onto my side to face Trick, Kian moves in close behind me, one arm going around my middle, while his lips pepper kisses over my right shoulder.
Trick smiles back at me, looking more relaxed than he has all night.
I kinda liked it when he was a little feral, but this feels more like the real Trick, and I’m already fully into his sweet gentlemanly side.
I reach out and brush a few long strands of his red hair back from his left eye.
“How did I ever get this lucky?” I ask him, shaking my head lightly against the silky pillow.
“That would be my doing,” Kian is quick to remind me.
Trick’s smile turns wry. “You’re gonna hold that over me forever, aren’t you?”
“Forgive me if I want to gloat about finding a way to bring our gorgeous mate into our lives.”
“You did good,” I tell Ki, turning my head enough to let him lean over and kiss me on the lips.
“Yeah,” Trick says with a sigh. “No one can deny that.”
I break the kiss and turn back to Trick.
“I’m sure the Fates would have found some way to bring us together eventually if you hadn’t done that,” I start. “But I’m glad you helped them along.”
“Me too,” Trick says, entwining his hand in mine.
He moves in closer, and kisses me softly, taking his time.
I let him set the pace, aware that he’s never done this before and not sure how to handle that information. He’s slightly older than I am, and he must have had so many chances to be with women. Not just any women, either. A-listers, models, singers, actresses.
The list goes on. He could have been with anyone he wanted.
But he didn’t want any of them.
It’s so hard to process that.
Especially since now he wants me, so badly that he bit his own hand when he was trying to ignore the impulse to mark me.
When he breaks the kiss, I know it’s because he’s ready to claim me.
“You’ve really never done this before?” I ask quietly.
He sighs softly. “I’ve never had sex before. I never had a girlfriend or a fling or whatever. Before I saw you, I was never attracted to anyone. You’re the only person I’ve ever wanted to be with. I think that was for a reason.”
“You were never attracted to anyone?”
It’s an honest confession, and it stuns me to my core.
“Not once, until you,” he responds. “It’s how I knew Kian was right about you being our true mate. I felt it the second I saw you. I knew then that this was why I was never interested in anyone else. I was waiting for my true mate.”
“I wish I could say the same,” I admit.
“That doesn’t matter. We’ve found each other now.”
He’s right. The past is firmly behind us.
What we’re doing tonight is carving out a new future.
Together.
I kiss him back, and he pulls me closer.
